The thing is that many A7Siii might not be using the cinematographer stuff, otherwise they would have an FX3. This camera was a hit before any of the new stuff (still have my OG a7s I). The the other hand the FX30 is not a photo camera so it makes sense to pair it with the a6700, that is probably why they included custom luts. Sony should just buy phantom lut and include it their cameras. Just saying
It's a seriously good update for a 4ish year old camera. I just bought a mint used one today from my local camera shop for $2,100. Why? TIMECODE!!! The one feature you didn't mention. 😉There are no other FF cameras with an EVF that accept timecode. I am hopeful they will enable that feature on the A7RV as well. As much as I love shooting with the FX3/FX30, I detest lugging around an external monitor because the lcd's are not great.
I think I mentioned timecode, but I didn't spend much time on it. It is a ridiculously good camera which is why I decided to stay pretty positive except for the whole licensing thing at the end
I love the new touch menus that slide out on my A7S III ... my Panasonic MFT cameras have had them for ages so it's a welcome change. I've always shot MFT and FF Sonys. There will be no perfect camera, only something pretty close to it. Learn the tool you are using and go out there and capture content ... as a professional filming weddings some of the best content I have ever captured wasn't at work but on holiday using my Panasonic G9 + 14-140mm in Bangladesh this year, I was blown away with the photos I got with that set up. We are so busy chasing the latest and greatest we forget the basics.
Hi, On the Sony A7S3 with this update the raw output in the new DCI24P format towards Atomos Ninja V does not work, if you output a logarithmic signal it works but output Raw to record the image in the Proresraw codec a white screen appears and I am afraid that Atomos will have to output a new firmware to correct this. @@dathofilms The recordings from Sony A7sIII to Atomos Ninja work perfectly, they always have, but since the last update of this camera the DCI24P format when exporting in RAW files to Atomos Ninja does not work as it should. If you want to record the ninja in Slog3, there is no problem, but in the raw system it does not work. I imagine that the people at Atomos have not had time to release a firmware that adjusts this Sony update since it is very recent. At least it is What the Atomos technical service answered me.
When did this update drop, I totally missed it. I feel like they're trying to make their interface menu touch friendly like how Canon's operate, that's my guess. I heard later in the year shutter angle will be implemented into the camera software with an update, I'm hoping it's true. Great video... thanks for the update to the update, lol. In case anyone is uneasy about updating their camera and or damaging your camera due to an update, try letting an electronic store like best buy do the update for you.

Do you plan to use autofocus? If so, the FX30 is the better choice 100%. If you plan to use manual focus lenses, then the X-H2S has a lot of cool capabilities and qualities that might be of interest, but even still, the FX30 is easier and probably more reliable especially with the internal, active cooling system. You'll also find a LOT more people using Sony for video, so if you end up collaborating or shooting with multiple cameras, the FX30 will integrate more easily
I liked this feature on my A7IV but seeing Reddit I might turn it off. The shutters are more delicate than the sensor. The A7SIII has a pretty good anti-dust system. I have both cameras and I will start turning off the shutter curtain closing when powered off because if a piece of dust does hit the shutter it's much harder to fix than using a sensor cleaning kit.
Eh, if you don't mind the plasticky build quality, no front dial, fewer custom buttons, only one SD card, no CF Express, micro HDMI, no EVF, overheating... then yeah. Lol, the ZVE-1 is a great option for some people and the price alone makes it a valid option, but I wouldn't say it outperforms the a7SIII in anything but animal eye detect
If only it didn't take them 2 years to release software-only features that were being made available to cheaper cameras over those 2 years, maybe I wouldn't have switched to Lumix Also still not even remotely close to what these cameras should have for the price
I just did the DCI upgrade in the Creator's app... It was on the screen for a second, but the app I believe said: instailing ... Leads me to believe they didn't fully test these updates as a good amount of A1 users reported the update broke their camera and cannot be user fixed.
This update feels like such a minimum effort from Sony. Bare minimum so people cant complain anymore. I'm pretty sure this was the last update for the sIII

🫠 Sony makes cameras with more megapixels if that's what you're after. Not to say that the a7SIII is on the level of an Arri Alexa, but those cinema cameras have similar resolution to the a7SIII so, clearly, it's not always about the megapixels

After attending GCI, Global Cinematography Institute, in Los Angeles in 2016, I signed into several intensive classes with Arri Alexa & Sony high end cams. It’s basically a load of crap for most videographers. To be honest, there’s some niche stuff for cinematic geeks maybe but to have to re-do all your settings and custom buttons for marginal stuff is not for me. Focus breathing could have been nice but I have Tamron glass which won’t work with that feature. 4K DCI as well but you need to be shooting in 24p (I use 30) and you have to use V90 cards or better so very expensive. I use V60 cards which is still common for most shooters. Cloud stuff I’ll never use. Fancy new menu is nice but I already have all that at my fingertips with the Function Button. So honestly a bit underwhelming after 4 years Sony. 😤
no you can shoot in DCI 50 or 60 P, the problem is that it is fake DCI (like FX3) it only crop vertical without add horizontal résolution, then it zoom in the picture to fit 4096 with pixel bining... all youtuber said we have DCI 4K hourra, but doesn't know what is a true DCI, it is terrible and not professional.

TC it’s huge for me too and you don’t need the Sony proprietary cable, a Deity C23 for the FX3/FX30 works as well, I tested it.

Nicely done! I've been finding those sides menus are a lot more stubborn than the others, in terms of touch - takes a few tries to show/hide it.

Fixing known issues for years doesn’t scream a whole new camera to me but I guess this what the algorithm wants to see, so…

Basically upgrade to the ZV-E1 to get all the omissions and the new AI chip from the A7R5?
For some people, that would be the move, but that camera has some compromises, too; so I wouldn't call it an "upgrade" in every instance
