Ive got about 120 hours on iceborne and hardly even see anyone use this stuff. Im guessing its bc the hammers known combos are already so good. And im sure its easier to use these slinger combos on the training dummy over temp master rank teo
@@bigpapapage7165 it's the opposite. slinger combos make everything way easier since you get a free head hit if you do it right since the monster will turn to you if you use it. but it does not work with every slinger ammo sluggernuts, piercing pods and crystal burst works great, bomb pods work with a time delay (but deals around 200 dmg so it's still worth it) the great part is that it does not stop your charging so charge to lv 3 then use the slinger burst and immeditly do the bb finisher afterwards for a head hit. i even played a bit with the silver rathlos 2 set bonus but Vaal + gold rathian feels better for me
This is true, hammer has actually always been a better aerial weapon than Insect Glaive. To be optimal with Insect Glaive you actually dont ever want to jump in the air... which is hilarious.
A small note for new hammer users when using the golf swing combo on a stunned monster... If using in multiplayer while others are around you also trying to hit the head you will send them flying and they won’t be doing any damage while the monster is down. If In multiplayer, keep this in mind and go for Big Bang combo instead if others are too close.
Hammer is so strong on Iceborn, the combos that can do now with the Clutch claw are insane. It feels so natural and smooth with hammer. Hammer bros unite!
One thing to note with uppercut and power charge. When you power charge, it drops your current R2 charge just a little below level 2, meaning if you charged a little too early for safe uppercut, you can power charge to downgrade, take around half a second to recharge back to lvl2 and deliver hte uppercut. Nevertheless, nice, informative video! As GS main, I always welcome a good hammerbro and together we work the both ends of a monster into stubby bits!
Just do ledge hopping against flying monsters. They always fly low enough so you can hit their heads. You also gain a bit of height in doing so, and if it gets boring or dangerous, you can just mount the MF. As with all weapons, watching speedruns is a good way to learn tricks. Most of them are cheap, but all's fair in love and war.
R2, Triangle, Big bang combo is your highest damaging combo at around 14ish seconds and the best part is the big bang finisher usually hits the monster as they are in their get up animation giving you a higher chance of re knocking them. Also R2 into Triangle spam will launch other players so I never use it.
I have a different opening move for when the monster is awake, but it only works if it’s close to a wall. Equip rocksteady, clutch claw to head then flinch shot them into wall, then charged brutal Big Bang into soften. In my opinion, I think it works better.
One thing i do post-mount (when the hammer is mounting) is of course, always end the mount on the head, then as soon as your slide animation finishes R2->circle to get the power charge Keep R2 Held and step forward towards the face Level 1 charge initial and strong hit combo straight into Big Bang, slowly re-aiming towards where the monster puts its head after getting up When done well and early in a hunt (like mount 1) while a monster is not used to getting knocked down, you can finish the entire big bang before they even get up. later on in the hunt, when they're more resistant to knock downs and get up faster, you have to know how the monster gets up and aim the Big Bang towards that, just barely clipping the face as its down. One example being that Odogaron squirms his head towards his back while on the ground, but will roll towards his feet to get up. for that, you want to be near his feet and big banging perpendicular to the way he's laying down so that when he gets up, you'll be under his head ready for the big bang finisher
I usually don't watch combo videos because I like to think I'm good enought, but after this THANK YOU SO MUCH! This has completely changed my playstyle and the clutch claw edition I use way more often!
Just picked up hammer a few weeks back, love it so far and this should seal the deal, I’ll always love you great sword but it’s hammer time from now on
Also should have exploited the ledge hop with the hammer. Since its the easiest weapon to pull it off with. With weapon UNSHEATHED ( DRAWN OUT) hit evade button to roll off a ledge A button for xbox , X for PS2 ) and breifly press R2 while aiming stick towards the ledge you rolled off of. You can indefinitely do this quickly and over and over it also builds up a mount attack quickly.
With Iceborne, the Hammer has become one of my favorite weapons, and has drawn me away from always using the LS, yeah the hammer doesn't require a lot of technical thinking, but I haven't had this much fun with a weapon in a long time, and look to be using it more often now, and maybe have it be my new main.
Re-started MHW not long a go on a new file and had to go to one of your videos! Never really touched hammer but will try it and this video helped! Thanks a lot!
The uppercut can also launch allies in the air. So be careful around allies, or use it to your advantage with some teamwork for mounting and aerial attacks :)
This is true. launch long sword users for revenge for tripping you xD jk. than again hams always going face, other non-stun wpns should be hitting other parts with an optimal team so they should rarely get flung.
@@PWARGaming ya, I dont think many people know how to play with a team or play smart. The amount of people I see going for the head with insect gloves, long swords and dual blades is ridiculous. I main insect gloves, and the purpose of them is to be in the air dealing damage, cutting tails, breaking wings and mounting monsters.
@@NuclearAbyss I know I'm 4 years late but I can't resist. I find your comment hillarious because insect glaive has terrible DPS in the air. There is one situation where I don't power charge anymore which I learned from another video. After a regular old mount, knocking the monster down, I only do a draw attack immediately into the Big Bang circle combo. I found that this just fits into the time it takes till the monster gets back up, ensuring the last big hit actually gets the head. Before, I was always applying power charge which resulted in a longer overall combo and I'd whiff that last hit to the head sometimes.
This game keeps surprising me everyday love it , bro ty so much, i was in a party and some asian dude was like sonic going up and down the monster and i was just standing there drooling like is this guy using a hammer lol now i know time to practice amazing ty so much!!!!!

Hammer is the only weapon that didn't receive a new weapon on the base moveset, but is actually the only weapon that has attacks while clutching onto the monster. The clutch attacks combined with the buffed stun values and a free 30% boost from Airborne make it extremely fun in Iceborne. Solo you will be mounting and scoring KOs left and right.
Hammer is ridiculously powerful for how easy it is to use. As far as player damage skills go, it might have one of the highest potential damage in the game, with the core fatalis build + agitator charm + mantles allowing you to max Crit Eye, WeX, AtkBoost, CritBoost, Agitator, Partbreaker, and even have evade window and airborne. Bonk Nation stronk!
I want to get into hammers cause I love the concept of having a brick on a stick and running up to big ol dinosaurs and going "bonk" and then they die. Also, anyone know the armor set he used in this video?
I just beat Iceborne and decided to check if I've been missing out on anything with the clutch claw since I've only used it to latch onto the face to launch or weaken the monster. I'm in shambles rn.
I know you mentioned the charged slide spin attack clutch, and the charged aerial attack clutch, but I didn't see anything about the wall jump spin attack clutch; don't know if it was covered in another video or I missed it, but I wanted to point it out in case you didn't know/accidentally skimmed over it, but you can clutch grab after spin attack off of a wall (thorns, coral, etc.) And it will do the spinning clutch attack as well
@@juanisaias8308 blast is apparently 300 a proc in iceborne so it got a decent buff, im running around with brachy hammer atm for nostalgia and because I dont have a set that can support acidic's awful sharpness yet. Slugger got a decent buff too with diablos 3 piece. 60% increase to stun

I understand brother. Swag axe main from 3u to world. But they did my boy dirty and hammer is just so damn good. If only the axe mode would charge the swords overdrive, then I'd play swax again
Hey i'm newbie in the game and idk how to pull off 4th variation of hammer clutch claw combo because idk how to make that wall jump attack... Can somebody help?
So I'm new to the hammer scene, but I thought the go-to combo on a downed monster was a 2nd level charge into a big bang? Edit: I'd also like to ask, as someone who plays solo at most times (on PC I'm just trying to catch up and learn something outside of DBs), how do I cut off/sever tails as a hammer user?
As a beginner hammer user what is the best way to deal with rathalos and rathians? I main db so i struggle with these guys aswell especially when they just stay in the air. Seems cheap just to use flash pod to knock it down. I might make insect glaive my 3rd weapon just so i dont have to use the bow or lightbowgun again.

agreed, those are the best raw ones. dios and acidic awakened are nice status hams too.
@@PWARGaming Yeah, that paralysis on acidic is looking good. I dont know about blast tho. It was bad on base game, did it improve now?
@@juanisaias8308 blast is apparently 300 a proc in iceborne so it got a decent buff, im running around with brachy hammer atm for nostalgia and because I dont have a set that can support acidic's awful sharpness yet.
Slugger got a decent buff too with diablos 3 piece. 60% increase to stun
@@juanisaias8308 Thx man I appreciate it
Wait you can do the front spin attack after a clutch grab???
useful for beginners with hammer, like me. also, nice outro track! what is it?
I knew there’s a clutch claw combos, I knew hammer does some spinning combos, but I’ve searched through internet for a video like this(there was non like this), and now it’s the time to level up my skill of hammer 🔥🔥🔥 hammer is the best!!!!!!!
This is the best hammer guide.
how do i do that hammer combo won ps4 controller that you did in 1.00 in the video i am confused i been trying to do that for a long time
watch video recently and just realized we can clutch claw after charge attack...
What is the best hammer to get after reaching mr30?
I was once a switch axe user. then I started tooling around with the hammer and never went back. Hammer is amazing...
I understand brother. Swag axe main from 3u to world. But they did my boy dirty and hammer is just so damn good. If only the axe mode would charge the swords overdrive, then I'd play swax again
I was the same, swaxe mobility sucks. Hammer is the most satisfying weapon imo
@@ayro0638 i find evade extender a necessity with swag axe, it lets you stick to monsters much better. But alas, its not like it once was.
Can you teach us how to use the hammer combo using PC (keyboard mode) ??
Still a bit confused about using keyboard..
Does the clutch claw combo have a brief rocksteady effect like the lance clutch counter?
Can’t go back to another weapon those KO are addicting!
Edit: I'd also like to ask, as someone who plays solo at most times (on PC I'm just trying to catch up and learn something outside of DBs), how do I cut off/sever tails as a hammer user?
what's the name of the song used during the video?
As a beginner hammer user what is the best way to deal with rathalos and rathians? I main db so i struggle with these guys aswell especially when they just stay in the air. Seems cheap just to use flash pod to knock it down. I might make insect glaive my 3rd weapon just so i dont have to use the bow or lightbowgun again.
how did u activate the item bar like a gunner/
