  • In 2007 John Parrott and Steve Davis met for the last ever time in the world championship in this first round clash and almost inevitably the score arrived at 9-9 with a decider needed to sort out who would go through. This frame will never be remembered as a classic, but it is notable for a tricky situation involving a red over a corner pocket which Parrott tries to remove with the black and is accused by the commentators of unsportsmanlike conduct!

While the frame wasn't a classic, the match absolutely was! John racing into an almost-unassailable lead, Steve roaring back at him, John finding an extra gear to move to 9-6 up, missing the simplest yellow off its spot for the frame and match, Steve suddenly revitalised and reeling off three frames in quick succession - if anyone says they don't like snooker, show them this match! Different stages of their careers - Steve at nearly 50, still the seeded player in the draw, John at 43 on a sharp decline, but one he would stave off for one more year, with his performances at this World Championship. With qualifying wins over James Leadbetter - only 10-7 - and David Gray, plus this ginger scalp, he'd rise four places in the rankings, from 43rd to 39th. Steve - again, aged 50 - would be the world number 11 for the 2007-08 season!

I only have this frame unfortunately. Full marks to you for remembering all that - very impressive.
