I wish there was an hack like: Sonic 1: Taxman Edition; that adds all features from the remaster, except achievements and leaderboards (that aren't possible) and the widescreen, HD and locked 60 fps.
Only thing is, modern widescreen wouldn't be able to be implemented. Given that the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive was built for displaying video in a 4:3 aspect ratio (the standard for TVs at the time), at a specific resolution due to VRAM constraints. That doesn't mean that widescreen isn't impossible. However, it would mean letterboxing the game. While modern TVs have an option to stretch the image, the Genesis is still only producing a 256×244 (256×240 in PAL regions) video signal. That basically means you'll be dealing with screen crunch. And if Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis on the Game Boy Advance taught us anything... well, you know the rest.

Tails in Sonic 1 is probably one of those romhacks that don't really support the YM2612 correctly. It might sound proper if you use a YM3438-based Mega Drive, like a Model 2 or the very last revision of the Model 1.
@@redhotsonic I know the results for you. Puto's Tails in Sonic 1 hack sounds perfect on model 2 ASIC-YM3438 revisions, just not the original discrete YM2612 but I have only tested this on PAL units not NTSC so the result maybe different (although I doubt it.)
