    This is my favorite piano piece. I heard it first on a youtube showing Soyeon Kate Lee play it. I can't play it well, but it is so expressive, it's like I can throw any excess energy into it, and it just seems perfect.

    I have played this, or tried to, but the middle sections with the awful polyrhythms broke me and some of the technique was generally uncomfortable.

    it's quite amazing how unknown Scriabin's works are nowadays.. but the greater the discovery, when one finally comes across his music.
    i like the obscureness, although it's so undeserved, and i think Scriabin wouldn't be happy about it.. 😅 but at least his music is anything but overplayed.. more intimate and fresh in not being so exposed. innumerable gems there, so worth to get acquainted with..
    if you'd like to balance out these two virtuosic pieces, the etude and this impromptu, with something lyrical, please, check out Impromptu 14-2. it will make the air stand still in the concert hall..

    The beginning of this has to have one of the longest melodic lines in musical history!...I feel when I am listening to this that he is walking towards me through veils, or trying to break through them....and then he does. It's marvellous.

    Great as always Josh! There is an Etude by Charles-Valentine Alkan, named le festin d’esope Op. 39 that I’m working on currently, I’d love see it on pro practice episodes and hear your thoughts on it!
    You’ve been a great help in my journey as a pianist, I thank you for that.

    In the video Josh played Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and said it's under copyright, is this piece or other Rachmaninoff pieces under copyright today?

    • @joshwrightpiano
      @joshwrightpiano  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, pieces written after 1926 are still under copyright (I believe that’s the current date for this year…it’s a rolling date that you can google. More pieces come out of copyright each year as that date rolls forward. A lot of great Gershwin music is coming out of copyright that I plan to do tutorials on in the future).

    Josh, any tips for finishing tough pieces stuck at around 70% performance level? At that stage i kind of get tired of them and have to summon extra motivation. Sure, a month break helps but then still the finish line is so tough to cross. Thanks.

    I LOVE your tips and interpretation ideas. Can you please play the entire piece for a video? I feel like your interpretation might be the best of what i heard.
    And by the way could someone give some good scriabin players, im not a listener of scriabin but id definitely like to be one

      I would love to hear him play the entire piece, he really made the left hand ultra soft which really accentuates the emotion of the right hand imo.
      In terms of people who play scriabin, Id say Sofronitzky is one of my favourites, he plays some pieces the way I believe Scriabin would have, he gets the personality and energy in it imo, however that comes at the expense of dated recordings that arent in the best available quality on youtube (I suggest listening to any sort of channel that has "-Topic" at the end (eg. Vladimir Sofronitzky - Topic), those usually have the best audio quality). With that being said there are quite a few Scriabin piano rolls of him playing his own pieces, I dont know how accurate they are according to capturing pedalling and dynamic technology at the time but still really interesting and passionate performances. Apart from that Horowitz is ofcourse great, Ashkenazy has some nice recordings, so does Richter. At the end of the day there's always multiple interpretations of each piece I love, there's some small detail that one does better than the other and its often that I have to search around to find interpretations that really resonate with me. I can't really listen to a full composer album by a performer and love every single one. Theres bound to be differet strengths, thats the beauty. You just listen around and search for it and soon you'll find what resonates with you :) Happy listening
