  • Let's talk about providing toys for our pet parrots. Are they just overpriced things we are talked into buying or do our birds actually need them?

    I love your toy line... my babies love them too. One thing that annoys me is that my conure immediately goes for the hanging cord and the toy immediately goes to the bottom of the cage! Mr. Mischief.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE your Tiny Toys. Our rescue GCC wasn’t engaging much with anything in his cage until we switched out to your toy line and utilized your training tips. The variety of textures and materials offered showed us what he liked and engaged with most (palm leaf, sola, balsa, jute, cardboard and banana leaf). Yes, his cage bottom is much messier than it used to be but he’s a much happier & content little dude! Shipping to Canada was expensive but worth it - maybe someday you can offer a Canadian distributor. 😉

    A while back, I had tied a toy to the cage bars with twine. It looked safe enough. I came back shortly after to find my bird's head loosely caught in the loop of the twine. He had undone the knot enough to slip his head through and, well, I will never do that again.

    In my local pet store, there was only one toy made from natural materials, but it also had a bell on it, so I just removed the bell. I have found that sometimes, the toy selection for hamsters, rabbits, and chinchillas are more suitable and affordable, but check what they are made off.
    I have still recently placed an order for a mixture of 16 Bird Tricks Toy.

      I used to have rabbits and yes, they make balls and wreaths of twisted vines for bunnies to nibble and toss. They’re edible…for rabbits, and I would extrapolate for birds too.

    I recently found out that the metal wire used in boings contains heavy metals and you can test them using a lead testing kit and when I checked my sisal ones they tested positive for lead😢 also the bolts and washers on some perches contains it too! It’s extremely scary so many toys contain dangerous things 😢it is so sad that we as bird parents have to question and analyse bird toys to try keep our babies safe😢 not fair that a bird toy isn’t suitable for a bird!!! I bought some bird tricks toys, love how there’s no metal in it just all safe and fun for my babies to shred thank you so much for raising awareness on the dangers👏🏼

    The most important things when providing toys for your birds are the materials, which should be suitable for your birds beak (I wouldn't give my budgie a hard wood toy) and the variety of materials. I walk around the park near my house (where trees aren't treated with dangerous chemicals) and take some cork, palm leaves and cork, olive tree leaves, pebbles for foraging trays... And at home I reuse carboard from the toilet paper rolls (the raw ones that haven't been tinted) and coconut. However there are some interesting materials and those are the ones I buy. This way I am saving a huge lot of money

    I got the small toy set and my two budgies (both between 6 months and a year old) are loving destroying them. :D They destroy most of the toys within 2-3 days of me giving them to them, which is exactly what I want to see!

    The pear shape clips are not the worst. The one you shows has screw mechanism. I honestly have no idea how cockatiels managed to get injured with it, maybe it wasn't closed or it was bad quality? They seem to close really tight.
    I thought you are gonna tell about others, the ones that look sort of like a paperclip, without any protection of closing mechanism, it's just "open ends" (I see it in 99%of a time in toys)
    But good to know lear shape seems to be able unlock wkth time itself and more risky than the shape you use

    • @Thebeetlemangr
      @Thebeetlemangr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me they seem to vary a lot, I've had some that would close so tight I had to use pliers to open them and then I've had some that would just randomly open and one that somehow got it's screwy bit removed
      Honestly I think the cockatiel was most likely an accident, the bird probably lost it's balance and tried to grab the first thing available to hold itself and the clip happened to be open so....that happened l.
      I really love the wooden hooks that rabbit and hamster toys tend to have, no risk of injury and a fun leftover once they go through the rest of the toy

    • @silverbloodwolf98
      @silverbloodwolf98 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      oh, you mean like wide curly hook with no sharp edges? I have one bird toys with one, but it's plastic. The toy is gone for years, but I use this hook for new toys. A wooden one sounds like a lot of fun, indeed@@Thebeetlemangr

    I have a question for anyone who knows. I have a 17 year old Yellow Naped Amazon. I got her when she was 3 months old, so we would bond. She was already singing and talking at about 7 months old. My Aunt asked if she could take my bird with her for a couple of weeks. I eventually agreed to it. She ended up keeping my bird for about 4 year and refused to give her back. Finally I offered to pay her to get my own bird back. So I did get her back but now she's terrified of big wooden toys. Usually she'll lean way back on her perch or move to another one. She loves to eat wood and I know this because when I was in the hospital, my Son was bird sitting and she chewed the heck outta my night stand. How can I help reintroduce toys to her?? P.S. The only kind of toys she likes are toys meant for much smaller birds, like a Cockatiel. Thank you very much.

    Just wondering if forage trays are okay to use? You mentioned trays in the video relating to nesting behaviour. Also not sure whether the materials could be nesty (crinkle paper). My cockatiel loves his to break the toys and find dried flowers to chew on.

    sooooooooooooo sorry about the very unrelated question but I upgraded my birds cage and the bar spacing wasn't written in the description and I couldn't see it any were anyway we got the cage the bar spacing is 3CM and my pineapple green cheek conure can get OUT and I'm scared he'll get hurt/stuck I can't send it back I've tried putting bird aviary wire on most parts but some parts I can't PLAECE HELP (:

      @BirdTricks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know that cages are a big investment but I don't think it is worth the risk with unproper bar spacing. I would recommend selling this cage and starting over with one that is safe for your bird. Here is a blog post about selecting the right cage for your bird. birdtricksstore.com/blogs/birdtricks-blog/selecting-the-right-cage-for-your-bird?_pos=9&_sid=d3f00e02a&_ss=r

      Have you tried to play with the toy in front of him / her? I took toys to our kitchen table & played with them in front of our rescue parrot. It took a few sessions, but now he's playing, both outside and inside his cage. Just a tip.

    What kind of bird is the red one

    • @joebean3615
      @joebean3615 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Galah
      From Australia
      (Americans call them rose breasted cockatoos)
      Just incase this is where you were going
      Don’t buy a bird thinking that you’ll get a Bondi (the Galah in the video) or a really nicely behaved one
      (This is the same for every thing animals, clothes ect)
      also I know people who have bird/s and love them but feel guilty all the time because, well you know birds aren’t supposed to be in captivity just make sure and think about it a lot (realistically) and watch videos on the bad parts of owning birds (nothing wrong with chickens if you can look after them though)
