    I know lots of people hate that my generation records every concert we go to because we're not "living in the moment," but Im personally always grateful for the footage I record at shows. Everytime I watch my concert videos I feel like I'm reliving the show. Only mentioning this because you mentioned how you hate recording at shows. That's just my thoughts, I still feel like I'm living in the moment while recording too, it's not like im staring at my phone the whole time I'm recording

      I used to be cranky about people on their phone at shows, but I'm not anymore. There's definitely a generational element that exists, but who the hell am I to say someone can't enjoy a show that way? And honestly, there were times when it was really neat seeing the illumination from all the phones. It adds something new (new to me anyway)

      As an elder millennial, I appreciate being able to experience shows in the early 00s, especially intimate ones, without a bunch of bright screens shining back at my face in the dark. Having said that, there are certainly shows I wish I had videos of because all I have now are memories which will fade over time 😫

      @@bobthepoppopNot sure about your show experience, however, the illumination effect was serene when I saw him perform _Pride_ at his *Damn.* tour.
      I realized, it's just a modern lighter glowing up a freezed frame of time. We all know it's lightning and fortunately, we have the resources to capture it... together.
      For this experience, I hold Pride in high regard. To see a plethora of people, background, creed, age, and color - it's a memory I own. Sometimes it exceeds just _Rap_ music.

    Seeing your progress, your journey through Hip-Hop has been beautiful to watch. I follow many channels but none of them are done by people are articulate as yourself. As open about your feelings when hearing the music, as open about the emotions that run through. There's only a couple maybe but you are special. As the fact that I know you come from listening to other genres that I'm also hugely into like Rock and Metal, it's just awesome.
    I mean, i don't know many people who love Tool, Mastodon but also MF DOOM and Kendrick Lamar, ya know? All my life I've found myself bouncing between groups of friends depending on what they're into. I try to be into it all. To not limit myself. To not be close minded. It's almost our instinct to being this way so it takes effort but it's so worth it. Music is my first passion. What it's able to bring to a human being is insane.
    Music is my life in many ways. I know many claim to be fans but I sit there and read wiki pages, watch so many interviews, watch documentaries, listen to their entire discographies, etc. I really try to dive deep into what I like. With rap, I watch channels that break down the bars and such. I also enjoy composers or "decomposers" break down songs. Talk about how it can be made. It's just awesome. Knowing an artists really well can only enhance their music imo. Unless it's soulless music done for money. Not much in that. I try not to waste time with that sort of music.

    • @bobthepoppop
      @bobthepoppop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Something I've really enjoyed about this whole journey/channel experience has been some of the 'knocking off the rust' for my mind. It's easy to settle into what's familiar as you get older, easier to disregard knew and avoid it. Opening up and experiencing all of the new things has put my mind into a fresher state... revitalized in a way. It almost feels cliché to say, but I feel like my mind is a little younger because of this whole thing. I'm still absorbing rather than getting locked into my ways.

      @IceKoldKilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bobthepoppop Absolutely the way to go. I agree. I'm glad that it's doing that for you. And honestly, I thank Tool for helping me grow on this path. It's helped me open my mind a lot more. Absorb more. Learn to listen and observe more.

    Bob, this is probably going to sound wierd, but I just love your presence so much. I'll refrain from jumping the parasocial shark by saying I love you, but you just genuinely seem like one of the coolest dudes on TH-cam. Great video. I don't think I've been to a show since like 2018, but this looked awesome. I actually saw Kendrick in 2012 at the Fresno Fair, and he didn't even sell out half the seats. Crazy to think that he has come so far to be one of the biggest names in hip hop when he couldn't even sell out the local fair. This was before GKMC came out, so it sorta makes sense, but I still find it funny that people just didn't know then.

    I’m so glad you went! I seen him in Portland and it was my first time and it was just amazing!! I also feel you about getting emotional about the crowd, I think that’s my favorite part of going to a concert. Everyone is here for this one person that you also enjoy and then you guys just sing all the lyrics together. It’s a beautiful thing!

    i was there at the sac concert as well, my first concert of any kind! sadly couldn’t find u :( if i did i definitely would’ve gotten a picture! but i totally agree with your sentiments about the unification felt at the concert! especially during songs like love, die hard, and mirror, songs i actually shed a tear or two during because the idea of everyone in the concert chanting the lyrics to songs about self growth, loving one another and wanting to be better people made me so emotional to know i’m not the only one who goes through these things, super powerful shit! was only made better by the fact that kendrick was happy to be home and made several comments about being back in good old california. made it all the more special 😎 definitely one of the highlights of my life!

    I've only been to one stadium concert. It was Depeche Mode in 2005. I had crap seats and was a bit bummed about it. All of that was erased once the show started and I realized the distance didn't impact the quality of the show. It was absolutely amazing. The energy from the crowd was truly moving! I could hear them all singing and see them all dancing. Definitely one of my top concerts ever. All of that to say, congrats on your first hip hop show!!

    Broo I've been a rap fan for over a decade but I also went to my first rap concert that Tuesday night! I got to see Wu-Tang, Nas, & Busta Rhymes. And it's really interesting what you said about the melting pot and how "the kids are alright". I had a similar thought about the melting pot but my crowd actually skewed older! There were early 20s and teens and even kids, but DJ Scratch opened and he had the crowd shout if they were over 30, over 35, and over 40. 40+ got the most energy haha. Makes sense because their first albums were all early 90s but Scratch did his DJ thing on vinyl with a medley of 80s hop hop hits, even some proto hip hop like James Brown, and the crowd was still singing along to every song. It just hit me, because I grew up in a more conservative household that didn't approve of the "language" and some of the lyrical themes. But to see so many people of so many ages that "get it" was awesome.

    I sat nearly where you sat but at the Toronto show! Such a perfect view especially during the "quarantine" section of the show. The Big Steppers Tour is one of the best (if not THE best) rap show I've ever been to. It had all the theatrics of the Yeezus show I went to in 2013 (where Kendrick opened for Kanye) but Kendrick's performance here cannot be topped.

    I went to Kendrick in Portland, and when he played crown I literally thought of you lol! Glad you got to see him!!!! Something to know is that something that’s unique about Kendrick apposed to a lot of other artists is that he doesn’t rap over the vocals on the original tracks like most other rap artists do. Kendrick is easily the greatest rap performer I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a decent list of reputable rap artists.

    I saw him live in Portland last week. First concert ever and it will probably be the best for a long while. I thought he'd play 3-4 of his older songs but he played every single great song he's ever put out. When money trees played the whole crowd was singing in unison and it was amazing.

      @@alexie101010 I also thought his stage play was really fun, like when he got entrapped in the cube and took a covid test. Sent a video to my friends of him going to bed on stage without context and they thought it was funny.
