Dianne Warren wrote the song, Patti record it for her new album and the Licence to Kill soundtrack. It was the second single released from the soundtrack, went top 10 on the R & B chart.
A lot of people think Celine Dion Originally song this. But, but it was Patti. Now, it did give Celine street cred - for when we heard her "we" were all like "who dares try to sing one of Patti's Songs". Then we heard the genesis of a legend. Two great versions.
This Pattie, Pattie at her best. When Pattie sings she brings it💯!! Her voice, the way she looks and the tone in her voice brings it!!!! Seeing her live is a concert in the round and she puts her heart in the song. She can kick those shoes off and she makes herself at home with the song she's sanging not singing 🎙️🎼🎵💽
Angela read her book Don't Block The Blessings. She did this video when her sister was dying of cancer in the hospital. Her sister insisted that she record the video. And she never got to see her siater alive again.
I bought this album back in the day off of hearing this song. Always felt Patti’s version superior to Celine’s cover, which went on to greater popularity. Completely agree with you about the differences in the emotion.
Your awesome reaction to this wonderful Patti LaBelle song resonates so well with me. You perfectly expressed all the pertinent aspects. I love it when she kicks her shoes off. We always waited for that part. 😊Thank you.l, Angela.
Patti filmed the video the day of or after her last sister Jackie died so her tears are real. All of the women in her family died of cancer by age 45; she is the exception as well as the sole survivor. Celine's version is a copy and you nailed the distinction. It's from the James Bond soundtrack License To Kill. You should hear the title song by Gladys Knight. 🔥
Seeing her in a live performance is fire! Check some of her live performances. I totally loved your reaction and agree. She feels it all. Thank you for reacting to this. Love all of your reactions !
Congrats on your reaction to this masterpiece of a song... it kinds of reminds me how I felt when I first heard this icon... Your reaction seems real, geniune and hope you'll post some more... Hugs, Me
My favorite version (The Original) from the sound track James Bond "License To Kill" Timothy Dalton! Check out the Intro song By Gladys Knight! Excellent!!
The flagship song for Licence to Kill was the great Gladys Knight's epic song...but this song also deserved to be at the front more rather than just end credits of the movie..
I love this version of the song!! Incredible!! Angela, I also love it that you have the mic in front of you and we can hear your spontaneous comments and reactions. Really nice!! 😊 Keep it up please. 😅
There's another big song by Patti from the 70's that got covered for a movie many years later called Lady Marmalade. If you've never heard it, that would be a great one for you.
Well if you really want to see Céline Dion singing at her best singing an emotional song here’s a gift for you that song was written for her because her cousin Karine died in Celine arms it’s the English version of the song called fly the French version is better for me because she’s way better singing in her native tongue it was at the Oprah Winfrey show live make sure to bring tissues 😢you will for sure cry here’s the video th-cam.com/video/c-Pa4H6VpHo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=h_2C4DyROBgumeoH
I love her version. Patti actually.filmed.this video the day after she lost one of her sisters. She was channeling that loss for this performance.
I believe she filmed on the same day as her sister's funeral.
the first time i heard her sing this song was in the james bond movie a license to kill.

Patti blew the roof off

"If only you knew" is a song that really shows Pattie making her claim as one of the greatest female singers of all times.
Definitely needs to be reacted to. The climax is absolutely phenomenal
A beautiful song and I like the way it builds and builds. Great performance from Patti-Labelle and emotional!-Colin Ward
😲😲😲 OMG!!! What a voice.Pattie is an angel!!❤❤❤
Love this performance.
This version was also used for the end credits on the James Bond movie License To Kill the same year.

One of the Best James Bond Songs Ever 😎👍
Yes
Pattie LaBelle, Oh People, lyrics and video never more relevant in today's world
I'm responding to your reaction after the song ended! You are really good at describing the songs and their meanings! That's it, later!
You need to listen to Patti LaBelle sings stir it up from the Beverly Hills cop soundtrack. That will get you grooving.!!
When she performs live, she always throws her shoes off on stage.
The only version that matters to me ❤❤❤❤❤
Never knew this song was not originally sung by Celine Dion
Love this one.❤

Hi Ms. D., A most beautiful Song.. ♠Mr.G..
Classic
Patti did this video the same day her sister died from cancer.
😢
Also please react to Stevie wonder: " overjoyed"
Patti Labelle is the original song
👍👍👍
She was crying because her sister just died. The powers that be made her do the video when she should have been at the funeral.
Celine does not compare to Patti ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She covered this song Patti song it first
