    Thank you for taking time to share this back when you did so. It was just right, I think, and like others here, I liked the tips and humor you interjected.
    My undersink shutoff tends to leak, like yours does, too. I learned to tighten the retention nut on that faucet handle slightly whenever I had occasion to turn it.
    I think I will spare my aging knees tomorrow and just shut the whole house water off instead of crawling on my knees under the sink. Seems like it ought to work fine.
    One last thing, re the silicone grease. I think if will be applied, it should go on the bottom (insertion) end of the rubber gaskets, since that is what will come into contact with the housing first. A small thing, but I think it makes sense.

    This was the best video I found regarding replacing a Moen faucet cartridge. Annoyingly, it was the last one that I looked at so it took me all afternoon to replace the two cartridges. This video had one element the other's didn't have--that you have to turn the little white thing on the cartridge to align it with the faucet handle. Once I knew that, I had the job done. Thank you for these instructions.

    Thank you! I was killing myself trying to get the cartridge out. The trick is to get it started separating it from the brass cylinder it sits and and then get it out with the vice grips. Don't worry about mangling the cartridge as you will be replacing it.

    We used this excellent video yesterday to install this cartridge in our bathroom faucet, thanks. It took longer to remove the cartridge than I thought but eventually we got it out using this method with the screwdriver instead of pulling it out with pliers as we first saw on another video. The cartridge broke when we took it out and had to use need pliers to get the remaining old cartridge out. But all worked out in the end run.

      Great to hear!

  • @hojni

    Great video!!! But, no matter how hard I tried, I could not get my screwdriver under the lip of the cartridge to pry it out.
    Ended up searching for a "How to remove stuck Moen sink cartridges" video. Used that video's trick of grabbing the stalk of the cartridge vertically with Vicegrips and using a large screwdriver with the Vicegrips to lever the cartridge up and out. Worked like a champ. After 23 years, that cartridge was stuck, stuck, stuck.
    Moen did send replacement cartridges for free, but I got the impression that newer fixtures no longer have the lifetime warranty

      @@Hindsight101 In the end your video was really helpful to me in removing the handle and selecting the correct cartridge from Lowe's. However, I guess Moen puts the same cartridge in multiple styles of bodies because at the point you used the water-pump pliers at 2:20 I found my cartridge was deeply recessed and required tool #14272 to remove it. I bought the 1224 cartridge and was ready to replace the old leaky one . First I found that the under sink shut off valve does not completely close the flow of water . In the basement , there are multiple old valves but none of them seem to shut off the water to the kitchen . The landlord will not help , so I am wondering if it's possible to replace the cartridge , even with a small trickle of water ?

    • @Hindsight101
      @Hindsight101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done it but it’s not fun and messy. As long as there isn’t a lot of water pressure you sure be able. Since I don’t know your setup, I must say at your own risk.

    • @StoyTheOld
      @StoyTheOld 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hindsight101 Thanks for the timely reply . The landlord is obviously not interested in helping , so going the messy route is looking like my only option ( unless we call an actual plumber ) . The situation is irritating because I am able to do some basic plumbing repairs , but the inability to shut off the water not only complicates this repair - I worry that any future water issue might become an emergency .

      @@Hindsight101 I will check again.
      It was a Peerless Faucet and when I contacted them they sent a similar replacement for $0!
      I also was going to hire a plumber as they came out and quoted the job for 3 faucets. The 1 mentioned above and 2 other bathroom ones. The quote was over $700 and maybe worse when all said and done.
      So I contacted Moen and they sent me 6 new cartridges for $0 and I replaced them myself. No more leaking.

    Those under sink water shut off valves ALWAYS seem to be an additional point of failure. For most smaller single family homes, especially if you have Moen faucets which seem to be always failing, I think you’d be miles ahead if you just had an easily accessible main water shut off valve. Do away with the the time, trouble and expense of having to replace those corroded shut off valves every time you need to replace a faucet core. Those shut off valves are not dependable and are just a nuisance to deal with - they provide no convenience if every time you need to actually use them, they also fail❗️👈 🤬
