Johnny Moore was the best lead drifter. English music invaded the U.S. and the drifters moved to England. The Brits got the better of the deal. Saw the drifters at a place called the Country House, aka Deercrest Inn in the 60's. Still have wonderful memories of them. This music will last forever. Tony Lupinacci
I grew up listening to these guys and loved every tune, great Carol King songs she wrote a lot of them. I had the pleasure of Johnny Moore's company when I worked with them at The Coulston Hall in Bristol in 1996 what a show.
One of my teachers at school used to play The Drifters to us kids and we loved it. That was only 7 years ago and i thank her for introducing me to these amazing singers. DOWN ON THE BEACH TONIGHT!!!!
Me to.What a voice and what a song.I remember having the greatest hits on vinyl and the cover had pool balls on on it if I remember rightly.Ah youth club on a Wedenesday night.Seems so long ago now.:(
I wonder why Johnny Moore repeats the first verse (starting at 0:40 - Little girl, you know he won't call up again.. and so on) exactly at 1:45. In another video - th-cam.com/video/oPwBUZzfXHg/w-d-xo.html - you can hear, that there is definitely a second different verse (starting at 1:46 Little girl, he'll always be the cheatin' kind.. and so on).
I saw them performing in Nottingham back in the early to mid 90's, with Johnny as lead naturally and early said I'd go and see them again, but I could do that now, not with Johnny gone :-(
saw these guys in the 70s Whitchurch civic hall.the original and the best.saw a group calling them selves the drifters in Spain about 5 years ago awful.
