    When I was a young man I was let go from a dealership, the service manager told me i could not make it as a dealership mechanic because i did not have enough larceny in my heart! I had to go home and look that word up in the dictionary my parents kept in the house. I was not quite 19 years old and i left there and joined the military. When i got home a few years later, a little older and a lot wiser, i sought a job with a trucking company where i learned the basics i needed to make it as a fleet mechanic on heavy trucks. Never missed working at a stealership. Every time i have had to deal with one i always get cheated, always go away disappointed. Some things never seen to change.

      I read everything people send that regarding experiences. I love a story through someone else with a moral behind it. Thanks

      @@partsshooter Forgot to say it was over fifty years ago that happened to me, at a new car dealership. Service manager said i had to learn to bill for things it might need even though i had fixed it without doing those things. Plymouth dealer, slant sixes were notorious for not ever having had their mechanical valves adjusted; they were not hydraulic lifters and had to be adjusted occasionally. Learned that quickly, but he wanted me to then charge for various other things i might have done first. Said i would never make it in the dealer mechanic business. Retired now, dealers still have not changed.

    I think I would give her the old axle have her take it to the 'dealership' and give them an option, 1) give back her money or 2) call the head office of Dodge and the Better Buisness Bureau. The dealership was painly and simply trying to rip her off, shady and illegal. Kudo's to you for fixing it right and saving her I would think about $8,500.

      This is small fish considering this happens way too often. Most people simply bend over and take it. If everyone complained, maybe they would listen. The downside is that it could also impact honest mechanics indirectly.

      @@moshet842 I agree. its the honest guys that get hurt the most from this kind of crap. I couldn't sleep at night if I ripped off tried to rip people off.

    The fact that they would condemn a transmission without fixing that axle first is straight up lying.

  • @bbay1977
    @bbay1977 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    😢 I bet that they quoted her 9k for the new transmission thinking she would just trade it in and get a new one. Then they would have just swapped out the CV axle and put it on the lot as a used car or they would have ran it through a auction. Would have been a huge win for them if ahe would have traded it in cause they wouldnt have gave her much for it since they said " it needed a transmission" when it really didn't.

      When they quote you such a price, it means one of two things:
      1. They don't want to work on your car.
      2. They want you to trade it in and get a new one.

    $9000 to replace the trans is still way too high anyway. I just had the engine in my dodge work truck (5.7 4x4 1500) and it was less than $9000 at the dealership.

      @rccap100 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @partsshooter of course we have to get that price comparison in , lol. I know you as a honest mechanic wouldn't have charged that lady close to $9000 if you had to do it for her but it just surprises me how dealership don't have standard pricing between same model dealers.

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rccap100 you are asking one of those questions like, "If you could rob a bank and nobody knew, would you do it?"
      I'm 85 percent honest🤔. I got stories where honesty have their consequences. But i do agree that charging 9k was definitely wrong!
      Dealerships have a different moral obligation due to their status, which come with responsibility. Unfortunately, this guy tried to take advantage.
      WITH GREAT POWER, COME GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. People believe them too often, which is understandable due to their abilities and technologies. But that's the people that run it level of enthusiasm, and this doesn't translate down to employees due likely to their lack thereof. "They didn't create the company. they're just a part of the company." So I have lower expectation in their moral obligation upholding company reputation.
      Basically I expect them to do this 🫣
