We have steak probably about once every three weeks. We buy them when they go on sale and barbecue them at home. I marinate and rotate them periodically for several hours in a ziploc bag in the fridge before cooking them. We have them with baked potatoes, maybe some sauteed mushrooms and/or caramelized onions and a vegetable or salad.
My "go to" spot for 45 years whenever I'm in Palm Springs. A well kept old style restaurant with a fabulous ambiance and beautiful decor. I haven't eaten a steak in 54 years after going vegetarian in 1969. Interestingly though I consume lots of nuts and use pepper daily, I've never had an issue with kidney stones. I often think how we are all made of the same stuff and yet react so differently to things we eat. For instance I can die from consuming a banana, the reaction is so severe in my brain. Ah! but leave a few mysteries to be explored in eternity.
So true Donn. It's very bizarre. Jim loves eating bananas every day, but when I suggested going out for a banana shake it nearly made him puke. He gets sick if he eats bananas in anything. Sorry you can't eat them at all. Thanks for sharing.

I wish that I could add a picture because I was having a ribeye for lunch while watching this! If I could, I would eat steak and lobster for every meal. My husband and I used to eat out at least 3x a week when we were both working. Now we prefer to eat at home and go out to dinner maybe every 6 weeks or so. Thank you for sharing your dining experience with us. Like Steve, I went many years without eating steak, but since it is a favorite of my carnivore husband, I have come to enjoy it in recent years. We eat steak a couple of times a year, usually on special occasions. Next month is his birthday and he has already requested dinner with friends at a local steakhouse. I usually get the ribeye, with a Caesar salad and baked potato with sour cream. His favorite is the prime rib, medium well with a salad with ranch dressing (no croutons) and broccoli. He likes to avoid carbs, so he does not get the potato. Like Steve and Jim, we prefer to eat in the afternoon, but we can only get the prime rib at night. We also like Mexican food. Maybe you can share a dinner at your favorite Mexican restaurant. I would be interested in seeing what you and Jim like.

Great looking meals. We don't even have a place here where you can get anything as good as what you two had. My last steak had to be in 2018 at our only steak place. Got bad, rude service so never went back. One thing I can say is I should have eaten before watching this video. Yes my mouth was watering. I was kind of pricey but looked like it was well worth the price.
I love all your videos, Steve, and I love when you take Jim along for the trip. We are in Wisconsin, so meat is fairly cheap up here. It's practically on the hoof here, so we pay about half what you do. We also had steak for dinner on Valentines Day. We don't eat steak very often, only for special occasions. Grilled chicken sandwiches at Chick Fil e are my favorite for dieting. I throw the bun away & add baby tomatoes on top. I’ve lost 15 pounds. It’s easy and convenient. McDonald’s fish sandwiches are also my favorite with only one bun. 👍😻
That steak looks soo good. I'm a beef eater, as I'm not a big fan of chicken. Last weekend I did purchase a Filet Mignon package at Costco, so on Valentine's Day I made one at home. I do a fair job with it too. I just found out where some of those restaurants are, yesterday afternoon as I did a twilight bus ride tour for modernism week and we did drive by Billy Reeds. One thing I don't really understand restaurants and their large servings of salads prior to the meal as if I ate much of the salad I wouldn't have any room for the main meal. I find steak very expensive. My partner will cook steak at home and only a few times a year because I just don’t have the taste for it. I do like certain beef appetizers or if it is smothered in mushrooms if we go out but usually go chicken or pork simply because I like it better. Happy valentines to both of you!

We probably eat steak out every 6 months. In the Summer my husband will buy steaks at Sam's Club and we grill out. Eating out is expensive especially if you have a couple adult beverages. Ive noticed the quality go down though as the cost go up. We did go out on Valentines in the evening and was surprised the restaurant wasn't packed. Hope you enjoyed your day!

We enjoyed Billy Reeds for our anniversary, I had the prime rib,and baked potato with collar greens and a salad,the wife had a broild salmon,sweet potato,collar greens and a salad.The food was very good and the portions large.A nice atmosphere for dinning.
HI Steve ! I go once a week or twice a week at the mexican place to eat ! Going on Saturday and get always get a cheese enchlotta cheese chillisreanos rice beans flour totreras chips salsa the spicy kind and two lemonades large and water ! I rarely go out any other kind of places to eat but once a month I go with LInda to Peguas for breakfast or lunch and its not mexican so go out 5 \times in a month but do get a cheese qauter pounder fries iced coffee carmel at Mcdolanalds once a week or when I go with Saha transportation and love thrift stores twiice a month !
Hello Steve and Jim! I am so happy that you two were able to head out for a nice lunch! Yes...I love steak! I have somewhat of a linebacker build, so I could definitely eat that whole meal that you and Jim had. I had a fillet mignon about 3 weeks ago. We commissioned our part time neighbors behind us last summer to build some permanent mounted cabinetry (the downside of a 135 year old mining town house is it has no storage; and we've been mitigating it, so far, with hutches). So, the neighbors did a special trip back from TX to install these cabinets about a month ago. When they were done, my wife and I took them (it is an older husband/wife team) out to a really nice meal. I have been doing a Mediterranean diet since February. I guess I am about a 85-90% abiding to it hehehe. So, I only have steak about once per month. $80-$100 is pretty common for my wife and I eating out in our local town. Have a great evening!

One of the things that has drawn me to Palm Springs is that everybody I've talked to has been so nice (and I'll talk to whoever wants to talk!). I do hope it is a condo that has social functions and such. Having said that, we will be some of "those people" that are in and out of town only occasionally. So, I'd understand it if they have a bit of standoffness.

I go to Billy Reed's every time I'm in Palm Springs! You have to go if you're in town! The food is good & the decor is interesting. We mostly visit for breakfast, but have had lunch there a few times too. I'm in my mid 50's & I often feel like the youngest person there at lunch time. 😁
I eat steak about once a month. I grew up on steak but my husband didn’t so he doesn’t like it as much. We are going to a nice steak house for our anniversary next month.
I shared a video of one of his homes on this channel last year. That's a good question about where he ate. I never thought of that. Frank Sinatra was known to have a few favorite restaurants here in Palm Springs, but I don't recall anyone mentioning Elvis having any. Maybe he ordered in. Nathan he pretty stayed at his home at 845 W Chino Canyon Rd in Palm Springs and did not go out much from what I know. You have to remember Elvis slept during the day and was up all night until the early mornings so much was closed by the time he got up.
We eat a steak once a week whether we grill it ourselves or we go to the local steakhouse . We grill food outside no matter what time of the year it is no matter what the temperature is . grilled food is the best
Wow, you must have a nice grill. Ours is so hard to clean and such a hassle I rarely grill. We get a lot of wind and fine dust gets on the grill and it's difficult to light, etc. Glad you don't have those issues USA!

Hello , I am not a big meat eater , I like chicken , fish wise as a treat battered halibut but when it comes to hamburgers , fast food restaurants in Canada Harvey's have the best flame grilled 100% Canadian Angus beef burgers ! I have tried veggie burgers and find the texture to mushy ....
The veggie burgers definitely don't compare, but for me, the worst part is that they are almost all made from Soy beans, which I can't eat. Thanks for sharing Janine!

This was fun to watch; more so because Jim loved his meal so much! He cleaned his plate! I am more like you Steve. Half the food goes home with me. Whoa, wish I could take home some banana bread! Haven't had that in years either. I probably haven't had steak or red meat in at least 20 years. I might have chicken once or twice a month. I eat fresh fish, at least three times a week - fresh salmon, in addition to sardines and good tuna from off the coast of Spain. I would rather eat good healthy food than buy other stuff I don't need like more clothes or shoes.

That meal looked so yummy!!!!! I am hungry for steak now!!!! I buy a steak about every 2 or 3 months and I cook it myself!!!!It cost about 25 dollars at the grocery store for a small one.
That looked yummy.....regular diet is the way to go. I understand about the kidney stones though, moderation is the key. Just eat a high fat food with the foods and drink that have high oxalates....that will help.
A very nice outing! I’m almost your age and Billy Reeds seems like the kind of restaurant I would like with quality and value but not trendy. I used to eat steak but prefer mostly vegan meals now. Glad I don’t have kidney stones and hope you find a diet where you don’t have to worry about that in the future.

I went there my last trip down there, a good friend took me. Just a little steak info, sirloin steaks have less fat than a chicken breast. There's a Texas roadhouse in Indio and they usually open for lunch Thursday and Friday and Saturday,
Steve I have heard you mention that you have significant heartburn . I had issues with it myself but now use Omeprazole as needed , it has made a huge difference in my life. Not to mention stomach acid can cause problems in your esophagus. My best to you and Jim stay well 😊
My bf and I went to Billy Reed's about a month ago when we were in Palm Springs. It was a great restaurant with good food. I'm with you though. I don't care if I ever eat steak as long as I can have chicken.
I read today that bottle water can cause heartburn. I too suffer from heartburn and found that my Walmart brand water causes my heartburn and I should drink alkaline water. I’m trying that out and will let you know. Love your vids.
Wow, yes, I would love to know Jayne. I don't buy much bottled water, but I do fill up old bottles from our refrigerator filtered water. Never thought of that as a cause. You never know!
Yum!. That food looks great! We have steak every Saturday night. My husband and adult kids have rib steaks and I have a small filet which I prefer. The only problem with going g out to eat other then the cost of course is the portions. I just can't eat that much any more. Steve I hope that you have seen a gastroenterologist about your heartburn. I worked as the charge nurse at a GI clinic for many years. Untreated reflux can lead to very serious problems including cancer. I don't mean to alarm you but I am just concerned.

I find steak very expensive. My partner will cook steak at home and only a few times a year because I just don’t have the taste for it. I do like certain beef appetizers or if it is smothered in mushrooms if we go out but usually go chicken or pork simply because I like it better. Happy valentines to both of you!

We probably eat steak out every 6 months. In the Summer my husband will buy steaks at Sam's Club and we grill out. Eating out is expensive especially if you have a couple adult beverages. Ive noticed the quality go down though as the cost go up. We did go out on Valentines in the evening and was surprised the restaurant wasn't packed. Hope you enjoyed your day!

We enjoyed Billy Reeds for our anniversary, I had the prime rib,and baked potato with collar greens and a salad,the wife had a broild salmon,sweet potato,collar greens and a salad.The food was very good and the portions large.A nice atmosphere for dinning.

HI Steve ! I go once a week or twice a week at the mexican place to eat ! Going on Saturday and get always get a cheese enchlotta cheese chillisreanos rice beans flour totreras chips salsa the spicy kind and two lemonades large and water ! I rarely go out any other kind of places to eat but once a month I go with LInda to Peguas for breakfast or lunch and its not mexican so go out 5 \times in a month but do get a cheese qauter pounder fries iced coffee carmel at Mcdolanalds once a week or when I go with Saha transportation and love thrift stores twiice a month !

Yes...I love steak! I have somewhat of a linebacker build, so I could definitely eat that whole meal that you and Jim had. I had a fillet mignon about 3 weeks ago. We commissioned our part time neighbors behind us last summer to build some permanent mounted cabinetry (the downside of a 135 year old mining town house is it has no storage; and we've been mitigating it, so far, with hutches). So, the neighbors did a special trip back from TX to install these cabinets about a month ago. When they were done, my wife and I took them (it is an older husband/wife team) out to a really nice meal.
I have been doing a Mediterranean diet since February. I guess I am about a 85-90% abiding to it hehehe. So, I only have steak about once per month.
$80-$100 is pretty common for my wife and I eating out in our local town.

Having said that, we will be some of "those people" that are in and out of town only occasionally. So, I'd understand it if they have a bit of standoffness.

I have steak a couple times a month. Pork steak 2 times a week. Living in Iowa pork is less expensive. My goodness your lunch was a bit on the expensive side.
My house is paid for so what you pay monthly, I pay in a year.

I go to Billy Reed's every time I'm in Palm Springs! You have to go if you're in town! The food is good & the decor is interesting.
We mostly visit for breakfast, but have had lunch there a few times too. I'm in my mid 50's & I often feel like the youngest person there at lunch time. 😁

I shared a video of one of his homes on this channel last year. That's a good question about where he ate. I never thought of that. Frank Sinatra was known to have a few favorite restaurants here in Palm Springs, but I don't recall anyone mentioning Elvis having any. Maybe he ordered in. Nathan he pretty stayed at his home at 845 W Chino Canyon Rd in Palm Springs and did not go out much from what I know. You have to remember Elvis slept during the day and was up all night until the early mornings so much was closed by the time he got up.

We eat a steak once a week whether we grill it ourselves or we go to the local steakhouse . We grill food outside no matter what time of the year it is no matter what the temperature is . grilled food is the best
Wow, you must have a nice grill. Ours is so hard to clean and such a hassle I rarely grill. We get a lot of wind and fine dust gets on the grill and it's difficult to light, etc. Glad you don't have those issues USA!

Hello , I am not a big meat eater , I like chicken , fish wise as a treat battered halibut but when it comes to hamburgers , fast food restaurants in Canada Harvey's have the best flame grilled 100% Canadian Angus beef burgers ! I have tried veggie burgers and find the texture to mushy ....
The veggie burgers definitely don't compare, but for me, the worst part is that they are almost all made from Soy beans, which I can't eat. Thanks for sharing Janine!

This was fun to watch; more so because Jim loved his meal so much! He cleaned his plate! I am more like you Steve. Half the food goes home with me. Whoa, wish I could take home some banana bread! Haven't had that in years either. I probably haven't had steak or red meat in at least 20 years. I might have chicken once or twice a month. I eat fresh fish, at least three times a week - fresh salmon, in addition to sardines and good tuna from off the coast of Spain. I would rather eat good healthy food than buy other stuff I don't need like more clothes or shoes.

That looked yummy.....regular diet is the way to go. I understand about the kidney stones though, moderation is the key. Just eat a high fat food with the foods and drink that have high oxalates....that will help.

A very nice outing! I’m almost your age and Billy Reeds seems like the kind of restaurant I would like with quality and value but not trendy. I used to eat steak but prefer mostly vegan meals now. Glad I don’t have kidney stones and hope you find a diet where you don’t have to worry about that in the future.
Thanks for sharing George. Sadly, once you get kidney stones they seem to be with you for life. I do take medication for them, which seems to have helped a lot.

Just a little steak info, sirloin steaks have less fat than a chicken breast. There's a Texas roadhouse in Indio and they usually open for lunch Thursday and Friday and Saturday,

Steve I have heard you mention that you have significant heartburn . I had issues with it myself but now use Omeprazole as needed , it has made a huge difference in my life. Not to mention stomach acid can cause problems in your esophagus. My best to you and Jim stay well 😊

I read today that bottle water can cause heartburn. I too suffer from heartburn and found that my Walmart brand water causes my heartburn and I should drink alkaline water. I’m trying that out and will let you know. Love your vids.
Wow, yes, I would love to know Jayne. I don't buy much bottled water, but I do fill up old bottles from our refrigerator filtered water. Never thought of that as a cause. You never know!
Yum!. That food looks great! We have steak every Saturday night. My husband and adult kids have rib steaks and I have a small filet which I prefer. The only problem with going g out to eat other then the cost of course is the portions. I just can't eat that much any more. Steve I hope that you have seen a gastroenterologist about your heartburn. I worked as the charge nurse at a GI clinic for many years. Untreated reflux can lead to very serious problems including cancer. I don't mean to alarm you but I am just concerned.
