I live in the intermediate section of America and I start my candy onion seeds around Late July very early August so that they have time to grow and be ready to transplant out by early October. This way when I transplant them in early October they have about a month and a half to establish the roots in the soil before the cold temperatures really start to set in.
Love onions and have been wanting to grow more. I have had little luck sprinkling some bunching onion seeds straight into the garden. Some of them took and have been alive for a few years and even went to seed. I am trying to do a self sustaining food forest here in Warner Robins with a heavy mulch method. It is hard for me to get out there and water everything because I work full time and have a lot of animals which are very time consuming. Thanks so much for sharing, definitely want to start some inside under my grow lights. Now I know I may need to kick the temp up a little in my house, you think 70-73 degrees will work lol
I just ordered the 3 set onions that are delivered come this November 2024 . Hoping its a new wonderful political time for our Country , We still need to grow our own veggies, potatoes, all fruits & veggies and through the years Ive always came back to hoss for our oniond. ALWAYS GREAT & GROW TO BE AMAZING EVEN HERE IN TEXAS . WILL BE GETTING THE ammonia sulfate later ... Thank you Mrs josette Texas 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I planted the Savanna Sweet onion last year. Tried following your instructions the best I could. Probably planted a little late. But got a great harvest of huge onions. Super sweet. Harvested in April and still eating them now.
Greg, you make me want to try the onions. Well to many health problems now . Plus I’ve sold my farm will be moving on. Should be out of McDonough in about 13 or 14 months. Have a day. 👍
I ordered some seeds from your company to make onion seeds and a few other items The 20/20 that you said is that a granule and how tall should you get before you start cutting them back first time growing onions by seeds I talked to your customer service person and she was extremely helpful and extremely nice give her a raise
Trim onion seedlings when they reach about 4 inches tall, 2-3 times while they're growing indoors. Trimming can help strengthen the stems and promote more leaf and root growth
Here in Colorado, I'd been starting my Candy onion seeds around Christmas or New Year's to plant out in early spring (which for us is April), but I think my onions are maybe not attaining the full size possible. Thanks for the tip on starting them in November! Will try that this year and see if that improves the final harvest.
I am always confused on what type to plant, short day or intermediate. We live in eastern NC. I would like to start some seeds soon. We do have an unheated high tunnel. I have some red creole and texas early white seeds, when could I plant them and then transplant them?
Onion seeds typically have a one-year shelf life, but germination rates decrease as the seeds age. Fresh seeds germinate best, and germination rates are highest with seeds that are no more than one year old.
Why in the world don’t my red ever get as big as the others? My starting onions, is over. I learned to pick my battles 😂 I buy Hoss onion plants. And I can seem to get my cabbage heads to form a tight head either. Pretty plants, heads look a good size last year but none were tight🤷♀️. Decided not to even start this year unless there is a quick tip, hint hint.
