I like the bright happy colors. I grew Brussels sprouts in Mississippi in raised beds with insect netting on hoops over the winter, covered with clear plastic when we had hard freezes. They did great!
I got some good germination on my celery this year!!! I planted on August 3rd and left them in the house which is around 75 degrees. I just left them in an area that is not used much and the lights never turned on. It germinated in a week and then I set them outside under shade cloth under our patio table. I water (mist) them every day along with our collards, broccoli, kale, beets, and lettuce. They are looking really good. I have been watering twice a week with a diluted 20-20-20, but misting them every day. This is working so well for me this year. You just have to find what works for you, but the cool room temps I believe helped with my germination. I did surface sow them and didn't cover with anything! I would love if Mama Hoss would do some celery preserving videos this year!!!
I dried a bunch of the leaves of the celery last year as it came in to use and had enough for all winter and spring! I use it in place of celery stalks in dishes that use it and they have the best celery flavor! Not washed out and barely any flavor!! Home grown is always best!!❤
I lost my Daddy eight years ago. When you’re a close family, death can be hard. But all the memories I have as a child, and as a adult has kept him alive in my heart, and I know that will happen with you. Now I tell my grandchildren what a wonderful Daddy I had. He is still here with me. He is part of who I have become. God bless you at this time in your life may he comfort you in your time of need.
I've done everything wrong and my Tango celery has germinated. I planted my Hoss Tango celery a few weeks ago in a couple of 6 cell seed trays. Since they the seeds were so small, I treated them like carrot seeds and just pressed them into the already moist seed starter mix; no pearlite, no soil on top. My seed trays are in an upstairs area that has the air conditioning thermostat set at 76 degrees Fahrenheit. I had a plastic tray dome on them. The tray is sharing a shelf with a tray of broccoli and when the broccoli started to sprout I turned on the grow lights. I planted trays containing broccoli, cabbage, collards, aspabroc broccoli, fennel, leeks, and kale (all Hoss seeds) and the Tango celery was the last to germinate. This is the first time I've ever planted celery seeds, so maybe I got lucky, but I don't think so. Also, if you're going to start offering different colored seed starting trays I wouldn't want red and black as Greg suggested. Crimson and white for me, thank you. Roll Tide and hope to see you again in Jemison.
I had my best celery harvest last year. Looking forward to trying again this season. Thanks for the tips. I see the old goat hanging out in the red mesh bag above the onions.
Great show! Oh, heck yeah! Looking forward to the new 25 cell trays!! Perfect size! My wife can handle those! Personally, I think colors are great! That way you know at a glance what’s what. (I’ll still label, of course) I also plant a lot of things straight from the cell tray to the garden and these will be much less cumbersome to move around the garden. Yes, Yes, Yes to more pelleted seed offerings too! (Carrots!!) Brian went above and beyond with those gifts! I have a couple of older Old Timer “Sharpfinger” knives that are still my absolute favorite skinning knives! Nothing fancy, they just do what they’re supposed to, and do it well!
Thanks for the help growing celery! My wife has a celery plant in her herb garden that comes up every year. She fries sliced potatoes, onions, and celery leaves in olive oil. The celery leaves provide a wonderful flavor to the mix.
I grew some celery this year think I got form HD and it was really easy to go. I would harvest the stalk, make celery juice, Had them in a bed with some collards and they did really good. They will keep growing as long as you keep them cut down. Tasted really good.
I really enjoyed all the amazing information you guys provided, this comment come from my experience growing celery this past spring. I started in 3/4" soil blocks in December 15 by the end of January I had a 5" stocky plants ready to hit the ground, when transplanted in the very beginning of February they took off like crazy, just for reference I'm in 9b Sacramento Ca. Our winters are cold and we do get freezing temperatures and hardly past the 45 degrees mark at night. They also sprouted in less than 10 days. When starting small vegetables or flowers seeds I will always choose soil blocks, game changer.
I started celery 3 weeks ago. Great germination (I just pressed the seeds in). They were coming along fine, then something came along and ate the tops off of them and my brassicas. I am in zone 8 in North Texas and considering if have time to start again. Pelleted seeds would be nice. I grew celery a couple of years ago during springtime in a raised bed and was surprised with the success.
I live in jamaica and have been getting celery to germinate every month in our hot climate right on my verandah takes some time to master it ,but have been at it since fall of last year. Always watch your show and is also a customer
I'm on my 5th year of growing celery. In the beginning, I trialed different varieties but Tango is my favorite. I started my seeds in late July in 10a, East Central FL... community sow since those seeds are tiny. I just transplanted them yesterday. My technique is different. Mine get most sun, outside, lots of water. I do keep a cover on to protect them the first month.
When starting celery seeds, I just place the seeds on the surface of my cell trays and water them into the soil. Then place a dome over the tray. I get excellent germination even a at 78°. I do have a grow light on a timer so that they can have light as soon as they emerge. Once they get about 1 1/2" tall I plant them into my garden bed. They may take a little more than two weeks to germinate at this temperature. They do like plenty of water.
I love this show always interesting topics. I also love buying seeds from you guys as you have great varieties. The old goat is in the bag hanging above the bunch of onions. Keep up the good work.
Pastel colors / colors, colors , colors.. I like the colors to plant like each variety in and I can document those varieties by color in my garden notebook and at a glance I know each tray has a different variety plant without having to look at each individual plant tag. Old goat hanging out on the onions tonight.
I've tried growing celery for the last 3 years. This year it's grown the best and I think it's because it's been very wet this year. The stalks are nice and big, the color is vibrant and it tastes great. Homegrown celery has such a better flavor than store bought.
Thank you for the correct information on celery & thank you for another episode. I personally do not care about my seed tray color. I would prefer black over any bright colors
I like the blue plant cells! I just said to myself today, I better check with Hoss when to plant celery! Great minds think alike! ❤ I’m sorry for your great loss. ❤
Well I’ll be! My granddaughter Abby, is going to be so excited that y’all showed our photos. I didn’t expect that. We have been having a lot of fun harvesting the Luffa’s I’m just hoping that Abby doesn’t mention anymore about making soap to add our Luffa too.. because I have no clue on making soap, this sweet girl of ours thinks her Gigi(me) can do anything, but I’m not ready for soap making. Thanks again y’all! Blessings from TN❤
Hey y'all from the Houston area. We've grown celery here in zone 9 but we started by cutting off the bottom of store bought celery. I don't feel like I need different colors on my seed tray. That old goat is sticking out of the top of the Hoss onion bag. I think this year we will try it from seeds.
I don’t mind black tray’s. However, I can see the colored ones for plant identification. I start way too many seeds to keep track of what color tray goes with what 😂😂
Plant strawberries in the fall to help them establish themselves before winter and produce fruit in the spring. It's best to plant them early in the fall so they have enough time to establish themselves
For me, tray colors dont matter. Sure, they look pretty, which is cool. However, when it comes to seed trays, practicality amd functionality are more important to me.
One more thing as the video move forward, I successfully terminated celery two weeks ago in a 95 degree weather outside in a partial shady spot i have on my yard, and I end it cover the seeds.

Yes all the color you can come up with makes it so much more fun to seed start.

Thank you for the kind words.
The Old Goat’s hanging out in the Hoss mesh bag up there with the onions. Can’t wait for those smaller trays!

Don't eat much celery but enjoyed the video and watch almost all of them I think.
Hey y’all love the new seed starting tray, voting for different colors, can’t wait til they are available, great show as usual.

Are yall going to sell the So-Fire Red Onion plants again this year? I had a great crop last year.
No, we are changing up this year to Red Creole
I have a problem with the labels on my seed trays falling off or getting knocked off and then not knowing what I planted where
Probably just me
An idea is to use masking tape on the side and write on it. This has worked for me.
I think I see the old goat behind the onion sack on Hoss side.
So what month do you transplant the celery outside in different zones?
In Zone 9 end of September.
Looks like the old goat is in or behind the red mesh Hoss bag .

One more thing as the video move forward, I successfully terminated celery two weeks ago in a 95 degree weather outside in a partial shady spot i have on my yard, and I end it cover the seeds.
I don’t care about the color as long as it’s the same material as the larger trays
