    I have to agree with everyone here that this is the best explanation of the Sampler Track and I think I've watched all of them with less success than from yours. So with that said up front, like me humbly mention a very important point that (I feel) you missed right at the start. This stopped me before I could get started. I had to email Steinberg tech support for the solution. I apologize in advance for being long winded here.
    I've been using Cubase for over twenty years (Cubase VST32), so I'm familiar with it to say the least. But I've never used the Sampler Track feature; so I have a need and it was time. I'm on Cubase Pro 11.
    My assumption (my big mistake) was thinking that it worked like the Audio Editor or the Midi Editor...meaning that if I just drag an audio file into the Sample Editor, I can work on it and then close it. The big difference is that the sample editor has to work 'through a Sample Track'. If you make a sample track first, then you're fine; you see it. But if you just drag an audio clip into the sample editor (what I was doing), unbeknownst to me, it 'makes a Sampler Track automatically and places it at the bottom of your project'. With many files in a project, you wouldn't know it was there unless you scrolled down. When I scrolled down, there was over ten sampler tracks from all my failed attempts.
    What wasn't working for me was my controller keyboard; it worked everywhere else in the project. Every video I watched showed them just using their controller without a problem. Turns out, if you want to use your controller to audition the clip, you have to have the monitor button engaged. But I didn't even know that it made a Sampler Track because it was at the bottom of my project and I thought the Sample Editor worked like the other two editors. So giving everyone a heads up on this could make a difference. But it's still the best video. Thanks for your time and hard work in putting this together.

    One Tip: Once you have retrieved the sample via MIDI and edited it to your taste, use the render in place function to import the sample as a WAV file directly into your DAW as a track. This also helps you to get to grips with any timing problems in the sample itself and adapt it to the song via time stretch, for example. Best Jerryl

    I was waiting for you to cover slices. It's unfortunate that slices can't be effected individually. It was sounding good until then. I'm sure Groove Agent is cool, but transferring loops to other instruments is inconvenient. Hopefully I'm not the only one that thinks this isn't OK and Cubase considers this in an update.

  • @rikkshow
    @rikkshow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you figured out a way to play through a loop, that has pitch changes in the original sample, and make it play the actual note of the key you press as the loop keeps playing through? Not changing/transposing its pitch based on the key you press but actually play a C when you press a C key.

    • @jefgibbons
      @jefgibbons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh interesting, so do you mean in slice mode or the other modes? And you are wanting a loop that might have multiple different notes to respond to the keys you press on the keyboard, is that correct? So a loop that had a C, an A, and an E in sequence would then change each of those notes to whatever you played on the keyboard?

    • @rikkshow
      @rikkshow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jefgibbons think Roland VP-9000 in std mode. It has an additional slice mode too, so each key stroke will trigger the next slice and play the actual key. So a series of C-G-F, will play slice 1-2-3 in key C-G-F. It is crazy awesome. But $600 bucks for an old VP9000 that needs win XP, nothing out there AFAIK. Harmor can play through a sample and re-pitch from key, just need to tune the sample flat first. Not sure if anything in Cubase or Halion will auto-advance after a key stroke?

I hope all is well, my name is Antonio and I am writing to you because I would like to ask you something, I have updated Cubase 12 and since the SAMPLER section seems great to me, I would like to ask you, if I import music directly from original CDs to Cubase, quality of audio would be lost. the files if it is in wav? Is ripping cubase good? Or is it better to rip the CDs with a dedicated application? I would like to transfer original songs from CDs that I have to Cubase, to use them as references, and also to sample and I need it to be with the same quality and not lose quality when transferring it from CD to Cubase

    • @jefgibbons

    I love how complex Cubase can get but the simplest things are not intuitive at all.. For example.. chopping up the sample. Where the F is the scissor tool and/or why is it so complicated to cut up the sample.. I love/hate this program haha Idk if I'll ever complete a track tho Lol.. Every time I want to do something, I have to watch an hour tutorial to do something that seems so basic in other DAWs... Lol Ugh

      Dude! Why the F do you need a scissor tool? ;) Just option click (or alt click if youre on a PC)

      It is? Loop functions are still on mine, what are you referring to?

    Audiowarp Algorithm is bad compared to qsampler in logic or to simpler in ableton. Thats not so professional cubase.

    All this and no pitch detection. Wow, what a missed opportunity.

    Thank you for (once again) confirming my opinion, that the Sampler Track is the most useless feature that Steinberg wasted recourses on.

    stop advertise Steinberg!!!! where are the undo/ redo buttons? how do you do sampling and hitpoint without these functions? and in cubes 12 they add this function and charge you another 200 euros

      Hmmm you’re right, it does need undo and redo!
