Keep up and don’t mind the negative comments. It will be a wonderful home for you both and every sweat, tear and pain will add to it’s soul. I admire people that see the potential in what others abandon or throw away. It takes a lot of creativity, talent, imagination and hard work. Looking forward seeing the next steps. ❤

I'll add, even if they were to work for years and pay a lot more. There is a very good chance they will still spend even more and put more work in to set the boat up how they want anyways. I've got half a boat buck and two days labor into a perfectly fine traveller to make some usability changes. And that's just the latest in a seasons worth of work and many more boat bucks spent. I, too, have to find a yard that will let me work on it over the off season to reduce the number of unused holes the boat accumulated over the past 40 years. The extra cash spent on the boat only got me something that looked better and could sail in the meantime.

Just ignore the negative comments, the reason you have great content is because you have taken on a massive project that is beyond the scope of most people, I have upmost confidence that you will complete it an have an amazing boat at the end, with the satisfaction of knowing that you have done it yourself.
I'm also fairly sure that the subs and youtube revenue will start rolling in soon. I for one will share your videos far and wide.

The negativity is NOT towards Stuart & Marina, their work -or- their abilities.... the negativity is 100% towards that Gulfstar. Stuart & Marina deserve a better project.

We know where you are at. Last year we bought an orphan. 2 years old. Each time we go to do something we add to the list of stuff to research and find something to make work. It takes a month to get anything done. To add to that, sails got back ordered because of global supply line issues. Each day seems like a challenge just to get simple stu$ done and many parts are obsolete. However we took on the booat knowing this and for a price so good we will be miles ahead when done. The haters a re just jealous. They want you to fail so they justify them not trying. Keep up the positive and you will prevail.

You will always get haters on the internet. You just need to ignore them, delete their comments and stick to your plan. To me the boat looks fine. Just need to renew stuff, fix it up, get to a place where you are happy with it and then start doing the sailing you want. Living on a boat is a very cheap way of living and you have alot of freedom to sail where you want. Some people are able to make enough money on TH-cam along with Patreons, etc to cover their costs of living aboard. Wishing you both the best of luck. Keep the videos coming!

I love the channel, even if I am not following it in order. You two are great fixers which in my opinion is more of what the world needs. Too many just want to consume and toss aside and start over. You two are taking a boat with a nice layout and are going through it top to bottom so that when you are done there will be not a nook or cranny you do not know. I am like that with my cars. I also have a very small 19.5 foot Mariner sailboat that I really like and saved from a 20 year slumber. I have not used it as much as I like but some years I get super back into it. I hope this year to play more with it. Keep going and enjoy the work. These are (believe it or not) the good years you will cherish.

you guys have a big job ahead of you. first you need to research how the keel was constructed on your boat . It looks like it is one that has framed compartments that were originally filled with styrofoam. once you find how it is constructed . if it is a framed keel find the support frame around the wet area. cut the glass veneer off the framed section , be sure you cut inside the framing . it's easy to take more off but hard to put it back. Once the cover layer of glass is off you can see how bad the damage inside the keel is . If your lucky the framing will be solid. let everything dry out really well and reinforce everything with glass. use chop cloth, it holds a lot of resin which is what you want, 1 layer chop and at least 1 layer of weave. once everything is reinforced and dry use closed celled styrofoam to fill the void. you need a nice fit to the frame. hopefully you could get the outer layer off in one piece. repair the outer layer , on the inside of the glass (sheet). again use chop and epoxy. bevel the edges of the outside layer of the framed section and the out side sheet you are attaching so you have a large angle on each side and fill with glass and epoxy to make a smooth outer surface. you need to check the rest of the keel for water. I have been involved in repairing 2 boats that had this type of keel problem and there were always more than 1 compartment of the keel flooded

Yeah they won't open, but will get you water tight and time to save up for windows.
For cooking you will need companion way open.
My wife would kill me if I took on a job like this. But I like a challenge.
She wants to kill me now and we have now where near the work to do.
Lucky for us we can use our boat.

something given is treated by most with no respect and will be found lying out in the yard rotting away.

hey guys keep up the good work, the easy fix for your window holes id to glue the timber strips back into the gap in the hull but leave them sticking proud of the glass to take up most of the space then just put two layers of fiberglass over them to water proof the timber and strengthen the hole, that will give you a nice waterproof face3 to seal against. Never mind the negative comments opinions are like a**holes every one has one and some of them stink.

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya,
We bought some hardwood strips for this job but we didn't like it. So with super thick epoxy we filled between the two layers around the porthole. Now we'll sand and stick the porthole back in. We'll see how it goes before we move on to the next.

Many many years ago as a teenager, I joined my father early one morning as he tried to help a fellow work colleague who had bought an old wooden yacht called Marigold. A few early morning trips and we finally managed to get her afloat.. alas people were mostly against him, and he ultimately moved it one day to the Isle of Wight at Wotton Creek. There it stayed until one new owner could see what the previous could see. A few years of hard work and Marigold was restored to her former glory.. my part in that yacht was small, but I am glad I took part. You are on the right path despite the doom mongers and ultimately you will know every squeak and rattle. Keep ploughing forward. :-)

Why don't you go down the Patreon route now? I'm sure you'd do well with the amount of subs and views you're getting.

It's an interesting project and I'm sure you'll get a lot more support as you get a bit more momentum.
One thing that would make a big difference is Stuart needs to stop mumbling, I can barely understand half of what you say ! I realise you don't really like talking to the camera but you are getting better at it and if you can stick with it (practice) you will get much better but one of the main things that puts viewers off is not hearing what the hosts are saying clearly.
To be successful at YT you need to engage the audience and that means being heard and being understood, it's not just English speaking people who watch these videos. 👍

Love your channel.. just a tip.. for best results wth epoxy.. accurate measuring gives you uniform curing time and maximum bonding / and hardness.. I use a simple set of digital scales (palm size) (cost Aust $10) place cling film on to protect.. weigh the Part A and B according to the specified ratios.. West System (here in Aust) 2:1 so maths is easy.. use 3 cups 1) for part A 2) for Part B and combine in cup 3) Invert cups 1 and 2 after pouring out into cup 3 and you can literally use cups for months obviously not cup 3 (mix cup) accuracy being the goal.. label cups so as not confuse.... love ur attitude
