Hey Laura, I have another question! I really need to find ways to train Freja off leash, even though my hill is not fenced. Do you recommend a GPS collar or a wireless collar? I am really nervous about using collars on Freja because she is really strong when it comes to pulling. Are flat collars safe for an over 60 pounds 18 month golden retriever that pulls. I still use a gentle lead when we walk. I started doing shoe training on her. I do still use the clicker during training. I have to take a break from it because my ears are very sensitive to the clicking noise. I really like that cool doggy used service dog vest. Freja is very colorful in her gear. if I do not want my dog to be vested in pet friendly stores. I just use the service dog leash on her non-pull harness.

I have been given her pup aspirin for the pain and massaging her joints. we missed our atlas service dog event in Seattle due to being sick, and the heat was way too hot for her.
@@DoggyU I might look into the GPS collar in the future. I just have to be creative with how I can train Freja off leash. I just leave the leash on her and let her go in the yard and supervise her. I have to use a lot of consequences with her behavior since she is in the adolescence stage. Do you recommend a flat collar for golden retrievers that are over 60 pounds and pull? I don’t like using on Freja because she is so strong. Where can I get a leash that’s hands-free and goes around my waist? I really want to use that type of leash when I am out with Freja ,so I can worry about how awkward I am.
@@nicoledelieto1735 I would not recommend a waist leash if you don't have solid loose leash walking skills. You'll want to get those skills up before atteching your dog to you. I use martingale collars but generally that is while the dog is actively working and in heel position, and I would not use them for long-lining or if I wasn't actively getting a really good heel.
So I have a German Shepherd and he obviously has a lot of hair. Would the ruffwear swamp cooler thing be good for keeping him cool? We live in the southern USA so it gets hot here.
I have used it successfully with coated German Shepherds. It's not a "game changer" per se but I think it is generally helpful. They can also be helpful to keep the sun off their back. I would opt for their bulkier, longer one with more coverage: amzn.to/49STKSG
Do i have to have more than two vests? I just want a heavy duty harness and leash for i case my dog gets attacked on duty or just ‘out in the wild’. Some patches and that kind of stuff, i don’t think we’d need special vests for going somewhere.
I'm not really sure what you mean by this. I like to have a harness that means we're doing hiking/walking etc. and a vest that is specifically for work so that the dog understands when they're "on duty." Hope that helps!
@@ZestySp1cee Legally, under the ADA you don't even need to have one vest. However, I do recommend a vest that denotes your dog as a service dog and having only one vest is totally fine.

I had to take it easy on the exercise because she has been sore from her shoulder and joints. I still cannot afford to get her shoulder x-rayed or take her back to the vet.
I use positive reinforcement when I train Freja all the time. I just have to get her more treats and get her back in her training classes.
@@DoggyU I don’t even know what I mean by this, I think the point is; is it necessary to have more than 2 vests?
@@ZestySp1cee Legally, under the ADA you don't even need to have one vest. However, I do recommend a vest that denotes your dog as a service dog and having only one vest is totally fine.
I’m definitely a gear nerd 😂
lol me too!
I make biothane gear and looking for sponsors if you're interested. I also messaged you on Facebook about it.
I'm not taking on any new partners or affiliates at this time but I'd be happy to test out your gear if you're looking for feedback!
none of this gear is required by law. Read ADA
That is correct. None of this gear is required. And, some of it makes life easier, or your dog more comfortable and/or safer from certain weather :)
