    For the whole of his life, my Dad used to talk about a ‘wadgamacallit’. Then my Mum used to be looking for it. I never found it and wouldn’t have known if I did.
    People are funny and verge on slightly scary sometimes, Kevin. I once did a video on a mic. I showed it on camera, on stand, on selfie stick boom, up my shirt, down the drain, in the bathroom and the first comment I got was, ‘can it be mounted on camera’.
    Makes you wonder, do people do it on purpose or is it just ‘contact calls’?
    The monopod looks brilliant, even if I can’t stuff it in my Christmas stocking or blow it over with a hurricane. Actually, I love how substantial it is and just how quick it is to set up. I got the wife to agree to buy me one if I cleaned her car, but then she saw its price and she’s after a contract!

    The one thing missing on here is a safety wrist strap. I have the SIRUI P-204SR which has one. This way when you are moving the pole around and lose your grip you won’t drop your camera thanks to using the wrist strap. It has saved my camera a few times.

    I would like to see them put out an arca-swiss top Plate as an option. This would be the most convenient for my camera L-plates

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I understand that, but I like that it doesn't have the plate. I can mount the Arca, Manfrotto, or whatever to it, as in options. The QR plate they provide is not, to my knowledge, made specifically as a QR plate, since you wouldn't have that same option on other pieces of gear - its main use is to quickly remove the top and whatever rig you have setup, and move it to the hi-hat.

    Excellent video, Kevin! I'm thinking of a monopod for hiking and Landscape photography, and am considering either this IFOOTAGE Cobra 2 C180-II (with a Leofoto VH-105 tilting head)....OR, a Sirui P-324S, but have heard of the following alleged issues. Any thoughts on these alleged “issues" or which monopod is more robust?
    "The Cobra 2 has a "plastic" ball joint at the base, and the 1/4 3/8 threads don't completely retract for mounting".
    "The Sirui's ball joint at the base gets dirt/grit easily, making cleaning necessary more often."
    Thank you, sir, and based on your review, I'm leaning (pardon the pun) towards this IFOOTAGE Cobra 2 C180. !

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Steve! All I can talk to is the monopod I have. As far as the threads not retracting, I haven’t found that problem at all on any of the iFootage products I have with this feature on their monopod, tripod, or SeaStars quick release plates. The ball joint at the bottom plastic? I don’t get that. Maybe it is but doesn’t seem like it. Regardless, I’ve had no problem with the ball joint at the bottom of this monopod and after 2 years it still works as advertised. Dirt and grit have not been a problem so far. Although I don’t get out shooting much, and rarely shoot in dusty dirty environments so hard for me to comment on that aspect. You’re doing the right thing though, checking out all the specs and reviews before making your buying decision. There’s no way any one person can tell you the exact thing you need as everyone is different and uses their gear in different shooting positions. 👍

    I would also like them to make a handle similar, but with better design than the handle that comes with the MagMod Box pro kit. MagMod dropped the ball with their handle design. The handle connects directly to the magRing that can hold two rectangular speed lites as delivered in the pro kit. However, I bought the kit and ordered the optional Profoto MagSpeedring. But profoto dropped the ball. The included and very desirable handle has no way to connect to the Profoto MagSpeedring. Magmod could/should have included an adapter that would attach the Profoto B10, or any other Profoto mono light, and like Maghandle could attach to any lightstand.

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A handle on the monopod? I don't get the use of this. When you mount a video head (and should) you get handles and all that, unless I misunderstand your comment, entirely possible since I haven't reached max saturation of coffee yet. :)

    I have concerns about the system used for the monopod and base QR - how resistant is it to dirt(will any debris jam it); is there any play in it, or any way to remove play once it develops; how hard is it to release accidentally?

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Easy to release, no play, dirt...well, no idea, shouldn't be a problem, depends how much dirt you're talking about. if it's that much dirt, id be worried more about the camera.

    Thanks for the heads up about this monopod. Will the pod support the weight of a 3 pound camera with the monopod fully extended or extended to at least 5 feet ? Will it be steady with no hands , enough to shoot video ? If it do, I will have to get 1.

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3 pounds? For sure! It supports up to 18. As long as the ground is flat and stable, you're good to go.

    • @tikibongo99
      @tikibongo99 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got the Carbon 71 inch from Amazon today. I put my Canon C100, lens & a cheap Magnus head on it, on my kitchen tile floor, extended the monopod to the full 71 inches. It swayed a little bit for a few seconds, then stayed still to my eyes. I'm guessing it'll be fine recording video with no hands. but will just have to guard it from bozos bumping into it. Thanks again. I can sell my other monopods. :)

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure. It's definitely NOT a replacement for a tripod, nor is it supposed to be that, and fully extended, it will sway with gear on it and has to settle down. I "think" I've determined most of the sway os coming from the soft rubber feet, so I'm going to attach some slide on "somethings" and see. Frankly, mounting 5 or more pounds of weight on anything 6 foot tall, unless it's a single straight 6 foot bar with 4 welded feet, is going to do that IMHO.

    • @BasicFilmmaker
      @BasicFilmmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No blue. One commenter (although rude as hell) has a good point about not showing its stability at full hight in the wind. The answer is yes. High wind? Well, even your tripod will wobble around in the high wind, so not suggested.

    • @BasicFilmmaker

      It the thumb screw. Pretty easy to return to vertical. With a fluid on top, they usually include a level, or you use the thirds on your camera, same as a tripod. Hope that answers your question.

      Basic Filmmaker cool that's what I was thinking, was curious if there was a quick way to return to optimal stability, tho it looks pretty darn staple from the vid anyway (and I guess you wouldn't want any bump of your filming and moving the pod).
