yes, nobody ever uses that "awful Jazzmaster trem"...except for Swervedriver, Elvis Costello, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr., Curve, The Cure, Alcest, Wilco, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, etc etc. seriously, it takes ten minutes to set one up properly. it's basically the same as a Bigsby, except the spring is inside the body. if someone doesn't like the rocking bridge (which admittedly gives some people issues), it's easy to either tape the posts or just install one of the many aftermarket options. the offset trem absolutely works, it's just different than a Strat style trem and isn't meant for the same kind of abuse.
I actually far prefer the Jazzmaster trem to the strat trem. The action is a bit slower and more precise, the arm is longer and more comfortable, and it strays in tune extremely well if it's set up properly. I do prefer something like a mastery bridge or mustang bridge, though.
Excellent bands sir. These guys here are mostly about the cock-rock though, so it's no surprise, they probably only think of doing dive-bombs when they see a vibrato bar on a guitar. I mainly use 'em to put a nice shimmer on chords and the jazzmaster/jaguar trem kills the strat's in that regard, though admittedly I'm a strat guy.
***** I adore Jazzmasters. They're my favorite guitars ever made. But nowadays, the stock trems are useless. They need to just license the Mastery Bridge and make it the official bridge and trem. It'd be worth every cent of the price increase.
Austin Valley Going off of the links they provided in the About section, they're selling them for 875 pounds each, to put that in US dollars, about $1400 :o not sure why they're priced so high.
The riff at 11:25 is a masterclass in how to get the huge sound obtained in recordings with a slightly gain heavy low end guitar and a mild crunch on a more mid/treble based guitar. Mix between both = tonegasm :3
I have a Japanese 95' Mustang which I absolutely love for the range in sounds it produces; I could never upgrade either pickup for the humbuckers on the American special. But I'm so tempted to get the American Special Mustang too for gutsier stuff- Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnn it's so tight
I have to say that I do love the reviews you all do and it does make me think about gear, when you guys just jam, I would love to be sitting there in front just listening to it and possibly get it for listening to on my ipod. Please keep it up You all make my work day seem tolerable
Great demo, guys! The music at the end scared the shit out of me, though. lol You have to remember, some of us are listening on relatively large studio monitors. ;)
It's amazing how people still get that wrong. The entire construction of P90's vs Jazzmaster pickups, they're built completely different and sound different!
Fender is still way less boring than Gibson. Gee, let's see, SG, Les Paul, Explorer, Flying V and a few models of semi-/hollowbody, all with 2 humbuckers, 24.75" scale, etc. YAWN.
The Jazzmaster trem worked wonderfully for those that had a sound that necessitated that particular trem type. I think as Catdumpling points out in an earlier comment that the Captian is forgetting quite a few examples of some pretty successful bands that have used that particular trem to a great degree and effect.
Rob you should work a little on the audio. the differences between the dialogues and the time when you're playing the guitar is really huge. but as always great video! cheers!
Love the Marshal..though the Orange sounds more thick...I would be nice to see the review with both the guitars plugged into the same amp with the same presets dialed in. And the blues jam sessions you'll have...love em'!
The Jazzmaster has the same electronic configuration and body as Taylor York's custom Jazzmaster. He removed the top switches and moved the toggle switch to the upper bout. Only difference is that he has a Phat Cat P-90 in the neck and an Alnico II Pro in the bridge. He also has binding on the neck.
J Mascis disagrees with you on the Jazzmaster Tremolo comments. But you make up for it with your ever awesome videos. I personally love my Classic Player Jazzmaster, but might need to pop in to Andertons to check out these new American ones, they tasty.
Just bought a black one... No complaints... sounds sweet through my blues jr. III Might be the best US made guitar under $1000... No case... bleh, no tremolo...I don't care.
Grate sound in this review!!!! (Marshall and Orange.... my favorite sounds for rock!) PS: Rob, if you had to choose an Orange amp for blues/classic rock, which one would you pic?
hey chappers can you do a review of the ESP LTD Eclipse EC-256 blk? im thinking about picking one up at andertons and want to know how it sounds. rock and metal would be my style of music thx!
Hi all from Tasmania/Australia. I'm an ex-pat British and would have loved to have seen a video view from Chappers lounge room of the English sea side. Also, could you perhaps play some different familiar tunes with your videos. Love the great work though.
how much for the mustang HH. i feckin want it so i can practice some nirvana. its not a short scale either. they got jumbo frets. so say fender themselves
scale lengh and fret wires have nothing to do...scale lengh is the distance between the bridge and the nut, and frets are the "wires" on the fretboard..

primeDecomposition Give three examples of any of those bands using the vibrola on a jm for a divebomb. Just three.
***** I adore Jazzmasters. They're my favorite guitars ever made. But nowadays, the stock trems are useless. They need to just license the Mastery Bridge and make it the official bridge and trem. It'd be worth every cent of the price increase.
ftr2216 I think he meant the demo guys. Not those bands.
i didnt expect the price to be so high for an american special
lol your profile pic reflects your sentiment. :)
They are the same price as the rest of the American Special guitars.
Austin Valley i've never seen an american special even remotely that high
littleredguitars2 I don't know what they're advertising them for but in the U.S. American specials are $899.99 across the line.
Austin Valley Going off of the links they provided in the About section, they're selling them for 875 pounds each, to put that in US dollars, about $1400 :o not sure why they're priced so high.
the jazz master sounds freaking amazing
Dat Mustang....... DAMN!!!!
The rhythm sound of the two guitars together, hard panned, is just heavenly. Not a combination I'd ever have thought of, but very tempted to try now.
What an amazing channel, seriously it's so hard to upload everyday so hats off to you chappers, and indeed the captain
The riff at 11:25 is a masterclass in how to get the huge sound obtained in recordings with a slightly gain heavy low end guitar and a mild crunch on a more mid/treble based guitar. Mix between both = tonegasm :3
Man Rob, you're playing just keeps getting better and better! Loved your stuff in this vid, keep it up!
Best ending ever... Great editing
That mustang sounds amazing...
I like when you guys jam like you've been doing recently.
These sounds great! And the sunny setting is refreshing.
That Mustang sounds fantastic! It clicked with me!
That mix at 17.10 sounds absolutely perfect in that wee jam
Both of those guitars are gorgeous.
That looks like a great Mustang.
Really loving that Mustang!
Another video where Chapman plays just rock. Great versatility.
They sound loverly, good work guys. Keep it up!
Been coming back to this channel waiting for this review haha
I have to say that I do love the reviews you all do and it does make me think about gear, when you guys just jam, I would love to be sitting there in front just listening to it and possibly get it for listening to on my ipod. Please keep it up You all make my work day seem tolerable
that's tewm ... you're a fast learner chappers ! lovin the maltese references in the vids !
Just got my road worn Jazz and love it. Mustang bridge went on before playing one note thought.
Great demo, guys! The music at the end scared the shit out of me, though. lol You have to remember, some of us are listening on relatively large studio monitors. ;)
That's why I like it ;)
At last ive been looking around in youtube to hear a decent review! Great guitars wanna buy one now!!
the jams in the vid were great
Forget the guitars, I want that mug!
jazzmaster pickups aren't p90s. They're just jazzmaster pickups >
It's amazing how people still get that wrong. The entire construction of P90's vs Jazzmaster pickups, they're built completely different and sound different!
They sound great, thanks guys.
As always, sounds good!
What a sweet sweet tone...
I have a mustang special and I had twelves down half a step and it was not too bad. I currently have tens and I like it perfectly!
i will forever be jealous of chapper's guitar rig. its too beautiful
Great solo at the start captain, subtly brilliant. For me thats how guitar should be played.
At 8:25 what would you call that style of playing?? I hear it played in your videos sometimes! It sounds awesome!
Great tones :)
I know Fender likes to put every possible pickup into their handful of body shapes, but humbuckers DISGUISED as Jazzmaster pickups is just wrong.
Fender is still way less boring than Gibson. Gee, let's see, SG, Les Paul, Explorer, Flying V and a few models of semi-/hollowbody, all with 2 humbuckers, 24.75" scale, etc. YAWN.
I agree, it's like how Fender have put three pickups in a telecaster, what are they playing at? Ahaha
AnimalHouseVetVideos True
Tones awesome on both!
well it is a JAZZmaster and a musTANG :D
I think I might sell my strat for a jazz master
never been that keen on a jazzmaster but christ that sounds good
the mustang also sounds amazing
The Jazzmaster trem worked wonderfully for those that had a sound that necessitated that particular trem type. I think as Catdumpling points out in an earlier comment that the Captian is forgetting quite a few examples of some pretty successful bands that have used that particular trem to a great degree and effect.
Very entertaining reviews. I went in thinking the Jazzmaster would appeal to me more, but that mustang was pretty incredible.
The Jagstang needs to return
i dont care if the guitars of choice and playing are not my preference, i always watch just for the chappers/captain banter!
Personally I like the guitars with a black finish. Looks nice with the pickguard.
Mmmmm... The cleans on those P90s...
love them both!!!!!!
What is the song rob plays at about 8:31? Its nice.
it is his song called "majestic"
so i noticed in the backround, chappers guitar rack...
the rest are just chillin', then the V is all like... "yo!"
I've been nice lady, f***ing love it. And loved the Mustang too.
Good tones for sure.
You know what pickups have a great name and sound? The chapman Guitarnivores. :D
These should be renamed the Fender Putang and Jizzmaster.
Poontang would have been so much better
The Jazzmaster has the same electronic configuration and body as Taylor York's custom Jazzmaster. He removed the top switches and moved the toggle switch to the upper bout. Only difference is that he has a Phat Cat P-90 in the neck and an Alnico II Pro in the bridge. He also has binding on the neck.
J Mascis disagrees with you on the Jazzmaster Tremolo comments.
But you make up for it with your ever awesome videos. I personally love my Classic Player Jazzmaster, but might need to pop in to Andertons to check out these new American ones, they tasty.
They should release an album
Jazzmaster on the Orange sounds boss ... nice :)
i'd love to have one for my usual surf playing :3
I'd love a 24" scale Chapman guitar.
Hum cancelling single coils. There's a good idea. They should have been doing that for decades.
beautiful
I love lees tone
Humbuckers can be tapped, they just have a wire coming off before the end of the bobbin that removes winds. Makes it just a lower power humbucker
you have an awesome place chappers!!!!!
It's like Fender read my mind. I literally had the EXACT same Mustang in my head for ages! Right down to the finish!
Only it had a tremolo.
jazzmaster/jaguar without tremolo is like a castrated cat, because it's actually one of the essentials of these guitars.
Nice sounding jam, Lads. I'm a beginner - just wondering what chords they were. :)
At 8:30 is that an actual song or just a random riff?
It's his song called majesty
Just bought a black one... No complaints... sounds sweet through my blues jr. III Might be the best US made guitar under $1000... No case... bleh, no tremolo...I don't care.
I feel like I need one of these BADLY
A Vann why do you use... so many elipsis... you kill me.... just make full coherent sentences... please...
Grate sound in this review!!!! (Marshall and Orange.... my favorite sounds for rock!)
PS: Rob, if you had to choose an Orange amp for blues/classic rock, which one would you pic?
OR50
Micah Kreider i thought the or120.....
Get the MIM Jazzmaster. It keeps the the rhythm circuit and it sounds wicked overdriven.
hey chappers can you do a review of the ESP LTD Eclipse EC-256 blk?
im thinking about picking one up at andertons and want to know how it sounds.
rock and metal would be my style of music
thx!
I'd say search on his channel for ESP LTD Eclipse vids. I know he did one or a few before.
Damn that mustang looks so sexy. I've never seen that model before now. Should I get that instead of a Strat?
Hand_of_Ares yes!
16:30 - that was very David Brent-y haha
Hi all from Tasmania/Australia. I'm an ex-pat British and would have loved to have seen a video view from Chappers lounge room of the English sea side. Also, could you perhaps play some different familiar tunes with your videos. Love the great work though.
I was going to comment about the split/tap thing :D
Really interested in the Jazzmaster. Probably would change the pickups though. Don't care for the idea of a humbucker in a Jazzmaster.
It works :O
Could You tell me what amp is used in the OUTRO song riff on the end ??
Mustang!!!
chappers quite likes rating things 8.5 haha. nice video
Pls do a video on the fender squier telecaster deluxe/custom
And what "links below" are they talking about in the info area? There are no links.
Is that first sing yall played a real song, or were you just jamming?
I really want to get a Fender Mustang.
You look a bit like a Mustang sort of man I reckon, like Chris Stapleton...do you own a cowboy hat?
No cowboy hat.
It is a shame that they discontinued this one.
***** I don't see where you are going to stir up a huge groundswell of sentiment about this particular version of the iconic Fender machine...
Terrance Hill That is an excessively dramatic way to discuss retail availability.
how much for the mustang HH. i feckin want it so i can practice some nirvana.
its not a short scale either. they got jumbo frets. so say fender themselves
scale lengh and fret wires have nothing to do...scale lengh is the distance between the bridge and the nut, and frets are the "wires" on the fretboard..
It's 24", which is short scale. Mustangs have always been 24" or 22.5", though that scale wasn't very popular.
If you want a mustang for Nirvana, you could just buy Fenders remake of Kurt's guitar.
***** sure, for a few hundred more dollars. They are nicer guitars, though.
id get the jazzmaster and cut out a hole for the jm trem and get right of the stop bar tail piece
dat tone tho
i need that jazz master
And the pickups are supposed to be voiced like a P90 in the Jazzmaster, I think.
damn, wish I could afford both of these. then just Gibson 335 and I would get all my tones covered perfectly!
whats that little spanky tune chappers is playing at around 8.25?
You guys shaved the 'staches before the end of "Movember". Why?
Don't understand why the Captain isn't a fan of the Jazzmaster tremolo! I think it's the best tremolo Fender ever released
will you guys test the jim root fenders eg jazzmaster or strat
I wanted to hear the Mustang solo, but all you guys did was play both guitars at the same time from what I watched.
