    You have literally the best sewing tutorials on TH-cam. I've been frustrated to tears by other 'tutorials' that just look pretty with no actual information or explanation. You're so thorough without being condescending and without rambling. I do not understand why so many sewing/cooking/crafting tutorials include their grandmother's and supporting character's backstories as well as a brief history of Poland.
    Seriously, thank you.

    I'm a Maintenance Technician at several University Student Housing Apartments. Every year students move out and leave sooo many items behind, (furniture, electronics, clothing, etc). Last july, a resident happened to leave a very old sewing machine, a Bernette 320. I've never sewn before, but my stepmother always has since I remember growing up. I decided to take it to her so she can test if it worked. It worked perfectly and even had extra accessories in storage compartments. Because of the current Covid-19 situation, at the end of March or beginning of April, face masks became mandatory in my county. I decided to make my own. So I started using that Bernette machine and immediately found an interest in the sewing craft. I've already bought 3 other machines, (Singer Fashion Mate, Singer ProFinish, and a Singer Futura Quartet) they might not be the best but are doing me good. After doing facemasks, I started practicing several sewing techniques and doing other small projects. I'm soo interested in doing my first collared dress shirt. After watching several vids, yours was the most explained. You showed in detail how some parts come together that had me doubting I could make a shirt. Thankyou for your vid, definitely gained a fan and subscriber. 👋😁👍

    Laugh anytime you say "I don't know if you can see those marks on camera, but I can see them just fine.."
    I know ifs not meant to say we are blind, but that's how I imagine it every time lol I know you are just referencing the ability to see white chalk on camera against the fabrics. Great job on that shirt!

    I’m brand new to sewing so sorry if this a dumb question but how do you make an XL pattern from a pattern that only goes from SM, M, L???
    Would really, really appreciate your help. I’m a brand new subscriber an absolutely love your channel! You make sewing look cool even though I’m still not telling anyone I’m learning how to do it!!! 🤫😂

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hid my sewing from people too for a while until I started making some really cool shit... then they were just super jealous and wanted me to make them clothes all the time lol
      So MOST patterns (especially for men) come in 2 variations:
      S-M-L - and then the same exact pattern for XL-2XL-3XL
      When you're looking at patterns, make sure you get the size bracket your looking for.
      Same thing for jeans too, it'll be like, 28-36 in waist, and then 38-46 in waist... etc.
      Hope that helps!

  • @Magnum_Wolf

    I'm still trying to finish my fursuit, but after I get it done I want to try and make a button down shirt. I don't have a serger, and my sewing machine doesn't do embroidery (I wish I spent the extra money and got one that did), so mine won't be exactly like this one.

    • @TockCustom
      @TockCustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do not 'need' a serger to make this shirt - the only time you really need one is if you're planning to sell clothing, or give them out as gifts. If you make clothing for yourself, nobody will ever know weather or not your seams are overlocked on the inside lol

    • @travisb.6015
      @travisb.6015 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was one of the biggest reasons why I have not bought my machine yet, I wanted to go for a machine I would not "grow out of" too quickly. However, like Tock said, you can still make some great clothes and other sewn items without having super fancy or specific machines. Anyone I give a gift to, better be grateful I make them anything at all!! lol

    I just completed my 2nd shirt: Tread Theroy Fair Field Button Up Shirt. This was a greater challenge because this shirt has flat felled seams, sleeves placket and yoke. The pattern includes a 19 page booklet of procedures that includes a fail safe way of attaching the collar. Don't stop with one shirt. Make more and keep learning.
    Tock's video was certainly a great start.

    I keep coming back to this video because it keeps me from making mistakes. I was gifted a sewing machine and decided that pillows and such were too easy for a beginner. I made my first ever project (this style of shirt) following your tutorial. It was not only a success, but my mother (70 years of sewing), sister (45 years of sewing), and niece (15 years, and a degree in clothing design) all were beyond impressed with how well the shirt came out. I owe this and credited such to your tutorial. Because of your video I now have a passion for sewing and tailoring my own clothing. Thank you again sir.

    I can't reiterate enough the numerous comments before me of what a wonderful teacher you are! I think you're the first male teacher I've listened to in a predominantly female craft and quickly found I prefer listening to you and how you teach. You clearly and concisely explain everything in a smooth easy going manner which makes it easy for someone to listen, watch and really learn what you're showing. I had no clue of how to read or start beginner sewing with a pattern but you broke it down, clearly explained each part and showed it's really not that complicated. Btw, your voice is audio listener's gold! I'm mind blown, haha! I have only quilted with my sewing experience (20+ quilts), but have wanted to learn how to sew clothes but was intimidated by it. My grandmother was a seamstress (made all my high school dance dresses), and did alterations for people so this skill has been one I have wanted to learn. Thank you, thank you for your videos and offering to teach this skill. Subscribed!
