    I just finished Tales of Berseria yesterday. Before that, I read that the events of Zestria takes place 1000 years after Berseria. I realized after that I have a copy of Zestria in my collection I bought more than 2 years ago lol. I think I'm going to dust off my copy after I finish symphonia first.

    Tales of Zestiria was my first JRPG and Tales of Game. Admittedly it has problems but it's still fun. Hopefully, after Tales of Arise we'll get a continuation of this world which both Berseria and Zestiria have made. I wanna see both *SPOILERS* Velvet and Sorey wake up and team up if that's possible.

    The 2 main reasons I loved this game was the battle system and character progression, I found the gameplay and progression fun and addicting, I know there's a lot of jrpg fans that play these games purely for the story but that's just not me, don't get me wrong I actually did enjoy the story but thats not usually why I enjoy jrpgs, I just don't see how you expect ppl to take your review seriously if you ignored a huge chunk of the games progression and played on the easiest difficulty, I would have been too embarrassed to post this review

    Good to see you enjoyed Zestiria, it's easily one of the most hated Tales games. I played it when it came out, and still adored it and had lots of fun despite its flaws. Also the cast is so freaking lovable. After playing Berseria, it has way more impact now.

      Juan Alvarado I feel like tales of vesperia made people hate this game.. vesperia is like ffvii of tales series.. airship, boat, world map, non linear paths, etc. this game is so.. not serious and the gameplay mechanics isn’t that great. In vesperia every single character had a backstory and the voice acting was amazing..

    • @willckz
      @willckz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yeah I don't get the hate on this game at all either. A lot of the comparisons to Berseria don't make any sense, either.
    The complaint about the randomness and grindiness of weapons is DOUBLY so for Berseria. You either get the weapon with the exact skills you want... or not. Not the exact permutation you want? Trash. At least in Zestiria, you can make use of a crap item by wiping out it's skills and then combining it to at least get a bonus for some other item. There's at least SOMETHING you can do with crap items. Berseria? No such thing.
    Combat? They're really not all that different. You can free run if you want, which makes it nearly identical to Berseria. Armatization gives way more possibilities for battle than Berseria. And the strategy commands to tell everyone to defend or attack was way more tactical than Berseria.
    Other than Maotelus being a complete plot chess piece with zero personality that was complete bullshit considering where he came from as a character in Berseria, all the characters were lovely, just as good as Berseria. Hell, it's even slightly less of a walking simulator.
    Oh, and the soundtrack in Zestiria is WAY longer, and also better most of the time. Go ahead and listen to the whole OST of both on youtube and decide for yourself, but it's honestly not even close. Zestiria is many times as many tracks, and are all good to listen to even outside the game. Berseria's OST is mostly environmental and full of a lot of just straight up distortion, which works for some scenes but is surprisingly horrible as music.
    Anyways, don't listen to the hate. It's equivalent to Berseria with a few slight differences. If you like one, the other will be more of the same.

      note that it starts out as 2.5d (you walk a line between you and your target) with no free-run, and you unlock free-run somewhat early, whereas it's the standard in berseria from the beginning. a ton of people complain endlessly about this one point. just full disclosure.

    Just finished the game and it's late 2020. ToZ gathered dust on my shelf since release on Ps4. Every time I tried to get into it I was so off-put by how generic it was that I couldn't even get past the second town. I decided to play it on easy so I can finally have my own opinion of the story and was quite surprised by how okay it was. I beat it and the bonus dungeon but have no interest in buying DLC for more. It was still a fun ride, but ToB will always stick with me more.

    I don't like "fusing" with party members. I want my party members and my main character to feel like they are useful and can stand on their own with their own power. To me this whole characters fusing together thing just muddles things up and creates more disconnect between me and the characters.

    • @JRPGFanatic
      @JRPGFanatic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not likely. It's been a long time since I've looked at Zestiria so I'm relying mostly on my imperfect memory. Characters were much better in Vesperia (especially if you saw all the optional events) and the story was also better. I prefer combat in newer Tales games since it's much easier to pick up but Vesperia's combat is complex and there is a lot you can do with it. That said, I'm just considering Zestiria by itself. You would also need to play Berseria to make it a complete experience to fill more of the story and characters to actually make it worth it. Personally I liked the Zestiria/Berseria duo more than Vesperia.

    Going back to the battle system, I love the complications and don't consider it a "grind" because the armatization is so original and I don't find it in other games. I love spending time choosing skills and stacking them... I mean when you play a game it means you really have time to play it... and I don't play a lot of games one after the other so I spend more time with a single game and not be in a hurry to get into the next one. The system is NOT outdated at all... playing Berseria was fun too but I like Zestiria combining such wonderful music and skits and new battle mechanics that are challenging to unravel that I just really love it! ^_^

    Ignoring skills and abilities. Honestly, it's what I do as well.
    I'm so busy always grinding equipment and whatnot, I never have a chance to make a character build. The moment something reaches max level, it's on the next equipment.
    Honestly, it's not a terrible game, but it's very rough. There's simultaneously too much going on and not enough exciting thing to keep you interested.
    I'm about thirty hours in and it's beena chore at points.

      @@mathewhosier9739 I'm not sure the original comment is a criticism on gameplay-heavy JPRGs. From my understanding of their post, their criticism is that despite the complexity, it ends up feeling more empty than it actually is.

    No matter how hard I wish or how hard I try, I can't understand the hate of Vesperia fanboys who kept sh*tting on this game and asking people not to buy it. Now they are desperately trying to sell Vesperia to the point of really pushing it (more like begging?). I love Zesty because I love the characters. I didn't pay much attention to the villains... This was supposed to be a 3-part story... that might explain the lack in many details that's supposed to be put in the extension which didn't materialize becoz of the bashing it got. Idk why people complain about the difficulty of the gear or whatever. I love the thinking part. Maybe gamers just wanna have to play easy and get it done with.
    ALSO warning... Vesperia fans use multiple accounts to spread their hate. The hate is absurd becoz they don't say anything specific and when they do... it's like they're saying only Zesty has those flaws and any other game is perfect.
    It's how the hate is expressed which is weird and scary. As a reviewer, it's nice you didn't apologize to Vesperia fans/Tales fans for saying positive things about Zesteria, because OTHER reviewers did just that. They're kinda scared of getting TOXICATED, maybe. And that makes their objectivity questionable.
    I understand the flaws you pointed out, and I agree with some, but I still enjoyed Zestiria despite all that.
    I guess that means the game's good points are not overwhelmed by those little flaws. I take character as the most important, so I easily fell in love with this game.
    One thing I disagree with. Some movements are more fluid and natural than Berseria's. And ZESTY MUSIC just took my breath away... It's the best in the RPG universe for me. But that's just me.
