Rural East Texas small ranch owner here. Found your channel through Buckin'. Also found Steve's Small Engine Saloon. I enjoy all three channels. Getting into chain saws over the last few years. I'm ramping it up now after Texas took a beating in February with a ton of snow and cold temps for nearly a week. Power out everywhere, water out, boil notices. It was a real mess out here. I got lucky and managed to buy a cord of cut wood right before or we would have froze. I am planning to keep at least 4 cords cut and aged at all times in the future. Some of your porting mods remind me of dirt bike mods. Cool stuff! Learning how to port from you, how to file a chain from Buckin', and learning to fix everything else from Steve!

I’m new here my name is Johnnie and I used to use a saw everyday when I was younger for fire wood had a bunch but an old 1970’s red Sears saw was my favorite, but now I have been getting into motorized Bicycles and I have a channel about them. I run motors that are very similar to a saw motor , putting a ms44-46 jug on these nikes is super common build actually so found this channel and started enjoying it. Very similar to what I’m doin with the bikes. I’m just very new to porting not even a year in yet. Let’s goooo!!!

I usually just cut cords of firewood for heat but am getting into working on my saws as well from top to bottom. It’s in my blood and I just love watching yours and Buckins videos. I’m going back and checking them all out. Keep up the great work man- so good 👍👍

Well I'm not quite your neighbor Tinman more like the guy down the road haha I live in Kamloops BC and as far as how I got into saws...my dad did some forest fire fighting in his younger days and had a big husky (372xp I think?but can't recall) when I was a kid and all I remember of it was it ate tanks of fuel the way I murder sour key candies. Now being a younger buck at 30 years old I am starting my own family and taking them hunting camping and fishing which means firewood...I just picked up a little craftsman 40cc saw but am listing hard after a slope backed 372 so I can get it to someone like yourself for a massage lol...thank you so much for your amazing content and priceless information and experience.

The 224 came in in 85. That's still an early 266. Had my hands on a 1995 not too long ago. The plastic brake does say later saw though.
There is a date stamp cast into the tank, as well as the crank itself has the production date of the crank itself printed on it.
Been using those Hyway top ends for a while, usually use their Nicasil coated one with popup.
Timing numbers are pretty good, and squish ends up around 19.5-20 with their piston.
Compression height on that 372 piston is 1.5mm shorter than a 272 piston. Going to need a heck of a base cut for that.
If you need 266 specific stuff, I have lots over here in Dryden ON. 12 266's alone on the shelf at the moment, 25+ on that chassis, and I have a truckload of parts to pick up in the next couple weeks. Over 120 saws in the shop at the moment, and more to come....

Watching Buckin has made me much safer now. I've repaired many saws over the years but have never modified or ported any beyond gasket matching, opening up a muffler and removing casting flashing. You're giving me the confidence to take it to another level. Thank You!

Nice work Tinman. That series of saws are so nice to work on. Sure doesn’t take long to get to the crank. The last one I did I pressed the bearings into the cases then dropped the frozen crank in. Just had to make sure the bearings were in the right spot in the cases. Went together way easier then pressing the bearings on the crank first.

Started tearing down a 36 today. Hope to have it back together tomorrow. I have a 262XP that has a bad fuel line I think. Picked it up a few years ago and never got into it. Think it would make a good porting project. I've only ported one 350 so didn't want to jump on the 359 just yet.

I started watching the Ironhorse a wile back because he had a video about getting a roll of hay to his horses and his tractor is like mine and his loader is exactly like mine which is rare. He started talking about Buckin Billy as how to sharpen a chain and they both were talking about you and thats how I got here. I live in northern North Carolina and have been cutting wood for over 60 years. I thought I knew how to sharpen a chain untill I watched Buckin. I have a 200, 215 and 2 mini mac Macs, a small Jonsered 4 40-42 cc Poulans and a Homelite electric. I bought the Poulans on several black fridays at tractor supply for $100 each. I figured if they lasted for a couple of years, I would be ok, but so far they are all running fine including the Wild Thing that is 10 yrs old. I heat my house with a homemade water stove with underfloor radiant heat and I still cut most of my own wood. Enjoy watching your videos.

Tinman, I am new to the channel. Came over from Buckin. My father in law has an old 266xp that needs work. He said I could do with it what I wish, so I am going to try my hand at porting it. These videos on the 266xp will help me understand more of the quirks of that saw. Thank you for the information you are putting out. Love the channel man.

@@tinmanssaws I have watched the whole series on the Echo, and that's what got me itching to try porting. I have several saws of my own and would like to show them a little love too. I only cut for firewood and cleaning up around the farm, but really enjoy running a saw. Thanks again for all you do.

Looks like an awesome base to build a nasty saw. I think that every part is now available aftermarket. You can buy a complete 272xp from farmertec now. The new hutzl farmertec intake gaskets are like the old oem.

That saw looks pretty nice. Definitely did not bounce around In the back of a pickup much. That bearing is blue. They stopped running it just in time. Happy Easter TinMan!
