Is your BMW key dead? Or is it working intermittently? It happens to a lot of people because the rechargeable battery inside the key does not last forever. When this happens a lot of people try to cut the key open to replace that battery and they end up damaging the circuit board inside. That's what happened to me and I ended up having to buy a new key from the BMW dealer. Well I wish I had seen this video before I went through all that, because it would have saved me a bunch of money!
A viewer of mine named Ismail actually has a key making and fixing business and he came and hooked me up! He made me some flip keys and even fixed the bad diamond key on Black Savage. And he let me film it all for you guys!

YOU JUST SAVED ME HELLA MONEY BRO I LOVE YOU! I honestly had no idea there was another piece in my key. I spent an hour freaking out pissed off thinking I would have to sleep at work. But A: I replaced my battery, and B: learned about the little black piece that fell out that I NEEDED to start my car. So I just threw it inside the diamond, put it all together, did the relearn procedure AND MY CAR STARTS AND THE DOORS LOCK/UNLOCK!! 🙏 I'm gonna go celebrate 🍾
Thanks for the video. Went and saw Ismail 2 weeks ago. I purchased a key from Amazon and wanted him to cut and program for my car. When I got there it was the wrong key blade but lucky for me Ismail had a flip key I could use and the style I wanted. The whole process took less then 10 min and I was on my way. I have to say he's the real deal and I love my key. Thanks again.
I was searching online what to do if you lose your BMW key and came across this video, I used the phone number posted and contacted Ismail today and he came out the same day! He made a new key for my 2007 BMW Z4 as well as programmed the key fob.. AAA came out and could not get my car open. They tried to go through the window they tried for over 45 minutes until they finally gave up.. I told Ismail the story and he laughed and proceeded to show me how easy it was to get into my vehicle in less than five minutes he worked his magic and open the door through the keyhole with his tools! Oh , and he was very reasonable on price. Half of what I would have paid if I had BMW do it.. I highly recommend using the phone number if you need it!! Fantastic and simple advice. I have a 2015 X5 which came with a spare fob but would not operate the doors remotely. I opened the doors of the X5 with the working fob and returned it to the house. Once in the car with the spare fob, I held it to the steering column, where marked, started the engine, pressed down the unlock button and pressed the centre BMW button three times and CONFIGURED, the doors now lock and unlock using the spare. Thank you so very much for sharing this. George
I’ve made a few keys myself this summer and programmed them using the AK90 programmer.
One thing to mention is that you make sure you select the right chip in the dropdown menu on the right. If you choose the wrong chip, assign a key to a slot and write that hex file back to the EWS module you will brick it. There is a number on the chip inside the EWS module where you put the AK90 socket onto, it must match with what you select under EWS read/write.
Arno Bruynen , yes you are right but that rarely happens since in order to read the ews in the first place you ha e to choose the correct chip number. Still a very good note to anyone working with AK90

this is the BEST and most reliable method for reprogramming remote keys, especially for 2 keys! I tried all the others.
Just had Ismael cut a new flip key for my E46 ..... he is very knowledgeable and does excellent work.....will totally recommend him.

That is so awesome! The 'hold the unlock, then 1,2,3, go' worked for me to get my key, which wasn't working at all to work again. No replacements, no soldering, no battery replace, nothing. So cool. Thank you so much--what might have made it go unprogrammed in the first place though?
Programmed 2 new keys slot 5 and 6. All three started the car and remote worked. Then some how the two new ones lost their remote sync. re-synced with car and now only one new one remote works. Luckily all three start the car. Still researching. Thanks for the video

I have the AK 90 and taught myself to code the keys and get a local locksmith to cut them for me. Here in New Zealand we import a lot of BMW's from Japan all there keys are 2 button infra red, you can still use a diamond 3 button key and program it

Love the video thankyou for the info ,I live in Las Vegas & theres plenty of locksmiths here ,but they don't like to mess with BMW's cuz of our EWS..I am going to send my new keys and my OME key to this man and hopfully upon return it'll work and solve my starting issue..
I had to call 4 different locksmiths to get mine cut. I cant believe how I had to hunt considering the town I live in has a ton of BMWs. I should buy the machine and start a cottage industry.

Battery tabs are WELDED on, not soldered. The terminal ends are solderable, but the battery itself is not, unless you file off the coating.
Basic clear nail polish would be perfect for re-coating those connections. You can find it being used to successfuly seal/waterproof various basic electronics around the web and the TH-cams.
I assume you are still making keys today. Have you noticed the mileage when new pcf is written is different to the ews that was read.

How can I change the frequency on the four-button remote? I have one like the one you have in the video, but I haven't been able to change the frequency.
For what it's worth; the previous owner of my 2007 BMW X3 M Sport 3.0si tried to change the battery in his primary key and failed. It still unlocks the driver's door and starts the car. So does the plastic emergency key I found in the glove box. I'm the only one driving it so I don't loose any presets.
I have the ability to solder in a new battery but I don't even want to do that when it's only the remote lock/unlock that is affected.
I don't find it a hassle to just walk up to the car and unlock the door. I won't be spending $200 with BMW if that is all that is a problem.

Hello i have a BMW E39 540iA 1996/6 model. And i have two old OEM keys the rectangular ones. I went to a locksmith to get a new diamond key coded and it worked remote, but we couldnt find the EWS-module so i said i wanna see my local shop to ask them to find it for us. I then realized after going home that maybe EWS on 1996 is located at passanger glovebox. So he programmed the locking/unlock only for the new diamond key, then my 2 OEM keys stopped working. He said maybe go to BMW. Today i found this video so i tried re-syncing my OEM keys in the sequence and it WORKED wonderful so now my orginal keys working again. And the new diamond key remote stopped working. Could it be if they are in the same slot? Or why cant i re-sync the diamond key in sequence after my OEM keys

This is good stuff. I am waiting on my replacement batteries hopefully this week. I read on some other posts that the programming cycle was 5 clicks into the on position, then 3 button presses when holding unlock. It didn't do anything, so I'm guessing the battery is properly dead. Which ignition position did you leave the key in for a few seconds?

50’s Kid, is it possible to change my car key system if i take the door lock, ignition key cylinder, tumbler and remote key sensor behind the glove box from another? I have a spare car i use for parts, both 325i. Is there something else that needs to be changed? Or can i just take the remote key sensor (dont really know the official name of this) so my remote locking will work? I tried loading the AK 90 software on a computer with XP - would not load. At last when to windows 10 and had no problems. Another problem was the cable connecting the AK90 to the chip on the ESW3 board didn't have a "Dot". Solution: Find the arrow on the inside of the cable, while looking at the inside of the cable, place the dot on the outside of the cable 90 degrees counterclockwise from the arrow. Check: when the cable is attached to the EWS3, the arrow should be pointing to the inside of the board. Oh, one more thing: I had some difficulty getting a good connection between cable and the chip. Solution: I trimmed the white covering on the connector - it was overlapping the connector on the corners and not allowing the connector to fit snuggly on the chip.

Edward Webber take of the intake manifold watch out for back connections be orginaized you can do it in back yard have a good tool set watch a video and do it to make sure you get it done nobody cares if your computers out there with you . You just saved 400-600$

Awesome video learned a lot and was able to program a2 keys. but for some reason i can only get one key to open and close my doors. the second one wont program to unlock, i even put new batteries and still not working. you guys have any idea why my 2nd key wont program to unlock?

Would I have to reprogram my ecu to the new ews and then program the key to the ews? Or would the new ews just be a plug in play kind of thing leaving me to just have to program the key to the ews? Nice video but how do you program a key if you have a start/stop button?
I have a 2012 F11 were it say "low battery" and when I put a new battery in it takes about 2-3 month and it says "low battery" again.
I still use it but some times it says "no key" and I can't start unless I lock and unlock a couple of times and it has been like this for 5 years.
Can't you just get a new key cut and then turn it in the ignition to program it?

The best option is to just order a new key from thebmwminiparts store. They are cheaper than most dealers. It will be a real bmw key cut to your vin and pre-programmed for your car. You have to also send proof of ownership for your car, obviously.
will it automatically unlock the car at that point? my car is locked with a lost key

You didn't show how to transplant the ELMOS immobiliser chip from your old diamond key to the new remote board salvaged from a random BMW key.
Hey i am new to the bmw thing. my question is without the coding, would you be able to pair a new key to the car and for the car to start? or coding have to be done first for the car to recognize the fob to start?
Great video! I picked up an F Series key, got it to pair, however it won't start my car. Locks and unlocks, but will not start the car. Thoughts? When i put it in the Ak90, it reads it fine. Did miss something? Does the transmitter need to be in a special spot inside the F series FOB? Thanks!!
i dont know what i am doing wrong. i cleaned the 0D64J chip and even soldered each pin to get a good connection but it still comes up with "pin no touch".. tried again with another programmer, the same. de-soldered the chip from off the PCB and put it in a dedicated socket making sure i have a 100% connection on each pin.. guess what.. pin no touch.
guess this does not work on UK cars.

Interesting topic. On a similar note, I would like to install a pager alarm in my impreza and was looking for a tidy solution. Is there a way to make the all-in-one key? Like, taking an aftermarket alarm system and moving the immobilizer and actual key from oem key in to aftermarket one, that came with alarm system. Do these things exist, or do we still have to carry a bunch or keys end remotes?
