Thank you so much for the informative podcast! My son (21 years old) informed me of this particular episode... The reason being, my mother had Alzheimer’s along with Parkinson’s. Fortunately, the onset of Alzheimer’s didn’t really affect my mother until she was in her late 70’s early 80’s. She passed away at 85 years old, in 2008. The disease is definitely devastating and sad. However, we were fortunate that it wasn’t a long battle, although at the time, it appeared to be... Just a side note, there were 6 siblings in my mom’s family, 4 out of six had Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The last sibling is still alive at the soon to be young age of 96 :) One of the symptoms that my mother experienced was not mentioned in your podcast. My mother would experience a sense of dizziness, nausea and then pass out/faint. This dizziness began as a one time event, maybe once a year... this began maybe at 75 years old... then it increased to perhaps 2 times a year... then it progressed to more than 2 times a year.... As these dizzy spells or perhaps mini strokes happened, her Alzheimer’s characteristics progressed... Are you aware of these dizzy spells being linked to Alzheimer’s? Another side note, I lost my sense of smell and taste last December, (I’m 58 yrs old soon to be 59 in two weeks) resulting, I thought from a bad cold/cough. Currently my sense of taste and smell is probably at 45-50%. Should I be concerned?? I’m on the fence on preventative measures... I’m afraid to find out if I have the genes.... There’s so much more I can share about my mom, but I will keep this short... Again, thank you very much for the information and your efforts to fight/prevent this disease. 💜
Thank you Aida for sharing your story/family history. Hopefully your taste and sense of smell are back to normal now. Those are closely linked to COVID. I wonder if you ever got tested for it.
Peter, Great meeting Richard. I have inuitively known I need more Answers through perimenopause and when my thyroid went through Hashimoto’s and rising blood sugars with aType1 Mom with a Maternal Uncle and Aunt with type1 then learning through 23&Me I am highest APO.e Risk category (was advised to never put that in a public record or medical notes -another show topic legal, insurance, discrimination) Now going thru Menopause I can not find anyone to answer questions or for support. I found Dale Bredesen and his great work and discussion. I sense your negative feelings on Dale. That is unfortunate. I understand your friendship it are you too biased? Rhonda Patrick did an interview with Dale. I think it would be a worthy discussion. I also want to let someone know I am still having major challenges engaging with Richards prevention center an I live in NY. Also I always get the feeling there is big pharma hanging out around the corner poo pooing anything but singular determinants and not the true multifactoral elements of dementia. We are missing professionals that look at the whole picture and overtime. Nice to hear a personalized story of someone lucky enough to know you two guys but how do the rest of us get engaged?
The comment at the end about wishing we could get $5 billion to get a single drug is infuriating. There will never be one drug. The $ should be spent on Phsician education, prevention programs and expansion of Richard’s prevention program so someone like me trying to engage doesn’t run into roadblocks. Time is of the essence for this of us in the middle of the storm. Join Forces and ease off the ego’s and expand and support those who wish to empower themselves
Good information and discussion. Peter is always so professional and scientific with his statements. I did find the guests somewhat flippant and silly sounding. It's a little difficult to give credence to medical experts who keep saying "like" and continuously straying off the subject with silly banter . Without seeing them, I kept imagining that they were "like" 16 years old. LOL
I actually love the lightness they brought to the discussion of such dire a subject. Yes, Peter kept it professional. However, it would have been very depressingly dark without the other two.
Higher BMI increases risks of Alzheimer when measured 20 years before diagnosis. Yes Alzheimer's patients tend to lose weight and eat less, but at this point they are already affected by the disease. That does not remove earlier life BMI risk increase. If you do not know the literature, don't go around calling actual experts in the field lying or stupid.
Interesting. Thank you Lauren for sharing your story. I'd like to hear more about TBI/CTE.

Why is this not one of the most-watched videos on brain protection.....

Ferritin leves are so important should be 80/90 max
Iron in excess is very damaging

If you did a video podcast i would watch. I think it could really grow your youtube. I won't just listen to an audio podcast on youtube

Good podcast. Unfortunately, the 'cute' repartee was incredibly distracting.
Stupidity is one thing but outright lying is another. Lower BMI found in Alzheimer's patients
