i love the way the national anthem is sung. national anthem and fireworks maybe just a common thing in singapore, but it touched me deeply. i wish someday indonesian could sing the national anthem that way, which will make us proud.. Go singaporeans, this is the day the world will shine on for everyone
Olympics Prez J Rogge described the village as "first class. This is the 22nd village I visited, since my first Olympic Games in 1968 so I can compare, and this is in the top league of the Olympic villages".4-time Olympic medallist sprinter Frank Frederick said that all the best youth athletes in the world want to represent their country at the YOG so "it's no wonder they're setting new records." Internationale de Gymanastique Prez Bruno Grandi said "the YOG level is extremely high."
@sonofthehill The entire ceremony was two and half hours long. They just chose some scenes and edited it into a 2 part video. Please don't judge until you've seen the whole ceremony yourself.
Truly Truly an achievement , Constrained my the short time notice of two and a half year as compared to the seven years which all hosting nations would usually receive.A visual spectacle as the flame was lit up .I'm pretty sure would agree that it was a BRILLIANT show if you've watched the entire ceremony .A testimonial of the success of the show , was to lead the crowd of a age groups to the youthful performance , to sing along and all .
@PetroBruno In this video, they didn't show the whole Opening Ceremony...The video just shows a summary of what is in the opening. The flags of all the NOCs(National Olympic Committees) were displayed at the Opening Ceremony.
As a former resident of Singapura, I am so proud of this nation. Without racism, our nation has gone so far- everyone brings ideas from their home countries, even cuisine. It is truly the best nation, since you have the best of everything. They put on such a show to how few people, but those that see it will remember it forever.
Great job Singapore! It looks like a great time for athletes, performers and audience. I think it would have been very cool to have been a young person performing.
hey guys give credit to the country. They had only 2.5 yrs in advance to prepare for this, instead of 7 yrs like the other host countries. It's commendable that they managed to even put up a show of this scale.
"The Youth Olympics Games Int Olympics Comm president Jacques Rogge , was very happy with the tv coverage and TH-cam hits in so many countries with 166 broadcasters, exclaiming,"It was the? 3rd most-watched item on TH-cam in the world..that's something!" . 205 Countries participated, and newspapers and TV channels in Asia , Europe and the West caught the resounding success of the Opening Ceremony in Singapore held @ the Marina Barrage. One Australian tabloid posed," Could we do this?"
YOG makes world peace without those people who doesnt appreciate the contribution by all countries especially for what Singapore did for this YOG:) Singapore always do their very best despite whatever situations they are given. And we believe:)
I can't say this opening ceremony was perfect, but it exceeded my expectations. I was shouting at the screen telling the flag bearers to go "LEFT" or "RIGHT" considering the number that went the wrong way! I was really disapointed Sean Kingston didn't turn up.
Thumbs up to Singapore good job! For a small country and just about 2 years plus to prepare you have done very well.To all the haters , you don't know how tough this is to prepare.this is the first ever Youth Olympics you should expect a lesser crowd watching, as for the first ever Olympics I don't think there are a lot of spectators also.
@FrostChildCaius that is seah wei wen of For This Cycle. I haven't heard this song before but im pretty sure its his new song! His releasing a full length album soon.
Whats amazing about this ceremony is that it was performed by children and teenagers. How can we go compare with the likes of the parent olympics ceremonies which were performed by adults?
@alyuful The free tickets were only for volunteers, not for performers...I read about the incident on newspaper...I think that people cannot use this incident to criticise the yog or regret volunteering...MCYS said the tickets were posted in batches from Tuesday,Sept 21.The last batch was sent to the post office on Wednesday evening...MCYS has apologised and said that their staff made a mistake in not making sure that there will be sufficient time for the tickets to be sent out...
@SuperStar0311 I must add even those "soldiers" that carried the national and olympic flags are teenagers too. Really in tune with the youth olympic spirit. Time for the youngster to shine.
haters, if you think this is horrible, think again. Singapore is a small country, and we only have two and a half yrs to prepare for this. plus, do u know that we hav to put in more than 100 hrs of rehearsals for YOG ? Btw GREAT JOB , peeps of opening ceremony :)
@MoKsIn1996 I do not know if there is any place that sells the YOG CD...But being a performer at the Opening Ceremony,I was given the YOG CD for free, which contains recollections of the YOG and the full version of Opening and closing ceremony...Maybe if there are people you know that are involved in the ceremonies, you can ask?
looking back on yog in singapore, MACAU, as small as singapore, can bid for the next next YOG. ANY SUPPORTERS? DON'T FORGET, THERE IS HONGKONG TO SHOP AND PARTY IN , the great wall of china to climb, the diving to do off the coasts of hainan, and off course the fabulous LAS VEGAS CASINOES AND SHOWS AND PARADES OF THE STARS to look forward to in miraculous macau. any tips from singaporeans? what a show to look forward to.
The game is currently being held in Singapore till 26 Aug 10. Singapore took 2 years to prepare for the game. Main aim is to have fun with sport for the youth age from 14 to 18 all over the world. But with one set back since the openning as the American youth are hardly seen in the game. Do not know why ? I only saw an America female youth weeping after failing to win the 100m run.............She was 2nd. Sorry.........................
this performance reminds me of how little my country have for me to identify myself with. nothing in this display reminds me of Singapore. The traditional artifacts displayed are long eroded and almost non-existent. The contemporary pop only remind me of how cultureless my people are. However, really great attempt to put up a show to represent Singapore a country who is almost just a pure economomic machine.Hopefully more progress to come for my young nation, Majulah Singapura!
@dlhc30 This opening ceremony is indeed very well done. The stage is spectacular, but mostly it's because of the overall development of Marina Bay which is indeed one of the best bay in the world. However, to say that it is the best ceremony might be pushing it a little. It is very, very difficult to upstage e.g. Beijing in 2008. This is mostly because of the difference in budget. So I'm not sure who are the "some" people who said that this is one of the best olympic opening ceremony in history.
I don't how some ppl compare between beijing and singapore beijing was a summer games thats mean the biggest event in the whole world with long history but singapore organized a very first time event with a lot of expectations and small budjet from IOC so compare it with the next youth games not with a summer games its unfair its kinda silly comparison
@emailmanziman the vatican is a country and it is smaller den singapore and there is this country which is one of the participating one for the YOG is actually smaller den the island pulau tekong of sg and it i so small that it only has one convenient shop and one post office and one hotel in the entire country itself but it is rich.
@redmouthfish: why would u compare.. these two games are of the different scale, totally different. As long as it is a success, that's all we need...everyone knows Singapore will try to bring out the best they have..!
@thai9001 ok, my mistake... i don't mean to compare it like that... i mean the origin of USA and SINGAPORE is the same... but when it comes to loyalty, americans are patriotic and singaporians are too... no comment...
@willyu1 No Problem Hope everyone have fun there! Not all countries that participate in the Singapore YOG is going there, as some nations does not have snow to train their athletes. Some countries are skeptical over the competition level that is going to take place in Singapore. Some even thought that its just a summer camp! So they rather keep their athletes away.. But after the Singapore 2010 YOG, Im sure many countries have regretted their actions.
@alyuful, the singapore post offices is one of the most efficient post office in the world. never mind what others have to say. it's just a bit expensive to mail things out of singapore, that's all. besides, the overdue F1 tickets fiasco comes from other "unknown" sources. perhaps superstar0311 knows . will he tell us?
The Advertiser, an Adelaide tabloid posed this one-page one-liner , " the question on many Australian lips will be: Could we do this?" Australians are sports- crazy, so there're lots of channels that daily cater to sports. The Age, the Daily Telegraph, the Herald Sun and others featured the Games in scoreboards and pictures on the YOG.
@MsEd1988 Well, Singaporean's most common language used is english although the national language is malay because of the diverse races and high percentage of foreigners; can't really expect everybody to learn english, chinese, malay and tamil at the same time. :)
Would india use hindi, english, or provincial official language assuming the host city was not in a hindi speaking province? Same question for phillippines tagalog, indonesia,
Ideally in the philippines, tagalog or filipino language woupd.be in.used for hosting the olympics, but so.far in hosting this sea games 2019, no effort for the filipino language as it continues to promote the 2019 sea games in english only
Vibrant performance! What vivid colors beautiful country! One Gem in the cornicopiea of God's children on Earth. That's what the Olympics are...a celebration of mankind and achievements One world One Race: )
I think people may have forgotten that this is a YOUTH olympic games. Definitely, the contents to it are more likely to be 'child-like' to appeal to the more younger generation. Think before you speak.
@alyuful LOL this is a joke. Did you make this up? Because apparently IOC was extremely impressed. Some even said that it's one of the best olympic ceremonies ever held in olympic history. Dig that. It's all behind the scenes, so don't be superficial.
@AlexHWalker i totally agree with you on the flag bearers part! i just don't see why some of them couldn't follow the person leading them. indeed its a pity that sean kingston did not turn up. its odd to see only 4 continent representatives.
Just wait until Nanjing hosts the next edition in 2014. Only the Chinese have the means to execute such spectacular ceremonies. We haven't forgot Beijing 2008.
@fixingbraincell FYI . all countries hosting the Olympic games have 7 years to prepare , whereas Singapore was only given 2.5 years .Also , in case u did not know , this is the worlds biggest floating platform to date !This is a stage , not a competition venue .Do your homework before you comment base on your shallow knowledge . thanks .

It was fun performing for this Opening event! I was one of the dancers for the Eurasian part!

Since this is the first youth olympics, it makes the opening ceremony very specail

thumbs up if you think singapore did a good job of preparing for YOG although it was a very short time between the choosing of host country and the opening ceremony.
@J0elzzz B5,you?
AweSome!!! The National Anthem at 05:42 make me feel so "D***" Patriotic!!! Superb Angle at which the recording was taken from.
who is the performer and the nameof the song at 9:10?
Weee, Singapore did a very good job in hosting the first youth Olympic! Laughs, haters, seriously think before you comment.
@ScourgeBeetle mmhm! ;D usually i'm not too patriotic, but when events like these take place, it occurs to me that Singapore really is.. just 'WHOA!' haha.
