    Hi Blake : I have 30 years of experience in the geology field. I finished my degree at Ohio University 1982. I love to learn and re-learning too.If I compare your explanation with my teachers with master and Phd , now I can compare that your explanation is 100 times easier to understand . I would say that learning has been progressing and your method is very efficient .Congratulation! for this recreation .Your great and easy explanation can be understood without any complication .It was very difficult to comprehend in the past these simple lessons including azimuth and quadrant and the orientation of the plane like crystallographic axis orientation .Thank you very much!

    Hi there Blake! Thank Goodness I found this channel. We're having a 5 week preparation for fieldwork in the French Alps (4 weeks), and today was day one of the preparation. I didn't understand anything at all. We simply had 7 assignments. I couldn't do any of them, because I didn't understand anything at all! And we had 7 freaking hours for the assignments.... I'm dying! Thanks for the video's. They're a life-saver.

    8:08. Should that be S 5°E??? I am confuse

    • @BSplitt
      @BSplitt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kaishu, the video correctly lists it as S 85° E. You must start at the South direction and then measure the angle measurement eastward of South.

  • @annagrendys6831
    @annagrendys6831 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you get from a strike 000 to 040 and from dip 60 to dip30? Was this just an example? I’m confused

    • @BSplitt
      @BSplitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is just a different example! The plane that I start referencing at 15:33 has no relation to either picture above.

    Hi Blake
    I thank you so much because your video helps me understand well the stereographic projection of line and plane.
    I got a question for you, for the plane reading (Strike, Dip angle), is it the true Strike or the Dip direction that you mean? I am kinda confused for this one
    Thank you in advance for your assistance, looking forward to your explanation :)

    Hi Blake, How did you know the trend was 200 and not 20??

    • @BSplitt
      @BSplitt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trend line points in the down-dip direction!

      Hi rikalave, I used the book "Structural Analysis and Synthesis" by Stephen Rowland et al. I thought it was an excellent laboratory manual. This book is cited in my second video: th-cam.com/video/-TPje1Ef-x4/w-d-xo.html.

      Agreed. This is SUCH a good textbook!!! I'm using it to help me plan the next 3rd yr structural geology class.
      "Stereographic Projection Techniques for Geologists and Civil Engineers" By: Richard J. Lisle, Peter R. Leyshon is also very good. This was my bible when I was a student. It explains every method and technique you need to do on a stereonet.
