Remscheid is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is, after Wuppertal and Solingen, the third-largest municipality in Bergisches Land, being located on the northern edge of the region, on the south side of the Ruhr area.
Remscheid had around 109,000 inhabitants in 2015. At the end of 2019 it had 113,703 inhabitants.
What to see in one day in Remscheid?
•The Evangelical City Church is the main Protestant church of Remscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of two churches in the Remscheid town parish, which belongs to the Lennep parish of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland.
•The Remscheid town hall is the town hall of the independent Bergen city of Remscheid.
It is the official residence of the mayor, the meeting place of the city council and the seat of several city administration authorities.
The three-wing, three-and-a-half-story building was built in the neo-Renaissance style. The facade is clad in greywacke, sandstone and basalt. The front view is dominated by the massive, 58 meter high town hall tower. Together with the nearby Remscheid water tower, the “Waterbölles”, it also shapes the city’s silhouette.
•The Teo Otto Theater is the municipal theater in Remscheid. It is the largest and most important of the three theaters in the city and is located 200 meters from Remscheid town hall.
•Lennep is the second largest district in Remscheid with 25,440 inhabitants (as of 2008). As a member of the Hanseatic League and a Prussian district town, Lennep was for a long time one of the most important cities in the Bergisches Land.
Lennep has a basic medieval old town, which is one of the selected 35 historic city centers in North Rhine-Westphalia. 116 houses in the city center, including many Bergisch Baroque buildings that were built after the city fire of 1746, are listed buildings.
