Not being able to put yourself in someone else's shoes. That's called low emotional intelligence and its a problem...you should probably look into that.

I remember my mom raised me to not only save my “virginity” for my husband but also my “first kiss”. I remember the day I finally kissed my boyfriend (who is now my husband). We had been seriously dating with the intent for marriage for 7 months at the time. I was 19 and my husband was 18. It was a simple sweet make out with the love of my life who I had fallen deeply in love with. Neither of us knew what we were doing but it was very innocent. I came home that night around midnight and my mom came into my bedroom, sat on my bed and looked at me blankly and asked “did you kiss him?” I could never lie to my mom… (especially not back then) and so I told her yes. She stood up, walked towards my bedroom door, turned around just before exiting and said “I’m very disappointed in you”. I cried like a baby… feeling like something had just died inside of me that I could never get back
Oh gosh this hit home. I had a similar experience with my mum, who was raised Catholic but never actually carried the pratices further than her childhood, the beliefs however were burnt into her and passively pushed onto her kids. She didn't talk to me for a week after I told her in confidence I had sex for the first time (I was 18). I hope you didn't carry the guilt with you for too long, it was such an innocent thing I really feel for you.
@@kla9914 it took a little bit. But it helped me as an adult to grow and decide what I wanted to believe and hold on to as an adult. I was able to decide what hurt me and what boundaries to set. It was healthy for me in the long run

I understand when she talks about being raised in a super Christian culture, most of the time we feel guilty for having sex (no matter what age) about something that is natural.
For sure, the guilt trip is horrible. I've not even dared going there untill I was over 21... and years later I heard that my older brother went to a sex worker to lose his virginity because he was too afraid to ask his gf at the time because of the whole stigma around it.

Can we take a moment to think about how cruel the discussions around sex are in religion, particularly in the Abrahamic religions? I left the church (I'm EXMO) when I was 15, moved out of my parent's house as soon as I turned 18. I am now 36, years of therapy later, and I still deal with shame, embarrassment, and body issues stemming from religion trauma.
Sorry you had to go through that, religion is a touchy topic but you should 100% feel comfortable about the body you’re on. No religion should place a value on your body depending on if your pure or not. Live your life in a way you can be proud of and not anyone else.

I'm sincerely awfully sorry to hear about your trauma. No one deserves to go through it. However, it does sound like you're generalising Christian values of chastity on all the other Abrahamic religions. In Judaism, it's considered a mitzvah (blessing) to have pleasurable sex and some rabbinical scholars have compared orgasms to experiencing a taste of heaven. Not to say there are no oppressive views on sex or just general misogyny in Jewish communities (or Muslim or Baha'i, but I'm not going to speak for them as I'm not a part of them)... But when most people say "religion stigmatises sex", they're thinking of the ways that Christianity is shit with sex, and generalising it to the other Abrahamic religions without fully knowing them.

Purity culture has such detrimental effects. I wish education was promoted in religious communities so their reasoning behind younger people abstaining is so they avoid STIs and STDs as well as unwanted pregnancy.

I am sorry to all those who have felt guilt and shame by their religious institutes. While I personally am waiting til marriage with my partner, it is not out of fear or guilt. It is because we were raised to view sex as something so bonding and intimate that you’d only want to do it with your spouse. I couldn’t imagine being that vulnerable with just anyone (not everyone views it that way of course). And I definitely think it’s pretty harming to put just a woman’s virginity on a pedestal, it goes both ways I feel. Great video for discussion 👍🏼.
The thing I wonder about people who make this decision is ...do you worry you and your future spouse may not be sexually compatible? I will not lie and say it isn’t something in the back of my mind. Here’s the thing though, we don’t know what our sexual preferences are just yet. Neither of us have experienced that aspect of life. We have amazing communication and that is a key factor. Also, talking about sex before getting married is a must, esp if you’re waiting. Having realistic expectations too. It is probably going to be a bit awkward in the beginning, but you work through it together. Another thing, while sex can be a very important factor in a relationship (some people don’t prioritize this and that’s totally fine) I’m not marrying him for that reason. I would marry him regardless of sex, because we make each other better people, make each other laugh, etc. Also there are going to be times where sex is going to be on the back burner, like right after having a baby, long distance, whatever the reason and we’ve already had experience with waiting and still being happy and content. Hope that gives you some insight 😅.

my ex bf and I at the time we’re both 17. We were in high school and one day we decided to be each other’s first time after school. It lasted a total of probably 20 seconds and then nothing happened after and I just cried in his bed and he held me. I am 22 year old, good looking, handsome guy, topper in school and college and currently focusing on my career. I never proposed any girl. Instead ‘I got proposals from 3 girls’ and many indirect proposals from several girls but I rejected their all proposals with respect because i have some morals, ethics and rational thinking. I believe first to focus on education, career. I don’t want to betray my parents by having love affair at the time of studies and personality development.
So my point is i am ‘proud virgin’ by my choice. I believe in marriage system. I want to love only one person and stay loyal for lifetime to that person. in future my wife is going to first love for me (emotionally and physically). So why should I don’t expect same from her?
I am not judging anyone. But in some youtube videos,articles they all are only getting side of non-virgins and they are imposing non-virgins on virgins. They are asking virgins to have big heart and accepts directly non-virgin, why ? If loosing virginity was their choice then its our choice to reject them. They don’t have right to judge us.
I looks at this things rationally . And in my personal life, I am behaving in the same way that I expect from my future spouse (not having a past love and physical relationship with someone else). So my expectation is based on equality. I like to think rationally and keep modern approach.

Try to understand our point of view. Get one fictional example. If one Girl is having all random relationships and at the same time one boy is struggling to achieve something in life and he stays single for that. After he became well settled he wants same virgin wife as he is. And after all random casual/serious relationships now that girl wants serious,caring,well settled guy. Whats now ? They both deserve good partner. But no one can impose that girl on that boy. Its their choice. Every relationship should start with honesty and truth. Each and everyone has right to choose their life partner according to their preferences and values.

I hate their hypocrisy that at one side they support personal choice but at other side they are opposing and denying totally the personal choice of choosing life partner on our personal terms and criteria.
I think people like me or people who have attitude like me don’t have representation.
I am against judging someone and against extremist of both sides cause I would like to think rationally..
I don’t judge anyone and totally respect each and everyone’s past and their personal and private life. I am no one to make statement on it . But their are many hypocrites who are indirectly making atmosphere In the name of ‘past is past’ against us where we just cannot have our terms. If we put our terms or criteria then they are ready to attack and comment on us that ‘we are narrow minded’. With this attitude they are making environment of inequality where we just can’t demand or expect like “if our partner is going to first love for us then why we should not expect same from him/her ?”
I am against imposing opinions, defaming our personal criteria and purposefully making unfavourable atmosphere related us and our opinions. I believe in ‘live and let live’

I have a lot of passion about this topic because even at my age I have a hard time wrapping my head around the need for purity culture, so I apologize in advance for this long answer. Pretty much across the board, from my experience living in the US and as a Christian, losing your virginity before marriage is an absolute no-no. Even as a casual Christian, if you lose your virginity, you just try not to tell people. Purity culture, also in my experience, is also heavily emphasized in cultural churches. At a religious conference I went to when I was younger, the girls and boys were separated, and the female leaders (not pastors but just women in their 20s-30s) told us that we would have sexual urges and to deal with them, we should pray, meditate, have someone hold us accountable to avoid stumbling into sexual sin, and to potentially eat chocolate (because supposedly this removes the urge of feeling sexual frustration). This was already a crazy development at our age because no one ever talked about the sexual desires of women in a more casual setting like this. I'm in my early 20s and I do believe in Christianity, going to church, and loving others as Jesus would, but even as a more liberal person - I still have a lot of sexual shame and do not want to participate in the act of penetrative sex. Even people I know who are engaged are not supposed to live with their significant other before getting married because they are NOT allowed to have sex, as per the church and their families. My cousins are engaged and will have their fiances over, and our parents assume that my cousins and their fiances are sleeping in separate rooms...sorry long ramble to say, the younger generation (for people I know) holds less traditional values but there is definitely a lot of sexual shame all around. Like my parents would never let me travel alone with my boyfriend (if they knew I had one lol).
