I stumbled on to TesseracT a few months ago and barely listened to anyone else since. One of the most brilliant bands I’ve ever heard in my life, man 💯
I love the intricacies that you can hear here that you can't on the original recording. It's amazing to see original use of the bass and it can make a band's sound completely different. What a talent this man is
Superb! Amos are from another planet, he is one of a kind. Who can outplay him? It's not possible to make better basslines. Such a amazing inspiration!
This groove is so awesome. His technique is impeccable too, so cleanly executed. I really want to see you guys live someday after all this covid stuff blows over. I think you could tour with Haken and have great synergy.
Wow there's so much more going on in this song then I had thought, sounded so incredible front row live in sydney, thanks Amos, you're a huge inspiration
Absolutely one of my favorite bassist tones and styles. This is the sound I’ve been working to sculpt myself for quite some time. Sorely lack the technique shown here however. 😉
Your movement an flow on first pre verse, and second verse are just extraordinary... And this octave thing on chorus... pure perfection. I'm raping replay, and I'm a big fan of yours, Amos :)
Great playing! Love the new album! I like how your new basses have the music man voice but with a little more midrange content, instead of it being ULTRA mid scooped like on a traditional MM. I would personally love to hear some Jazz bass voiced tones on Tesseract's music as well. But anyway, Thank You you guys for the amazing music, and the inspiration.
You really need to make more videos asap! I love em'! Also, this is a nice bass, but your Warwicks sound so much better! I miss your BO and F1 Jazzman.
How does one simply write such an unbelievable bass line? Where in the creative process does writing bass come in for TesseracT? Eg do you work guitar down or bass up if that makes sense? Awesome work on Sonder, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the album ( when I say thoroughly I mean at this point I could probably learn all the parts from memory). Cheers from Australia 😁
So happy to see this only a couple weeks after you guys played in Brisbane. You all played so well but I was a little disappointed to notice that the only times you cut through (At that show at least) was when you were slapping.
Man that bass is a gut-rumbler! Awesome tone from that AW5 Amos, and awesome videography! What tuning are you playing in here? Thanks a ton for the video!
When tuning drop A, would you use a regular 5 string set with saddle higher, or a larger string? (Guitar player new to bass asking) If so, what gauge for 34" scale?
Amos uses 35' scale basses I think, but if you're using a regular 34' scale you'd ideally want a beefier low string to start off and then set intonation/string height based off of that I like using really beefy lows if I'm going to A or as far as F# it since you're only looking for A, experiment anywhere from .140 to .145
I wouldn't go any smaller than a 135 on for a Low A string. Honestly I didn't know 145 gauge string existed, may aswell just start using bridge suspension cable at that point lol
Hi Funkaforfan, I'm not using the nail at all in the upstroke, it's more the side of the thumb at the hight of the knuckle that's hitting and plucking it. If you do it this way you get a more consistent sound between the down and up stroke (the nail sounds different) To do this the trick is the have the palm of your hand as close to the strings as possible. Then your thumb is parallel to your strings and not digging underneath. This way the palm is also in the perfect place to mute the strings you don't want to hear. At least, this is what works for me. Hope this helps.
@@funkaforfan I do use my nail, but I've developed a callosity, just as with all my other fingers. Slap hurted in the beginning but now it doesn't at all
@@funkaforfan it actually is the nail that gives it the click. I have my 6 string bass in my hands and plugged into my ashdown 115. It really is the nail that gives it the colour you hear in this song. The right technique is to do it until it doesn't hurt. I know because slap used to hurt me but now I even slap in walls to develop callosity ;)
This is probably stupid but all that is needed for the tone is the Darkglass compressor and distortion? There is no amp for example? (Guitarist learning bass)
The RME has no production capabilities. The tone generated is mostly through the Darkglasses, yes, but I'd wager that there are some post processing happening within Pro Tools after it's being recorded. To answer the original question, yes you'll get very close with both Darkglass pedals.
The technique he uses to play simultaneous octaves is so smooth
None has made me wanna switch from guitar to bass more than this guy did. And what a dream sound.
So that is why the bass tone in that song was so massive. Those octaves
Thicc Octaves!
Love you Lord Elrond. May you be blessed with all the coffee in the world.
1:18 on is so perfectly arranged it literally sounds like clockwork mechanics.
So fucking impressive.
When elegancy meets power.
This really does show how Tesseract without Amos on bass would be so much less than what it is. So many tasty licks it almost hurts.

Rob Brown your YT lessons are priceless!! Has helped alot. Thanks for being generous.
They are a "must" to see live. Perfect quality sound...its really something to experience...!
Yo, definitely check out their live studio version of conceiling fate !
Beautiful. Crisp, smooth, refined, distinct. Yeah, I'd drink that bass tone.
The tone coming off of the octave plucking has no business sounding that good!
best cover on yt, tesseract need to see this

Even fairly simple tracks like 'Phoenix' have a lot of details.
This bassline is nothing short of beautiful. Well done Amos.
You are an inspiration, and the reason I picked up a bass... Never stop doing what you do. I would be happy to see playthroughs from Altered State.
Man watching you guys live was the best thing to happen to me in 2019.
TesseracT alone is enough to convince me to get a 5 string. This playthrough (and the whole of Sonder) is godlike.
Alexander C Amos was the reason I got one. I can happily say it was 100% worth it- those TesseracT lines are insanely fun to play
also picked up bass a couple years ago because of his playing on Polaris, its been my main instrument ever since
Один из лучших басистов современности. Сдержан, профессионален, вперед группа не лезет, а партии - что-то невероятное.
One of my fav bassists! Man such a great sound.
That bass tone and playing is incredible. So happy to have seen you guys with plini and also ehen you were in NC with Gojira
Perfect!!
FLAWLESS VICTORY 🏆
the best bassist in the world!
During the hardest part of the song, he doesn't even have his eyes open.
Man, that bass really sounds GREAT Amos!! Stellar playing as always!
0:55 reminded me of Ryan Martinie’s technique 😎🤘🏻
Thought the same thing
Tesseract forever
This is the exact reason I caught on to this band. What a sound!
Smooth and silky. Big thumbs up.
One of my favourites from Sonder and probably the best tone you’ve had in your play through videos! 🙂
Most of that insane tone comes from those veins protruding out of his right hand
I don't know how you come up with these bass riffs but it always amazes me. Now I have to spend a while trying to learn this haha.
Post tabs when u do. For the boys
YES, I was waiting for this!!
Yes. This will be good.
It was.

Jesus Christ, it should be illegal for a bass to sound so THICC.

Anestheticly this bass is nice, but it doesn't sound as good as your Warwick on that April playthrough. That toan was divine. 😩😍🙌💯
Your touch is just perfect.
Yo, I really appreciate that you're doing this, Amos. Thanks !
Very impressive ! And that sound...
I just love this song so damn much, Great playing Mr.Williams🔥💞
Actually more complicated than I thought it was. Awsome work as usual 'Mos.
Great technique, playing and tone. Killer man.

So fuckin amazing... Love the bass, love the sound... And awesome music.
