I think both the points you had about Vader saying that he killed Anakin Skywalker were correct. He’s telling Obi-Wan that what happened wasn’t his fault, he’s taking ownership of what he’s become. But he also thinks of Anakin as weak, so he does get satisfaction out of believing that he killed Anakin himself.
And when Obi-Wan says he’s free at the end, he doesn’t think Vaders dead, he knows he left him alive. He was saying he’s free of the guilt he felt over what happened to Anakin 🥲

About "normal" guns in Star Wars, yes they do exist and they are called 'slugthrowers' that shoot projectiles (bullets) called 'slugs'.
If you remember the pod race from The Phantom Menace, the racers were shot at by Tusken Raiders who were using Cycler rifles which are slugthrowers. You can hear the sound difference too, their guns make more of a normal gun "boom" sound rather than a "pew" laser sound fired from a blaster.

This series and the finale is top tier. For lifelong fans it’s such a great nod to so many things they’ve shown us and hits us right in the nostalgic feels. For new fans it’s an epic continuation of an amazing character they’ve grown to deeply care about. What I really love about the Disney Star Wars shows is that it doesn’t require you to watch EVERYTHING that’s been put out in the past, but for those who have it just adds a lot. When you continue your journey you’ll pick up on subtle references between all the media.
Also your question about Reva’s wounds, in ep 5 when the Grand Inquisitor struts in behind Vader and trash talks Reva, his line is “Revenge does wonders for the will to live, doesn’t it?” More prevalent with dark side users, if strong and potent enough they can use their anger and rage to prevent themselves from dying. You saw it with Anakin when he was amputated and burned alive on mustafar. Grand Inquisitor refused to die at the hands of Reva. And now Reva herself used her anger and rage probably to get back at Obi-Wan since he used her to distract Vader and she deduced that Luke bears some meaning to Obi-Wan.
In any case can’t wait to see you continue the adventure

23:53 keep in mind that toy in his hand
26:06 it was more a direct reference of Anakin saying "will i ever see you again?" to his mom (Shmi) in episode 1 :)
i've already told you about Andor and Rogue One, so i know you know ;)
i just wanted to advise you that The Clone Wars should not be watched in released order (season 1, season 2 etc...) but in chronological order (list below). Btw the movie Solo contains a massive Clone Wars spoiler (revealed quite late in the series) that you have no idea of, for real.
I personally didn't enjoy the Kenobi series as much as you do (and this is definitely not from a minority i'm afraid), but i'm really glad you liked it! ;)
The series at the beginning was written to be a trilogy. There is a reedit version by Kai Patterson (a 2.5 hours cut) that has been trending on social media which i think is a lot better. Anyway, this is only the beginning of your SW journey !

Wishing you many happy years of Star Wars fandom - you are doing so well - great reactions.
I don't think Reva actually knows who Luke is - she just knows Obi-wan is trying to protect him - and that he could be important to Vader for some reason. She just wants to hurt Obi-wan by attacking someone he seems to care about. Whether she has any motivations related to what Vader may think is unclear. I think she realises now that directly attacking Vader is beyond her skill level.

Just getting around to binging all of your Star Wars experience now, and since nobody seems to have mentioned it, lightsaber wounds (depending on the type of wound) aren't always fatal, just as blaster wounds aren't always fatal. Both lightsabers and blaster fire cauterize (however you spell that) wounds, due to their immense heat. Prolonged exposure will kill someone, but you can survive a stab or cut in the right place.
I know you've seen the return of Darth Maul, so obviously you know people can survive being cut in half, but the thing Darth Maul, Anakin after being burned by lava (as well as getting his limbs cut off), Reva being stabbed twice, and the Grand Inquisitor being stabbed, is that they all used the Dark Side to survive. They used rage. Hatred. Revenge. The Grand Inquisitor has a line about it in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5 when he shows up at the end (he also has two stomachs, but that's not super relevant in this case).
However, you've also seen Sabine survive a stabbing in Ahsoka, whereas Qui-Gon died to a stab wound. But things like where you were stabbed, and how soon you receive medical attention are important. And also the mindset of the individual. If one accepts death, then they will die. And Qui-Gon seemed okay with dying, because he knew Obi-Wan would be around to train Anakin. Sabine obviously just wanted to find Ezra, giving her something to live for.

Great reaction! That line vader says brings me to tears. "You didnt kill anakin skywalker. I did" its like he was saying he internally killed himself to become who he is now. The hate he had of all those things and memories that made him anakin drove him to self destruction. Deep..

When Vader says **"I am not your failure"** , his face is covered in blue light as if Anakin Is accepting the apology from Obi wan . Then his face turns red , when Vader returns with darkness . This was so symbolising in a way that even though He's Darth Vader there's is still some Anakin left in him only those who really know him can take out .(Another instance Ashoka ) and Finally Master Qwai Gon for 5secs after two and a half decades
Overally what a great short series which greatly connects the events , also keeping the characters comically accurate . I will be not mad or sad if we don't get a season 2 .

The smile Hayden Christian gives when he says "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did." is one of the most terrifying smiles I've ever seen. That look was pure serial killer.
And you're entirely right. Vader was not *trying* to relieve Obi-Wan's guilt, he was denying Obi-Wan the credit for killing Anakin. He's outraged that Obi-Wan feels guilty, feels pity, because he needs to believe he didn't completely fuck his own life by turning to the Dark Side. It completely backfires though, because it makes Obi-Wan realize that he's not to blame for Anakin's suffering, Anakin is.

The emperor is still on Coruscant, ruling with an iron fist and hiding behind his puppet senate to get away with it. The Galactic Senate is now the Imperial Senate, and is really just a senate in name only, since Palpatine's rule is almost total. In many versions of his backstory, it is said that he has become reclusive, relying on a system of toadies and bureaucrats (like Vader) to carry out his dirty work while he studies the dark side of the Force and uses it to foresee futures he can manipulate.

This is the moment when Obi-Wan realizes that the emotion suppression policy of the Jedi under Yoda was wrong. Incorporating your positive emotions in a beneficial way (such as when he realizes his care for the young Leia) doesn't necessarily make you vulnerable to the Dark Side, it also reinforces the bond with the Light Side, which is how he's able to pull off the floating rock trick at the end of his fight with Vader.
He also reinforces this with his training advice to Luke: "Trust your feelings", when before with Anakin he was always admonishing him to "mind his thoughts" when he displayed emotion. Luke then goes on to rediscover the old Jedi ways before Yoda's teachings and becomes a more successful Jedi than either of them. THAT was the point of this whole journey for Obi-Wan; rediscovering the true balance and bringing the old Jedi ways back to the galaxy.

When you see Vader fight, keep in mind, he is what is left of Anakin, kept alive by machines, in constant physical pain. He wouldn't have the stamina or the agility of a normal person. Just the enhancement the armor provides. So the longer a duel against a strong force wielder like Obi-Wan lasts, the more the odds will be against him.
Vader has to enter the scene, spread fear and strike quickly. That is all what he can do, after Mustafar. Besides still being one of the most powerful force wielders ever, that is.

I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and have basically binge watched every one of your reactions since then but have yet to make a comment. I apologize for the length of this one but I have put in a good deal of thought on this prior to posting.
I have always thought the many Star Wars movies and shows should be viewed in release order but watching you watch these in chronological order has given me new perspective on this. It has allowed you to have a more complete picture of the story arcs of Anakin and Obi Wan especially, and has resulted in some real anxious moments or curiosities that most of us don’t get to experience at all such as not knowing if Obi Wan survives or how adult Princess Leia turns out. (I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying they knocked it out of the park with young Leia (Vivian Lyra Blair)).
This feels pretty unique among all reactors I’ve seen and as such is definitely a breath of fresh air.
That being said, I think I would deviate a bit from being strictly chronological moving forward. You have technically already done this since The Clone Wars movie and tv show take place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
I’m sure you’ve already made a great plan but I will offer up my two cents in case you’re interested.
I think moving forward in the following order would be the most enjoyable as I can only think of one relatively minor individual in Rogue One who you won’t know if you don’t watch the Clone Wars content first and this will in NO WAY take away from or spoil your enjoyment of the movies.
    1. Rogue One
    2. A New Hope
    3. Empire Strikes Back
    4. Return of the Jedi
    >4. Solo (any point after the OG trilogy, good movie but IMHO Harrison Ford MUST be your 1st introduction to Han Solo)
    4. The Clone Wars movie
    5. The Clone Wars tv show (essential prior to new Disney+ shows but not the OG3 and 133 episodes is too long to wait for those)
    6. Bad Batch
    7. Rebels
    8. The Mandalorian seasons 1 &2
    9. Boba Fett
    10. The Force Awakens
    11. The Last Jedi
    12. The Rise of Skywalker
The Clone Wars is tremendous and greatly expands and enriches the lore for Anakin, Obi Wan, the clones, and the Jedi, while introducing several crucially important new characters, but it is a long haul and a little up and down in the beginning.
Rogue One and the OG 3 are ALL absolute classics that will only enhance your viewing of The Clone Wars and everything else after that but I’m not sure the reverse would be true.
In any event, I still plan on watching your reactions whichever way you may choose to go and am looking forward to vicariously learning about this universe for the first time all over again.

One of the things is that despite Obi-wan's huge power up, which I like to believe was Obi-wan attaining "Oneness," the reason Obi-wan defeated Vader was solely due to exploiting the fact that Vader is fighting in a glorified asthma suit. After damaging Vader's respiratory system, Vader struggled just to breathe and thus could not concentrate to use the Force and thus was easily overpowered as a result.
Also fun fact: When Obi-wan cut Vader's mask, you see the left side of Anakin's face. When Ahsoka cut Vader's mask, you see the right side of Anakin's face.

I've been a fan all my life but you and I had a lot of the same opinions for watching this for the first time. Every Vader Obi scene had me emotional!
I also would have liked Reva to have died in the end. It's a common thing for bad guys to survive terrible injuries (dark side unnatural powers and such). But when Reva returned to the light, and let go of her hate, I feel it would have done a lot for her redemption if doing so allowed her to die peacefully.
Obviously this is just my persona hot take.

@@emme The thing about that final part with Reva is that it marks the final stage of Obi-Wan letting go of the guilt that’s been crippling him as a Jedi for the last ten years. After confronting Vader and accepting that Anakin made his own choice, he’s now presented with Reva and her survivor’s guilt and the degree to which it’s warped her life. It’s blindingly obvious that she isn’t to blame for what happened to her fellow younglings and her guilt is ridiculous, misguided, and destructive. And that makes it clear to him finally that he’s been doing much the same thing in a more passive, less evil fashion... letting guilt about the past ruin who he is today. And that’s the final thing he needs to truly let go: “Now you are free. We both are.” They’ve moved past the guilt chaining them to Anakin and Vader’s darkness and are now free to be something better. If Reva had simply dropped dead at this point, it would have sent a much different message... that without the pain and guilt you have nothing, you are dead.

I think Vader said he killed Anakin because he finally accepted responsibility for his actions that led to his demise. Also Vader is weaker than Anakin would've been because he is part machine, and that takes away from his ability to use the force. Which goes to show how powerful he was because he is still very powerful as a cyborg.

A lot of people were confused as to how she survived, while characters like Qui Gon endured the same wounds and died. The way I see it, Jedi don’t fear death, when it’s time for them to die they let go and accept their fate, whereas Sith are hellbent on revenge and use hate to keep themselves alive.

What a great journey this has been, emme! Great reactions. Obi-Wan Episode 6 was a wonderful emotional bow tied on to the ribbon of the experience that was the prequels. The fact that this show was "controversial" is so foreign to me because I guess I'm able to just enjoy the ride for what it is. There will always be purists who claim that anything new "takes away from their childhood" but if you just watch Ewan and Hayden in this series you can tell the emotional investment they had in revisiting this story--and that should be enough of a wave to ride on, IMHO. It sounds like you're going into the original trilogy with an open mind, which you'll need having been watching this in timeline order. Like you said, the original trilogy was created a long time ago (in a galaxy, well, really really close). If there were backstories to these characters at the time, they existed only in George Lucas's mind. For that reason, I imagine that there will be some unsatisfying moments and un-resolved emotional loose ends when you watch. But if you just buckle in and go for the ride, I think you'll have a great time!
P.S. Still can't wait for more Marvel 😇

The closest to watching these shows in timeline order is to watch episodes 1-3 of the Book of Boba Fett, then episodes 1-5 of the Mandalorian, episode 4 of the book of Boba Fett, the episode5 to the end of season 2 of the Mandalorian, and finish with episodes 5-7 of the Book of Boba Fett.

    A ways late to this:
Force users have been documented as using the force for life sustaining abilities that defy normal biology. Yoda managed to sustain himself for the whole of his time on Dagobah through the force and occasionally chewing on his stick, basically using the force as calories. Anakin would've died on the lava banks of Mustafar without a doubt had he not been the most powerful force wielder ever. Like the grand inquisitor said, revenge does wonders for the will to live, so it's a logical jump that one can survive a stab wound via the force, if not the plain luck that you described.

It is so refreshing that none of the series has been spoiled for you and that you are watching in time-line order. It really adds to your sense of wonder, not knowing what comes next and your reactions are priceless. After you watch Solo: A Star Wars Story, Rogue One, and the O.T. (Original Trilogy: Episode 4: A New Hope, Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back, Episode 6: Return of the Jedi), you may want to watch "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett" limited series on Disney+ to continue the live-action time-line. Then the Sequel Trilogy (Episode 7: The Force Awakens, Episode 8: The Last Jedi, and Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker) finishes up the movies. Other Disney+ series are currently in production as well, but have not yet been released. I think you will really enjoy The Mandalorian in particular, though not all of Star Wars focuses on light sabers and the Jedi. I personally enjoyed The Book of Boba Fett, but it was one of the more "hated on" series by toxic fans. Disregard any negativity and judge for yourself which movies and series you enjoy and don't let the naysayers dissuade you. It is a true pleasure seeing the franchise through your fresh, un-spoiled and un-jaded eyes.

Really enjoyed this as always, however I was literally shocked when you said this was not as intense as the last episode. Literally nothing was more intense, epic and emotional as that fight and interaction between Obi and Darth. I'm not sure what you missed there, but I can't understand your perspective. It's interesting, though to see this entire saga play out in order for you. So I hope Solo is next, since that's next in the timeline. You'll meet Han Solo when he's younger before you see the character again in episode 4. Then ROGUE One. Remember, the end of that literally leads into the first moments of A NEW HOPE. Keep in mind that and the OT were made in the seventies and eighties, so, though the characters and stories are great, the effects are not as good, though still pretty incredible. Can't wait to continue watching your journey.👍

In psychology; When you are real traumatize you are making an escape due to all the pain.
That is why Palpatine gave him another name to escape into. He thinks and want to believe he can be another person. That person buried and "killed" Anakin. He follows his doctrine of Palpatine and became a slave to that doctrine. That doctrine is a symbol of a being robotic, a slave to it.
Off course it is all an illusion he puts on to him self in his escape. When Luke reached into him, that illusion fall apart.

Of course you’ll need the whole Original Trilogy as well to understand what Vader truly thinks about himself, but I think “Anakin is gone, I’m *what remains”* is the key part you should be looking at here. He doesn’t view himself as more than what he was, he views himself as less.
P.S. Palpatine is, well, exactly where you last saw him at the end of Episode III, ruling the Galaxy as Emperor.

I see it different than most people and maybe it's me being hopeful. So, during this battle you can hear how his voice changes from more Anakin to Vader. You also see blue and red light on his face when he's switching personas. When he tells Obi Wan that he didn't kill Anakin Skywalker his voice is more Anakin and then switches to Vader when he says that he did. I think this is the good in Anakin trying to, in some way, alleviate the guilt he knows that Obi Wan feels. He's letting Obi Wan know that he doesn't blame him.

This series was a great growth series for obi-wan. Wish they would’ve done a couple more episodes showing him and qui-gon interacting and him learning more from his former master. It was interesting to see Anakin’s fall deeper into Vader. Earlier in this series he still called Obi-Wan “master” but at the end of their last battle he called him “Obi-Wan”. If possible when you do the original trilogy try to find the unaltered editions of the films. Starting in the late 90s Lucas made changes to the film when technology was at the point he felt could make the movies better. Don’t want to spoil the clone wars animated series in case you’re gonna watch it cause it reveals someone that was attacked by a lightsaber and turned up again.

  • @davidburke2132
    @davidburke2132 ปีที่แล้ว

About the lightsabers and surviving being stabbed it’s actually quite legitimate under even our known medical science. Whilst it is of course entirely possible for someone to die from a stab wound you’d be surprised how often stab victims survive. Add to that two elements that are unique to the Star Wars universe:
    - lightsabers when you use them to stab rather than slash are actually less problematic for survival compared to our steel bladed knives or swords because the lightsaber cauterises the wound and helps stop bleeding, which is often what people die from with real world stab wounds; and
    - somebody like Reva has the force to sustain her and help keep her alive. This is especially true for a dark side force user… there is a lot of canon regarding dark side force users being able to use their anger to survive injuries, not least Vader himself for whom it’s part of his survival story that it’s his pain and anger and using that to tap into the dark side even more strongly that enabled him to survive what happened to him in Episode III and through the rest of his life (because it was never possible to completely repair him, hence why we see him having ongoing bacta tank treatments in this series).
So it shouldn’t really be all that hard to believe that Reva survived (twice actually) as did the Grand Inquisitor. I guess Qui-Gon was a combination of unlucky and also that being a Jedi the negative emotions of pain and anger from his injury would not help him to tap into the force more deeply to help keep him alive.

Darth Vader said he killed Anakin because he actually did. Deep down inside Anakin and Darth Vader were actually fighting to take control but Darth Vader won and killed Anakin to gain control, think of it as a mental warfare or battle. It's like fighting yourself with your own thoughts. Darth Vader and Anakin are both real beings but Darth Vader was born out of Anakin's fear and anger. It's all in the comics. Nice reaction though :). Also Qui Gon is a force ghost, it's one of the force abilities. You keep your conscious and thoughts but you're a ghost or a spirit. It's for people who use the force in a pure way and the reward for using it in a pure way is that you basically get to keep living after you die and even Yoda, Obi Wan and Anakin learns it later. Anakin learns it after Luke kills him basically and he finally accepted the light side of the force and accepted he did everything wrong and Qui Gon taught Obi Wan how to use it.

This is such a fun series to follow, someone who is completely new to Star Wars and watching every movie/show in chronological order! It feels like I'm watching a sociological experiment 😂
As for your question as to how Reva was able to heal from a lightsaber wound, without spoiling too much... Star Wars stories have established that Force-sensitive people, i.e. Jedi, Sith, and some others, sometimes have the ability to heal from otherwise lethal injuries through sheer will power and determination. There's a major example of this in Clone Wars. And more broadly, I'd describe Star Wars as "high fantasy" rather than sci fi - as magic is essentially a big part of the universe - so there's a lot of wiggle room there for very silly and ridiculous things to happen. Best to just enjoy the ride and not think about it too much 😂

  • @KillerInstinctsCOD

So happy you're doing chronological order. Can't wait for New Hope. You were pretty spot on with your analysis of Anakin's "I'm not your failure, Obi Wan... you didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did" bit. If you remember, in their fight on Mustafar, Obi Wan stated "I have failed you Anakin, I have failed you". What's important to note is that, in this point in Anakin/Vader's life, there still SO much conflict within him. 10 years may seem like a long time, but it's only halfway to New Hope, so there's still a lot of "hardening" that goes on turning Anakin into more Vader in between. So, given that, part of that line, IMO, was Anakin absolving Obi Wan of personal responsibility for the events that occurred. You were also correct about the other side of it- Vader meaning that he killed the "weaker" Anakin Skywalker himself. This part of him subconsciously also knows it's too late for him to turn back, so his only choice is to believe it was for the better because "Anakin was weak".
The tragedy of Anakin Skywalker is so powerful and Disney actually did a good job portraying part of it in this regard. So many misunderstand Anakin's turn (which would be a much, much longer post for me lol, but you do seem to understand it better than most) and his complexity and inner battle always lives on. A pretty widespread quote: "The prequels are largely about an arrogant religion, who, after finding their Messiah, handed him over to the devil".
Great reaction, it's been great following your journey.

Forgot to also add that Anakin hates being reduced down to "descriptives"; i.e. when he first meets Padme she says "You're a slave?" and he strongly states "My name is Anakin and I'm a human being". I don't think he likes being reduced down to someone else's failure. This is especially deep now, because he still feels this way even though he's more machine than man.

Those were blasters that Beru got out, but there are projectiles weapons in the Star Wars universe, sometimes called slug throwers though. There is also a blaster that shoots scattered shots like a shotgun. Blasters aren't actually laser guns per se. They use a power pack to ignite an energized gas into a compressed, focused, high-energy particle-beam that is called a 'bolt' in the setting. :)
Technically if you are going to watch in order, you have to wait for the Andor series to finish before watching any new films. 😆😂😉
They don't show it but Reva could have had a bacta spray, like a concentrated form of what they were using to heal Obi-wan (and Vader) in the tanks. Also Light Sabers cauterize most of what they cut so she wouldn't bleed out either.

So, a comment about a question you posed:
Imperial Government Lecture: Palpatine is in charge of the Empire, since he was the last Chancellor of the Republic. He essentially started the Clone Wars and caused enough panic that the Senate voted him increasingly broad emergency powers until he was able to create a dictatorship. Palpatine remains the Emperor. In true power-hungry fashion, he never appointed a clear successor to reduce the chance that anyone overthrows him. I suppose, technically, the new emperor if he dies would be one of the Grand Moffs (probably Tarkin), though maybe the Grand Vizier (the blue alien guy that we saw briefly in the Senate in Ep III) has a shot. However, Vader is his Sith apprentice, and thus functions as a de-facto second in command of the Empire.
As for your reaction, I thought it was really cool that you weren't sure whether Obi-Wan would make it out. Timeline order has never really been carried this far on TH-cam, I think.
However, do keep in mind that timeline order is probably a bit of a slog at certain points. A lot of SW content (at least in movie and TV format) is between Ep. II and Ep. IV. Of course, you have the Clone Wars, the famous TV show that takes place in my favorite era. But you've also got the TV shows Rebels, the Bad Batch, and the upcoming Andor, and the movies Solo and Rogue One. This glut of content in one place is partly to flesh out character backstories but also to showcase the transition between trilogies.
By the way, is that a Yale sweatshirt?
