@@ABitMoreJordan Yeah that's a shame. I liked 3 just as much as the first two and thought it made a good transition to being fully 3D. Suikoden is one of the most brilliant games ever. I play it regularly because it always gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. It is (compared to other RPGs) incredibly short. It feels really "complete" despite its short play time and having no side content. I really look forward to the remaster, that Konami unfortunately delayed... damn them making me wait longer.
Me and my friend originally played this before internet and guides and never knew pahn could survive. It felt like a scripted death because how powerful Teo was.
Lol, I didn't have anything like that either and I always buffed him up until I could kick Teo's ass! And learning how to respond to what he says also helped.
The reasons I prefer 1 are simple. The streaming music with live instruments sounds fantastic, and the visuals are more reminiscent of watercolor paintings whereas 2 has a more comic-like apperance with realistic backgrounds. They both look excellent but 1 just has a more idyllic appearance IMO. Otherwise they're pretty similar in terms of gameplay (decent) and plot (as good as it gets)
Suikoden 1 is still my favourite too im with you. I remember it being really average reviewed in playstation magazine like a 5 or 6 and i found it at my local market for 5 pounds and just absolutely fell in love with it. Suikoden 2 is better in almost every way, i can see it but i still prefer 1. Love the buildup to confronting your dad its just great.
I was expecting 5 hours... less than 2 hours retrospective is plenty. Now I need to play. Also I also remember Konami for their hard slapping music games.
I totally agree, everyone tend to diss the 1st game because they are obsessed with 2. I personally played 1 first and to this day I still prefer it to 2. Suikoden 2 is a polished game but I didn't like the story and characters as much as the first one. I prefer the music in 1, I prefer the war mini game.
I have to agree but I also understand why it's not loved as much. Something I will stand my ground on though is 1's war mini game is far more enjoyable 😃
It's here! Looking forward to seeing tons more Jordan! Edit: 🐒 Man, I only ever played this one once on PS1, borrowed from a friend, but it was definitely a fun ride. 32:40 Oh, if you think the "Heroes" in this Japanese Adaptation are Morally Questionable, you should watch some of Cool History Bros' 2-Hour Summary of the Original Shuihu Zhuan (lit. "Water-Margin Biography") Novel! To give you an idea of just how Morally "Heroic" the 108 Stars in the Novel are, the Nicest & Most Moral of them (Lu Zhishen the Flower Monk) beats a Man to Death in his Introductory Chapter... Also, Xiyouji (lit. "West-Journey-Record') is much less the "DBZ" & more THE ShenMo (Deities & Monsters) Novel of the 16th Century!
Boom, watched the whole thing in one go.. 🙈🙉🙊 Well, I had it one in the background and listened to most of it while I was working, but still.. 😁 Have a good one Jordan!
I am currently playing this on my Rg35XX. I never grew up with a Playstation, my parents refused to buy me one because they didn't want me to spend a chunk of my childhood playing games. My cousin did have a PS1 that time so I got to try some PS1 titles. You could say this is my first ever 'real' experience with a PS1 game and it's on a retro handheld. Needless to say, I am in love with this game. It has a certain charm I cannot seem to put my finger on. The characters and environment is full of life and I honestly find myself a bit attached with some characters. It's definitely a gem and I'm glad I got to experience a fresh playthrough of it while healing my inner childhood.
I love part 1. I was first introduced to it when i found it in a discount bin at a Johnny's Toy Store for $10 bucks. Actually both times that ive found it were in a discount bin still in tue factory wrap. I like part two also over all the other ones because of the sound track.
Just finished watching your retrospective for Suikoden 2 and currently starting on this one. Can't wait to watch the retrospective for the rest of the series. Subscribing!
Thank you so much for this review and I really enjoyed this game. I don’t consider 2 better than this one. I consider both games as one continuous story, that just takes place in two different regions within the same world. After all, you can recruit Tir in the second game. And yes, the soundtrack, absolutely amazing.
I've probably played this game about 20 times, it and Worms was the first thing I played and one of the only good memories of my ex-sister who introduced it to me and gave me my first PS console. This was a fun review even though I question your choice of team sometimes, lol! I used to talk to everyone and walk around and examine everything so I don't remember Milich's region giving me too much trouble. The inventory can be annoying but I got used to it and with some planning it's usually ok. I really love this game and now I will probably take some time and play through it once again!
Woah, this is also my very favorite and have played many times. For me it was Gremio’s death that was the hardest for me as a kid.. it’s amazing what you take from it at different points of your life and that it has that kind sort of depth! Of course I also had to get Suikoden 2 and enjoyed it, but it’s mostly forgettable to me compared to 1… (maybe because I played it at a less influential time?) The other intriguing aspect of Suikoden is the mysterious reoccurring characters like Yuber/Pesmerga, Jeanne, etc. that you always wonder what their story is! Thanks for taking me back with your in-depth video… just finally went back and beat Azure Dreams so I look forward to that video!
If you're wondering where you can play the game, some options are buying the physical copy, (you can play that on PS1, PS2 and PS3), downloading it on the Playstation store, which you can play on PSP or PS3, you can download an emulator and play it on computer or phone using emulator, and you can wait for the remaster which is supposed to come out for next gen consoles within the year.
To this day, there isn't one scene in any JRPG that has hit me as hard as when Odessa dies. I don't know what it is. The words, the music, what she was fighting for. It's crazy how many times I've cried to this particular scene.
The Ps1 is such an RPG beast. I honestly don't even know which I'd choose as a favorite. Lunar? Xenogears? Suikoden? Grandia? That's only a few of the amazing RPGs. What a console 😍
I enjoy Suikoden 3 and 4... I can see why people may have complaints for those games, but they both have elements that are really awesome. Suikoden 5 always frustrated me.
@@ABitMoreJordan The characters that stand out are done extremely well, great music, fast battles even though high random encounter rate, second best tactical battles in the series and duels and its darker plot. To me, it is the best looking 3D Gensou Suikoden game albeit with lesser battle animations than III. Lazlo's eyes are weird and his 'running animation' is too, but outside of that, the visuals look great. There are some major heartbreaking moments that fit in with the dark nature of the story. Being able to level up unite attacks was a neat addition and weapons changing in appearance when it was smithed a certain amount of times was as well. I enjoyed the articles that could be read in the game and the dojo. I give the game an 8/10 because despite the issues that it does have, the things that it excels at, it stands out in.

🐒 Proudly am also someone who loves the first game more. So glad I found this video. For me the moment Gremio died changed gaming for me. I was already a pretty big reader and was in my early teens. I had played games and enjoyed them but his death was the first moment I realized a story in a game could have the same impact as a great moment in a novel. I didn't even know if I liked Gremio. He was such an afterthought to me until that moment he closed himself in the poisoned room. It made me feel guilty, sad, and shocked in a way that forever changed my perception of video games as a medium for storytelling.
Great video. I never played this game after watching this video it makes me want to play. This video didn’t feel long.the only one I played was for the ds and I loved it.🐵🙈🙊
Damn, guess I have to cancel that Tinder date I had planned! 😯I'm sure she'll understand - everyone would do the same for almost two hours of Suikoden content! On a more serious note (I was serious though!), I'm looking forward to watching the video 🙂
Good 1st video! and about my favorite JRPG (series) as 1 is like .2 points below 2 for me 😅. Can’t wait for a new generation to experience the Remasters!
Dude you rock! I will be supporting you on patreon this week. You make me laugh and I love your content. Well done on everything your achieving. Hope the beautiful family is doing well 😎🏴
Woowoo, congrats, got almost 1k subs before the video even dropped!! As for me, 1&2 were equally as good. I never did play 3 onward, but I know that they didn't seem to strike my fancy all that much when I saw gameplay and such. And yes!! the American cover art was weird, looks like it was a willow movie poster or something. Glad they stuck to the anime renders for the cover on 2 over here in the states. 😅 Did love the strongholds and the amount of party members you can enlist in these games, which goes hand in hand with the skirmishes. So good for it's time. Didn't see anything comparable to my liking until Ni No Kuni 2, but it didn't have the party member registry like suikoden did. Great video friend. Dunno if I'll be able to watch it all, but I'll hang out for a bit and come back periodically. ✌️
Murayama has passed. Reflect on what made Suikoden 1 legendary. There's something about the music and story that made this better than Suikoden II. It's something you feel and cannot be expressed. FREE WILL TILL THE END OF TIME.
I fucking love the character art in this game more than any other game. It's so distinct and the watercolour art style, esp on characters like Odessa, is so memorable
I enjoyed this retrospective. I actually played Suikoden 2 before playing the original. However, it was like finding a treasure when I finally played it. I bought it the first time i saw it for sale in a local shop. My brother was lucky enough to get his copy at a yard sale for only $1.
Great video, subbed! Got into the series after the remaster announcement and I wish the games got more attention! Beat S1 recently and loved my time with it, Gremio/Odessa/Cleo/Kirkis/Valeria were my faves stars of destiny! ..And also got though S4+Tactics before it, going into them with no expectations definitely helped (+ wanted to play them first after hearing how supposedly bad they are) but I can definitely see how they were a step down when it came to character/writing quality compared to S1 and most likely S2/3/5 based on what I've heard but I still enjoyed my time with them
Not sure why but TH-cam has put a content warning on your video and probably age restricted it. Thanks for the great review Jordan . Never played this growing up but I am greatly anticipating the remastered editions coming out soon.
🤔️ I don't see anything different in the settings, nor have I got a message from YT. I tried watching the video in private browsing and I didn't get anything. So hopefully it was just a glitch you saw 🤞
Suikoden 2 is my favourite, but any Suikoden is good Suikoden. Even Suikoden 4. Honestly, even Suikoden 1 had stuff like stuff like reflections on the castle floors that I don't know if the SNES could have pulled off.
You’re right about the reflections. You can tell the SNES couldn’t handle this. But that’s only if you look at it more closely, at a glance, I think people would dismiss it
Really enjoyed the video and would love one on each of the five main games. Especially if you haven't played Suikoden 3 before. As for the spy, I always refer to him as "Dirty Sanchez" when I play the game. Oh here's my monkey emoji. c(^^)c
slowly buying the suikoden series, and I recently got tactics. I know it takes place between 4 and 5, but what about them all as a whole? does the story run concurrent through the whole series or is each one different? what about the psp game? I know you can get the english translation patch (which i have setup) but should i play woven web by itself or wait until I am done with 1 thru 5? and what about tierkries on ds?
You should definitely play 1-3 concurrently. I’d say 4 and 5 isn’t so important as to when you play them. But might as well go in order. The PSP and Tierkis you don’t need to worry about. I’d play those afterwards as they are quite disconnected from the whole thing.
Great vid! 🐒 I played Suikoden 2 and I’m pretty sure 3 and 4, but never 1 nor 5; also had the DS game. Would love to play through this now! (And find a way to get the save file to import to 2)
Something not mentioned in the video is, Dragons aren't naturally inherent to this world, and rely on a True Rune always having an owner to anchor them here. Upon their immenent death, dragons can return themselves to the World of Wings and Scales; we don't know if this saves them or whether they just go to die at home. We've never seen one take a fatal wound, go there, and then return at least. Which means Black, for whatever reason, chose purposely not to do so as he was dying.

This video didn’t feel long.the only one I played was for the ds and I loved it.🐵🙈🙊
I love this game, my favorite above all games. 2, 3, 5, even 4 kinda, are fun. I cant wait for Eiyuden and the suikoden 1 and 2 remaster
👍 currently working on a Suikoden 2 retrospective 😅
I was like one video? Then I went, oooh Suikoden! Subbed 😂
Thanks! Next one should be in a week or so. 😊
Damn, guess I have to cancel that Tinder date I had planned! 😯I'm sure she'll understand - everyone would do the same for almost two hours of Suikoden content! On a more serious note (I was serious though!), I'm looking forward to watching the video 🙂
Ha! Thank you for choosing me over a date 😂
Good 1st video! and about my favorite JRPG (series) as 1 is like .2 points below 2 for me 😅. Can’t wait for a new generation to experience the Remasters!
Tierkreis And Tactics (Rhapsodia) came to the States though the Card games and PSP title remained JP exclusive 😉
I really hope the remasters are a hit
This has me so hyped for the remaster. They need to give us the release date soon. I can't wait to finally replay this game (along with Suikoden II).
I can’t wait for it!
Throughly enjoyed this! Makes makes me want to play it again. Keep uploading these Jordan!
Thanks bud!
Dude you rock! I will be supporting you on patreon this week. You make me laugh and I love your content. Well done on everything your achieving. Hope the beautiful family is doing well 😎🏴
Massively appreciate it! Thanks ever so much. Hope I can keep on making you laugh 😊
Love the commentary aspect!
Thanks bud!
Can´t wait to play this game, first time for me and I´m excited to play it!! Thanks for the video!
Have a great time, please come back and let me know your thoughts when you’ve played it 😊
The music in the Mcdohl home is my favorite song in the first game
Very nostalgic!
Double Jordan within an hour. I need a cool drink
🍻
I have to play this sometime, such a good story!!
This is excellent. First time viewer here and I will def be checking out your other videos. Suikoden 3 is my fave in the series!
Edit: 🙉
Perfect timing since I just put out a video for Suikoden 2 :D (I'll probably get to S3 sometime this year)
Amazing video Jordan. I love this game... Although I played it so many years ago... Thanks! 🐒
Thanks for watching bud! 🐒
Did love the strongholds and the amount of party members you can enlist in these games, which goes hand in hand with the skirmishes. So good for it's time. Didn't see anything comparable to my liking until Ni No Kuni 2, but it didn't have the party member registry like suikoden did. Great video friend. Dunno if I'll be able to watch it all, but I'll hang out for a bit and come back periodically. ✌️
Thanks for the comment bud! I hope i get to 3 at some point. Want to try that one out
Murayama has passed. Reflect on what made Suikoden 1 legendary.
There's something about the music and story that made this better than Suikoden II. It's something you feel and cannot be expressed.
FREE WILL TILL THE END OF TIME.
Incredibly sad news
AWESOME VIDEO MAN!
Thanks matey!
I fucking love the character art in this game more than any other game. It's so distinct and the watercolour art style, esp on characters like Odessa, is so memorable
Hello! I followed you here! Lol let me tell you this video is certainly what I was expecting from your style. Love it!
Thank you! 😊
Great Video ! This was perfect through my afternoon ! 🐒 I had suikoden 4 for ps2 but it was realllly bad , I would love to see more !
I’m almost dreading getting up to 4 😆
"big booby ant mama" is a phrase that will forever be etched in my brain
🍒 🐜
I enjoyed this retrospective. I actually played Suikoden 2 before playing the original. However, it was like finding a treasure when I finally played it. I bought it the first time i saw it for sale in a local shop. My brother was lucky enough to get his copy at a yard sale for only $1.
Glad you enjoyed it! Sounds like he found a bargain!
Great video, subbed! Got into the series after the remaster announcement and I wish the games got more attention! Beat S1 recently and loved my time with it, Gremio/Odessa/Cleo/Kirkis/Valeria were my faves stars of destiny!
..And also got though S4+Tactics before it, going into them with no expectations definitely helped (+ wanted to play them first after hearing how supposedly bad they are) but I can definitely see how they were a step down when it came to character/writing quality compared to S1 and most likely S2/3/5 based on what I've heard but I still enjoyed my time with them
I’m tackling S2 right now. Might get to the end of the series in a couple of years 😅
I got this Game in 1997 at 10 was my 1st game for ps1 I got for Christmas I can't wait for march for remastered
Nice to see Suikoden return
Love the new channel
Thanks a lot Brian 😊
Not sure why but TH-cam has put a content warning on your video and probably age restricted it.
Thanks for the great review Jordan . Never played this growing up but I am greatly anticipating the remastered editions coming out soon.
🤔️ I don't see anything different in the settings, nor have I got a message from YT. I tried watching the video in private browsing and I didn't get anything. So hopefully it was just a glitch you saw 🤞
Suikoden 1and 2 are the perfect original and sequel game. It's a true gift
I loved the black cover
Suikoden 2 is my favourite, but any Suikoden is good Suikoden. Even Suikoden 4.
Honestly, even Suikoden 1 had stuff like stuff like reflections on the castle floors that I don't know if the SNES could have pulled off.
You’re right about the reflections. You can tell the SNES couldn’t handle this. But that’s only if you look at it more closely, at a glance, I think people would dismiss it
Will be back after I play the upcoming Suikoden remaster. :)
😁
I've seen somewhere that the war battle mechanic of Suikoden is a rock-paper-scissor where ninja beats all three
Really enjoyed the video and would love one on each of the five main games. Especially if you haven't played Suikoden 3 before.
As for the spy, I always refer to him as "Dirty Sanchez" when I play the game.
Oh here's my monkey emoji. c(^^)c
🙉 I do plan on the whole series, just want to spread them out a bit. Don’t want to be “Thr Suikoden Channel” 😊
slowly buying the suikoden series, and I recently got tactics.
@@ABitMoreJordan gotcha, thanks man. Keep up the great work! Planning on a Suikoden 2 and the rest of the series perspective?
Suikoden 2 video is already up 😃
I love 2 and 5. Never finished 1. Maybe this can make me comeback and finished it.
Hope you can!
Suikoden 1 is amazing
Excellent video man as always! Have you played an old PS1 game called Legend of Legaia?
I’ve heard of it but never played it
Legend of legia is underrated!
Great vid! 🐒 I played Suikoden 2 and I’m pretty sure 3 and 4, but never 1 nor 5; also had the DS game. Would love to play through this now! (And find a way to get the save file to import to 2)
Never played the DS game, definitely want to give it a try!
I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for the laughs and the hard work 🐒
Thanks Tracy! 🐒
Which means Black, for whatever reason, chose purposely not to do so as he was dying.
here for your algAe rhythm gunna watch this when i get xenosaga up n running soon honk
Subbed from the physical series, what is the subscriber level of the oled to be given away over here???
No OLED giveaway here 😛
