The Myanmar series is probably the most uplifting you guys have done. Thank you. Buddhists meditate on the feeling of loving kindness. Myanmar is a nation that is dominantly Theravada Buddhist (so am I). I am so moved by the genuine happiness and innocence of these people, and I think the Buddha's teachings had a lot to do with it. The rest of the world has much to learn about the real meaning of life from these beautiful folks. Have you ever seen kids that are so happy and fearless? People who are completely and authentically humble and quick to show their happiness and contentment? Even though they are Buddhists, they exemplify everything that Jesus taught about how to live. Western civilization could use a serious lesson about what is really important, and it isn't money, power and wealth! I wonder if Kara and Nate got a life-changing lesson from their brief experience there. Excellent and important blogging you guys! Kara (and Nate, too), bless you for feeling the all the positive energy with your open heart. You just met people who live as we were meant to live, IMHO. There is a profound lesson we all should learn from the people of Myanmar.

This is amazing. Those people were just so wonderful and lovely. Between the hilarious pottery maker lady who threw shade at Nate, to the lovely old gal who sold Kara that mini paddle, I just love this place and it's people.
It literally broke my heart that the grandparents spent $6,000, their life savings, on this little party that would likely cost us Westerners just a few hundred dollars. Seeing things like this always puts the things we take for granted into a more realistic perspective. ❤

This vlog brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing your experience with this beautiful community. While many may feel anger that you are visiting a country with such a horrific government what many seem to fail to get is how Western Capatalism profits from the traditional artisans. One dollar for a pot that is sold for well over 200 in the USA is outrageous, saddening and beyond comprehension. The people are not their government. Thank you again - you two are so genuine and so amazing.

    • @ellisberg

Monica, feel sorry for those who exploit these people. You won't find them to be as happy and content as those who you see as being exploited. Those who profit off these people are miserable and unhappy souls in comparison, and they do not know the path to wisdom and serenity. So, the exploiters will always be the sad, angry and greedy people who suffer the most inside because of simple ignorance about what is truly valuable. They will never look as happy as these people unless the exploiters are feigning a smile. The Burmese people clearly know the secrets to a happy life; those who exploit and profit off of them don't. It is probably best to take pity on the soulless wretches who don't know or understand the true nature of living. (And, for the record, capitalism has absolutely nothing to do with it... the unenlightened who seek power over others always find a way to be harmful and malevolent).

Isn't great to go somewhere and be basically the only tourists in town? Well done to show the real people and their way of life. Back in the 1990s, we were in a country similar then to what is Myanmar is now and we also bought a souvenir that came with recycled newspaper made in a carry bag like you did. over twenty years later we still have the carry bag as the souvenir.

Like other people are saying, Kara and Nate are something else among other travel vlog youtubers. My thought is, it's because you don't exhibit fancy pancy stuff, mostly simple and normal gestures from every day life which make most of your fans can relate and feel connected.....
May be because you guys are down to earth. Always thrill to watch you.....!

I am so pleased with this video, it shows genuine happiness that you guys are experiencing! Growing up in the states I’ve never really gotten the to know how life was back in homeland. Growing up I’ve always been proud of where I came from soon to realize that not a lot people were aware of where Burma was. I thought I knew the country but little did I know I was just starching a tiny bit of it. I would like to go back one day and just explore eggs country because there is so much to discover!

Myanmar: Shameful anniversary highlights lack of accountability for atrocities against Rohingya
'This anniversary marks a shameful milestone. By its continued failure to hold to account those responsible for crimes against humanity, the international community risks sending the message that Myanmar’s military will not only enjoy impunity but will be allowed to commit such atrocities again. We must not let this happen.'
'Lack of political will, not a lack of evidence, is at the root of the international community’s inaction. It is undeniable that Myanmar’s security forces committed crimes against humanity against the Rohingya. But while the international community drags its feet deciding what to do about it, vital evidence risks disappearing or being destroyed.'
      Tirana Hassan, Crisis Response Director

I am embarrassed that your Indi ia trip turned out like that...I hope one day you will be able to see the other side of it too.
Lots of love and good wishes from India.
P.S- I am in college right now. And me and my friend want to travel like you people but we need to find ways out. It's hard when you are from a middle class family. For now we are working hard to study good and improve our skills in whatever we are doing. But we are just so unsure about how to get it done. Once I started my own home baking small business ,but had to quit it because of study and all.
But when I see your videos I just get so much of inspiration to hope for the best.

Chase for Adventure man, as a typical Myanmar, we just hate the foreign policies of US and UK but we don’t hate people of those countries. We have enough teaching from our religion to differentiate good and bad things.

      In general, its safe politically.
The conflicted area is at the western-most border line a few hundred miles with Bangladesh.
The travellers are in the main land thousand miles away. Safer than other most crowded popular international destinations coz its rural, not crowded, but just village people and normal people earning for their livelihoods and struggling their daily lives here.
Not whole country is at war! Just at the rims.
Main land is politically safe but like most other cities, there are thieves, mugs, and other usual crimes of human societies.

Plz experience urself myanmar culture, lovely and authentic, down-to-earth and so rich as we have over 130 ethnicities and cultures, most benevolent and generous.
no pretense, no propagandas, and just not enough marketing. Maybe covered by other propaganda like whole country was at war and all people were war mongers and all devils.
Myanmar people are friendly and helpful wearing smiles whenever they see foreign tourists or are asked for info or help. They never hesitate to help. People are just normal people. They would like to have a peaceful life, a safe life, a sufficien income to sustain their lives and a happy family life, and ability to do good deeds and contributions at least to their family, and community and society as a while.
People are just people but these are with love and kindness at heart taught and imprinted by their 2000-years-old culture. Benevolence and helpfulness are innate in blood line. But people are just people not saints.

@@thawmawsoeaung9174, well said! Americans (as well as all people) who visit Burma would do well to learn WHY people in Myanmar remain happy. I believe strongly that it is from the Buddha's dharma and I was happy to see someone reveal the "secret".
