Ward's Lake, Shillong | Cherry Blossom in Meghalaya | Shillong Sightseeing

Ward’s Lake located in the heart of Shillong (Meghalaya), is a horse-shoe shaped artificial lake which was built during the British era in 1894. Named after Sir William Ward (the then Chief Commissioner of Assam), this beautifully maintained lake is one of the most visited tourist destinations of Shillong. Our visit was just before the Cherry Blossom Festival which is celebrated in Ward’s Lake every year during the month of November end or December beginning. This year the festival falls on 25th - 27th November 2021. At this time of the year, the entire hill station of Shillong is filled with pink hues.
Also when you travel from Guwahati to Shillong by road, you will be welcomed by the very vast Umiam Lake. You can choose to go for an overnight stay in a houseboat or take a calm boat ride at the lake or simply watch a gorgeous sunset at the lake.

We too tend to skip it every time we visit Shillong. We both only had vivid memories from our respective childhoods. And this time we happen to be in Meghalaya during the cherry blossom season and with a friend's recommendation, we added it to our list. Next time if you are visiting Meghalaya in this season then don't skip it 😀🌸
