How to determine the line of intersection and the angle between two planes, using a stereonet (Schmidt, equal-area net).
NOTE: I misspoke at (at least) 2 points during this construction. At 4:02 and 4:35, I referred to "great circles" as "primitive great circles". The "primitive great circle" is the circumference of the stereonet.
This video employs what I refer to as the “American right-arm rule” for strike and dip of planes; looking to the strike direction, the plane dips in the direction of the observer’s right arm. This is very different from the traditional “British right-hand rule”.
This video was produced during the fall of 2020, at the heart of COVID, as part of my effort to teach structural geology online.
