An extremely realistic and highly inventive design. High amounts of creativity and ingenuity are required for such amazing creations so kudos to the creator.
That's a very ingenious design, by far the best i ever seen, and it mimics a tunnel-borer machine. One flaw however: no way to transfer stuff OFF the ship to your refinery, no connectors.
So far i haven´t seen a better ship!! It´s absolutely amazing and looks very realistic to me...reminds me of Machines drilling to Zion :D (or rather O.o)
gerpar250 Well this one is already making the game laggy, so let alone a bigger one. SE has some serious performance issues, especially with mining. And now that planets are out, it's putting computers on their knees. Mine has 8 gigs of RAM and can run most recent games with high settings, and yet I can't run SE smoothly.
good job dude I just got the game and I want to be able to make stuff like that I mean you hollowed out an entire asteroid in seconds takes me more like 20 minutes XD and that's with the top grade stuff xD
this ship only works for destroying asteroids using the right click function if you want this for mining ore you're out of luck I made a exact copy of this ship and it does not work in survival for ore mining still a cool concept though
that is way to fucking cool, you could even use leftover wholes at deep bases inside the asteroid with a wicked ass tunnel leading it. dude, i must know how u made this!
***** Thanks. This ship is obsolete since the andvanced rotor came out. You can find an updated model on the workshop if you're interested (steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=331552338&searchtext=steinbrecher), but it's not working very well though. I may create a new version for the arrival of panels, maybe.
***** Grinders would work better, plus you could salvage a whole base worth of materials. Star Core Neat ship man. now that they have the advanced toolbars, you should set a hotkey for the engines to idle at about 10-15kn, that way you don't have to throttle the thrust like that. It should auto through the asteroid (or planet). If you get a bunch of shifting while its on auto, turn off tool shake, or slap a bunch of gyroscopes on it.
few recommendations to improve this a little bit 1 put thrusters in back to override so they keep speed around 1-2m/s and hotkey them on off so you can quickly stop them if something goes wrong 2 max out gyroscope override. this will make it so even if you move mouse as fast as you can the ship will not spin around. it can still move up down left right forward and back but not in any other way.
What this machine reminds me of is Tunnel Boring Machine used to make subway's and tunnels in mountains for trains and automobiles. Incredible. Well built.
A quick question on how ships with rotors work. Because the rotor is basically a seperate ship. how do you sort of mitigate all of the angular motion that results from having that connected to your ship? I've been trying to build a smaller version of this, but it always wants to tilt and never fly in a straight line.
There is an advanced rotor between head and body for transferring ore. Connectors just stop head in correct position because author don't use script for that.
Trying to emulate your design, I've gone with necessary systems as a skeleton and have been adding parts to it. At the current stage I've got the drill complete and armored for some weight, but it seems to get caught on asteroids and spins the secondary part of the ship.
have you tested this in MP and on DS? i've run into lot of problems on DS either using rotors or pistons. Some construction seems to work, but some explode as soon, as second user logs onto DS and gets in visible range of rotor/piston.
+setogod ]-[ That movie screwed with me so bad when I was a kid... Someone should rebuild that drill from "The Core" and see how well it actually works. (Might need a need front end though)
Mount one of these things onto a large ship and you can turn any sizeable asteroid into a well-camouflaged and well-protected base in a matter of minutes.
Very effective but just one big problem : Reactors inside the ship? The same with reactors outside will be more realistic. It is a good ship. I work about the same kind to drill asteroid and fill cargos with materials.
Yeah I'm not a fan of internal reactors either, but there isn't any other place on the outside where I could have put them. As long as there is enough space between the thruster and a block in front of it, the thruster doesn't damage anything, so it's acceptable.
Nice design. It look nice, as it rotates. I haven't work with rotors much, so I really haven't grasp what they really do.How does it handle. Is it smooth. Or does it shake a lot
Thanks ! Rotors are nice but like pistons they have some serious problems. For example it's a major pain in the ass to make something as simple as a door with more than 1 rotor. I think they should really work on that. And yeah rotors are smooth and powerful, but also a little flexible sometimes, which can cause damages.
This is absolutely epic. I'm building one of these as soon as I get the game and a new computer. Just wondering, how much resources did it collect, and how much time did it took to make that hole ?
holy shit, that's certainly a step up from the mining ship i've built. well done. only problem would be how would you dock it to a base to transfer all the materials to where they need to go? or would you just use this thing as mobile base? but then how would you dock other ships to it, if they need some of those materials? carrying everything by hand would certainly seem a little tedious, afer a while. regardless of that, very well done, good job.
That connector design is pretty damn clever.
Ba Sing Se will fall.
I'll have to keep this design in mind when I build my deployable planet core driller
That is a very smart drill head...
An extremely realistic and highly inventive design. High amounts of creativity and ingenuity are required for such amazing creations so kudos to the creator.
what you have here good sir is a bona fide TBM tunnel boring machine. well done. large scale mining operations will never be the same.
I've always loved tunnel bores! This is a work of art!
that ship has sharp teeth, good work. i have just got the game and with only 7 hours in game i can only dream of building something like that.
Of all the mining ships i have seen this is the most realistic looking. Great work mate.
6 people who disliked don't like "slick holes". Awesome build man, well done
I've been playing this game as long as you have and this is pure nostalgia
This ship is amazing, can you please upload it to the steam worshop?
That's a very ingenious design, by far the best i ever seen, and it mimics a tunnel-borer machine.
One flaw however: no way to transfer stuff OFF the ship to your refinery, no connectors.
currently making a scaled down version in my survival with a friend. this is so cool.
Found it in wrokshop!!!
"Asteroid Drill - Steinbrecher [no mods]"
That's what your looking for.
Real nice ship man. I was thinking about a planet drill too, but your ship is way better than my tries ;)
Idk about anyone else but this was wayyyy too satisfying lol
impressive design and very well thought out idea !
This is insanely cool, nice job
WOAH. That's pure awesomeness!
Holy ship! That is awesome
that was awesome, great job man!
That's incredible.
Coolest and most efficient miner i've seen yet, definitly deserves a like.Edit: Are you german? Greetings from Austria anyway. ;)
So far i haven´t seen a better ship!! It´s absolutely amazing and looks very realistic to me...reminds me of Machines drilling to Zion :D (or rather O.o)
friggin awesome, like the big tunnel borers
Now that's well made drill well done well done
Fantastic ship, love it!
by far one of the best mining ships to date, and fast too
Damn that is one sick build. Very nice. Just played it a few hours so i hope i will be able to build something similar :)
What if you drilled a massive hole into an asteroid, then created a tube shaped base to secure inside the hole with landing gears.
In vanilla you can't operate with asteroids this way. You have to put a block into asteroid and than use any type of intersection.
Incredible, look at that perfect smooth cylinder.
Hmm, how well would it work against large ships?
gerpar250 Depends whether they are made of stone :)
Star Core *Cough cough* I think you mean...
Depends on whether they are made of stone ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
gerpar250 Attach grinders.
We must have a planet sized one of these, or at least a moon sized one.
gerpar250

wow, amazing idea about using connector like that
good job dude I just got the game and I want to be able to make stuff like that I mean you hollowed out an entire asteroid in seconds takes me more like 20 minutes XD and that's with the top grade stuff xD
Best mining ship, so far. Very impressive.
Impressive, I was hoping you'd show off the spoils though...
You, Sir, have way more patience in building than I, Lol, amazing creation!

hmm, when i get a rig capable of playing without dreadful fps, ill look into it. computers aint cheap lol

Love it! That's a well-made miner!

Thats what i thought too when i saw it, I was thinking "Space freeway tunneling machine"
i was thinking the same thing once i saw the face of the drill head
Vanewolf29 yeah it's called a mole. Pretty amazing
Wow dude amazing work!!!
It looks like a 12v car socket.
Really cool!
I`m in love. Just started with that game, but I look at ppl projects and feel awesome :)
This video used amaze, it was very effective!
the new advanced spinning bits that can connect to connectors means the head can transport to the body while spinning now.
this is just insane!! :-D thanks dude
thats coolest thing i ever saw is it on workshop?
"Steinbrecher" ^^ Classic German Engineering seen! Nice Job Landsmann
congratulations! great ship! but the ore is lost?
It depends on which mouse button you mine with. But maybe it has changed, I haven't played for a while.
Amazing, much more efficient than the flat mining matrixes some people make, unless this one is used in "god-mode" and the ship is unbreakable.
interesting design; you could have used the grouping feature to make it easier to empty things, but overall, nice proof of concept.
Ngl, this thing is pretty damn impressive...
This is amazing
cooles design, macht schöne runde löcher! :D
That's AWESOME :0

+MaxTheMaximumGamer do you not see the amount of thrusters running down all four sides of the ship? like, they couldnt be any more obvious
dear God it's beautiful, might use something similar once I get this game on pc
really fun to watch these videos like this... lol it makes me laugh to see its effectiveness
Masterpiece
Awesome build! Have you considered an ejector/collector setup between the head and main body so you don't have to worry about a buffer?
There is an advanced rotor between head and body for transferring ore. Connectors just stop head in correct position because author don't use script for that.

really good work :)
That is a beast
Upload this blueprint to the workshop please i want to have Multiple amounts of these things for my guild and Planit crack all deadspace style
incredible!
wow this would be cool for the planet update also reminds me of the film the core or core
+setogod ]-[ That movie screwed with me so bad when I was a kid... Someone should rebuild that drill from "The Core" and see how well it actually works. (Might need a need front end though)

Did you have any assistance in building this? seems like a very complicated project to tackle alone

Kennst du noch den Granutpohrer von Lego Powerminers?
Der hate sich 2 entgegengesetzt laufende bohrer

This is kick ass
Haven't played this but shouldn't the asteroid be pushed back as the drill makes contact with it?
Holding down the right mouse equipped with Drill destroys the rocks instead of collecting them.
way easier to do with adv rotor now, great idea with connectors
*Nice, like a Worm*
Can you do a video drill through a plant ? And is that possible?
Would you be able to put that TBM on the workshop?

Please tell me you uploaded this to the workshop so i can find it and download it
This is absolutely epic.
I'm building one of these as soon as I get the game and a new computer.
Just wondering, how much resources did it collect, and how much time did it took to make that hole ?
holy shit that was fast. break setting huh, pretty cool.
incredibly effective...
Impressive :)
What rotor is that and what is connected to the top of it?
holy shit, that's certainly a step up from the mining ship i've built. well done. only problem would be how would you dock it to a base to transfer all the materials to where they need to go? or would you just use this thing as mobile base? but then how would you dock other ships to it, if they need some of those materials? carrying everything by hand would certainly seem a little tedious, afer a while. regardless of that, very well done, good job.
Thanks :) I didn't think so far ahead ! Basically, it just makes holes. Then you take out the mined minerals by hand :D :D :D
lol, that's what i thought. shouldn't be too hard to put a connector at the end though, so i think it's not a big problem.
Wunderbar komerad!
I never seen barely of the picture that drill will drill through I want to see it
Even with new materials coming out I can see this miner that would half to take a lot of updates for it to go out of service
Mind blowing....
