    "Cotton Candy" -- what a perfect comparison for compost!

    Great video! I’m in SA & got a back to Eden going. 3 years in. Rn I’m trying to grow an abundant flower garden. If you got any suggestions or you’re in the area give me a holler!

      Awesome. Do you grow any veggies or fruit, or just flowers?

      @@MyTexasYard I am trying a few squashes this season but the Squash Vine Bore usually defeats my efforts. My winter garden is all kinds of salad stuff.

      @@TheCarpentersApprentice I have good luck with butternut squash. Any squash that vines will be stronger against the SVB.

    I'm out here in Dripping Springs and there is practically no soil! its caliche and limestone--rocks.

      Just start layering. Pile the mulch high, build compost piles, and build that soil. It may take a couple years to really get going, but it is so good once nature kicks in.

    What’s the story on the Louisiana BTE garden comparison? Came here from your first year video :)

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh nice! The BTE garden in LA was at my parents house. My mom did not keep it up so it kinda faded away.

    Do you do chop and drop in your garden? I was doing a three bin compost system, but age is making it hard to turn.

    • @MyTexasYard

      I do chop and drop some. It really depends on the plant and what I want to do with the space I just cleared. Okra and sunflower stalks I burn for firewood.
      Any soft leafy parts I pretty much just drop.

    Which fruits and vegetables are in season right now?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greens like kale, lettuce, Swiss Chard. And root vegetables like carrots, beats, and radishes are all starting to produce.

      @@MyTexasYard thank you! What about fruit?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is not much fruits growing right now. The best thing to do for fruit right now is prep for spring.
      If you can find strawberry plants, now is a good time to put them in the ground.
      But they won’t fruit until spring.

      @@MyTexasYard so, it isn’t possible to eat any fruit during this time?

    • @MyTexasYard
      @MyTexasYard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There may be a few trees that are producing right now, figs and persimmons are fall crops. But most fruit is not a winter crop.

    Joel who? I'm not into tilling but I don't believe 100 years per till for a minute. I'd like to read some science on that.

    • @MyTexasYard

      Look up Polyfacefarms.com
      I know nature can recover from damage much quicker than most "scientist" believe, but I also know that some things take a lot of time to mature. Just look at a 100 year old forest vs a 20 year old forest. Weather it's 100 years to recover or 5 years to recover, the point is the same. I have not seen the science to back his claim, so I will not claim it as fact. I'm always open to learn.
