- Today for #WolfeRidgeWednesday we show you how to replace the main 30 amp fuse on a Honda GX630 v-twin engine. The Honda GX630 is the standard engine on our SHO and HDI log splitters. This same procedure would apply to the GX690 as well.
Tools needed for this job are minimal: a number 2 Phillips screwdriver and a flat screw driver.
We will be making more of these maintenance videos as time goes on. Let us know in the comments if there is a specific maintenance procedure that you want to see! You can see our entire Maintenance and How-To Video section here: wolferidgemfg....

Great Information Bob. Just had this happen that the engine won’t crank and I just started troubleshooting. This is the best video to follow. I appreciate you taking your time and the camera being steady. Hope this is the issue as I go on. To the other guys that talk too fast and can’t hold the camera steady….don’t quit your day job. Happy Thanksgiving. 😮
I had that issue once before. I actually had to read the manual to figure it out! Who would have ever guessed that kinda info is in the book 😅
I’ve had this happen a few times on the Vallee Sawmill that is powered by a Honda. This video for sure will help others. 👍🏻
Good demonstration video 👍 Good reference material that will help a lot of people 😊
good info Bob, should help a lot of people
Good info. Well done Bob👍🏻👍🏻
Great job Bob!👍👍
i just had to do that ,wasn't hard at all great video Bob !!!
Helpful video. I did a video when this happened to my SHO a year or so ago, and noticed a lot of corrosion where the blades of the fuse go in. I am guessing that was the cause of the blown fuse. I used some electrical contact cleaner on it and never had any other issues.
Very helpful information!
Will your new dealer be able to ship one to there jackson michigan location?
One reason for a potential blown fuse, overloading the motor by trying to push to gnarly of a round through to quickly.
Just like your automobile. You will hear the relays click and power on.
How common is it that this fuse blows? I presume it has happened on your machines, since you invested in making this video. What is it the cause? My trucks and cars over the years has never blown a fuse. Is it a design problem with this Honda engine?
Hi Arne. It’s a good question, personally I think it’s an issue of moisture but it’s very selective. If you search Google and TH-cam for it, it’s a well known phenomenon that seems to be really prevalent with pressure washers.
Sometimes the fuse lasts a year sometimes 5. I did notice when doing this video, that the fuse holder itself was improved from the last one I had apart. There is extra rubber gasket in the holder that might be the solution to this problem.
The other thing is, if something does get shorted out, this fuse is there to protect it. So that could be a cause of the fuse blowing too.
Long story short it isn’t SUPER common but I see the question or concern asked once every 1-2 months. We thought making this video would be helpful for our maintenance / how to video section. And who knows maybe it helps someone else that has this style engine on a completely different piece of equipment.
Thanks for watching!
