"Peregrine reminds me of a bird" All peregrine falcons (bird of prey) : 👁👄👁 Edit: I originally put "English bird of prey" cause Jessica and Claudia are English so should probably know it but bc ppl were pointing it out ill take it off to please everyone 🙂 xx
Peregrine falcons are the world's most widespread raptor and, rather than being English, can be found on every major land mass except Antarctica (and, for some reason, New Zealand). They're also the fastest critters out there, reaching over 200 mph when they dive. Cool stuff.
Another interesting thing to consider: initials and any inherited jewelry. For example, my name starts with an R, as does my grandmother's. As a result, I inherited a fair amount of R jewelry. By a weird twist of fate, my partner's mother's name also starts with an R, so more R-based jewelry. It has been decided that, should we ever have a child, said child will also need to have an R name, lest the jewelry go unworn. (for the record, I am aware of how silly this is)
Nicknames aren't easy for some names. My daughters name is Autumn and I had no idea how you could make a cutesy name for that. Luckily she solved that for us. She was a baby and saw a picture of herself in our hallway, she pointed at herself in the picture and said 'Autie'. We still call her that to this day and I love how it happened.💗
My daughter is called Penelope but we mostly call her Penny, she saw herself in a photo and said Pen-en! So now we call her that 😂 Autie is adorable ❤️
Oh! That story is so sweet! ❤ My daugther did the same, pointed to a picture of her on our wall and Said "loooooook, Essie there" (her first sentence actually!) Now my Kelsi hates the nickname Essie but loves her given name; Kelsi Aylin ❤
My Laurelin called herself Lulu in her first toddler babble stage. It stuck so hard that now at the age of 11 she only uses Lulu everywhere and HATES to be called by her proper name.
I'm surprised they mentioned the singer Anastasia. 🤣 I loved and still love her but she was never nearly as well known in the U.S. as she was overseas.
The only advice I give expectant parents is the advice I received: Call the shortened and long name out the back door. Try it both as if you're calling for tea and as if the child's done something wrong. As a parent, you will do both, and whatever name you chose has to sound right when you call it.
I partially agree. I do however think that calling your child by their name sternly is not an overall good practice. It's one of the reasons I came to dislike my own name.
@@amara560 it's more about the flow if it. Some people name their babies something that is just way too hard to say, especially if it is a double name, where you use both first and middle name
We did the same thing, my husbands parents are Deaf and we needed them to be able to pronounce it if yelling for them playing outside. Ariana didn’t make the list.
Fun fact: Tarquin, the rare Roman name that doesn't end with "us", is actually Tarquinius (and also the name of the last jerk of a king the romans had, so wouldn't suggest)
Yeah I was just like...hmm I have some bad news about the legendary king of Rome and his son Sextus that may make you change your mind about that name, Claudia
this is very true and I only know this because of rick riordan's trials of apollo! yeah massive jerk, the book version killed our beloved hero Jason so not a fan x2
i have never heard of the name Tarquin in my life, or even the abbreviated Tar. I live in America. edit: although I really like the name Tauren (pronouned: Tor-rin) or even if the name Orin feels masculine
I honest to God thought about commander Tarkin, and wondered how this child would go through life sounding like a Star Wars villain... but that just reminded me I'm a nerd and don't belong here 😂
scientist's perspective: Millicent are just two prefixes strung together. Makes me think of Millimeter and Centimeter... So basically it would be 1/1000*1/100. You could also call that child 10^-5...
Can you imagine 🤣 Teacher: Hello new class, let's check attendance. James Lincoln? Emma Miller? ........ Ten to the power of minus five Musk?!? 10^-5: _rolls eyes_ it's Millicent!
You said “mini Kellgren-Fozard”, so I recommend “Minerva” for a girl. Beautiful, classical, powerful, easy to pronounce, and can be shortened to “Minnie”!
I love when pet names for babies before they are born become their name. We called my cousin Waiting Inside Little Fairburn (their last name) when my Auntie was pregnant or WILF for short, his name is now Wilfie.
@@annak1712 I mean, it’s the name of the Roman goddess of wisdom (Athena being the Greek version). It’s been used as a given name for centuries, and has been a popular name in fiction as well. Also, what are the odds that by the time their baby is old enough to go to university that the same systems will still be used? New programs and technologies are created all the time.
There was a German actress in the 1950s or so named Rosemarie Schneider and she shortened it and called herself Romy which today is a well known (but not overly common) name for girls.
My name is Vivian. Would not recommend this name in Germany, because people pronounce and write the name wrong all the time. It gets really annoying. I can count on one hand how many people get it right😂

Oh my goodness, yes! That even applies to pet names. I had a family member suggest a name for my kitten and I had to tell them a that it was a hard NO on that name suggestion , because of certain students with the same name 😂! Every teacher has a list of names that are “dead” to them 😂!
If you want to know the accurate ranking of names the Office of National Statistics is the correct one for use in the UK, just a heads up as you mentioned not wanting names to be too popular! NameBerry, etc just tells you how searched it is generally ☺️
My name is Hermione! No one was able to pronounce it before Harry Potter came out and I've heard every possible pronunciation lol. But I love it so much I kind of want to name my first daughter after myself, maybe as a middle name. Men do it all the time after all!
Universal truth: you really discover just how many people you hate when looking for a baby name. Even if it's lovely, if you've met some prick with said name it's like: "oh no, F that"
As Anastasia, i can guarantee your child would get extremely annoyed at everyone mentioning the princess, the movie, the cartoon, the singers&actresses etc if you name them Anastasia lol this torture is ENDLESS And not to mention it’s incredibly popular of a name... in the ex-soviet countries that is
Anastasia is old good slavic name, there is nothing wrong with this name. I had tree classmates with this name and all of them were nice and upbeat people.
Totally agree with Daria on that, in Russia being named Anastasia is pretty normal and eveyone just calls you Nastia without giving it a second thought
As a "Liz" you're entirely correct, there are too many of us. There were three Elizabeths in my grade three class, and all of us had the middle name "Anne".
FYI the majority of the “baby name” websites don’t give accurate information. Name berry in particular is almost always incorrect. If you want to know the actual meaning of a name use behindthename.com

See I heard Algernon and thought of the wizard that got turned into a toad in the Worst Witch novels. No is probably still a good call for naming a kid Algernon
@@waterdragon3367 I get that, but I also think it's fair to point that out. My immediate reaction to Tarquin was also "why would you name your kid THAT" :D I mean obviously if people really love that name they should still pick it, but if I were looking for a baby name I'd probably be grateful if people pointed out that it has certain meanings/connotations or that there are people of that name I might not be aware of.
Honestly my nephews name is Damian, spelled exactly like that, and he gets compared to that antichrist child called Damien surprisingly infrequently. What I'm trying to say her is that most people probably won't know that Tarquin was an evil king.
My name is Cara and my youngest niece called me Rara until she learned how to say my name. She's 3 now and sometimes she doesn't bother using my title "Aunt". I'm just "Cara".

Actually, according to the legend there were 2 Tarquin. Prisco and Superbo, and I believe you are referring to the second. And it's a probably a reference to the area from wich the 2 kings were from

How could it remind anyone of anything other than our beloved Peregrin Took, tallest of all Hobbits and squire of Gondor?! :P
Peregrine falcons are the world's most widespread raptor and, rather than being English, can be found on every major land mass except Antarctica (and, for some reason, New Zealand). They're also the fastest critters out there, reaching over 200 mph when they dive. Cool stuff.
Yeah, Peregrine Falcon was the first came to my mind :)
(for the record, I am aware of how silly this is)
I like it, it's cute. And I like the name rosalind after the female scientist.🥰
Sounds eminently practical to me
It's not silly! What a wonderful idea!
My initials spell CAB like a taxi cab.
100% my initials spell SCAM and when I take my partner's surname my initials will be SCAB... I'm going to have to move those middle names around..
Surely Millicent *is* the short version? "Cent" is a thousand times bigger.

I find Theodosia SO pretty, it ends with -ia and can be shortened to Theo (gender neutral!) or Dodie (which is adorable).
I would rather shorten names like Theodora, Theodosia and Theophania/Theofania to Thea as opposed to Theo.
I definitely vote theodosi
Theodosia
Hamilton
Also, there's that sweet Hamilton song
Nicknames aren't easy for some names. My daughters name is Autumn and I had no idea how you could make a cutesy name for that. Luckily she solved that for us. She was a baby and saw a picture of herself in our hallway, she pointed at herself in the picture and said 'Autie'. We still call her that to this day and I love how it happened.💗
That’s adorable! I love both versions 😸
My daughter is called Penelope but we mostly call her Penny, she saw herself in a photo and said Pen-en! So now we call her that 😂
Autie is adorable ❤️
I have a friend whose name is Autumn and she goes by Tutu 😅
Oh! That story is so sweet! ❤
My daugther did the same, pointed to a picture of her on our wall and Said "loooooook, Essie there" (her first sentence actually!) Now my Kelsi hates the nickname Essie but loves her given name; Kelsi Aylin ❤
My Laurelin called herself Lulu in her first toddler babble stage. It stuck so hard that now at the age of 11 she only uses Lulu everywhere and HATES to be called by her proper name.
I'm surprised they talked about the name Anastasia sounding like a princess name without mentioning Anastasia Romanov
I'm surprised they mentioned the singer Anastasia. 🤣 I loved and still love her but she was never nearly as well known in the U.S. as she was overseas.
Oh I thought that was the reference they were making...
Or Disney's Princess Anastasia from Sleeping Beauty...
@@allestra00 that’s Aurora, but it’s a good thought.
Is it bad that I immediately thought of Anastasia Steele from 50 Shades? 😂

Fun fact: Tarquin, the rare Roman name that doesn't end with "us", is actually Tarquinius
(and also the name of the last jerk of a king the romans had, so wouldn't suggest)
My first thought when I heard that name was 'jerk'.

As a Rosemary myself, my childhood nickname was "Roro." Have always been stridently against going by either "Rose" or "Mary"
