I like the little touches that show what Doomguy is thinking, like in 7:35 where when Samuel says it was "for the betterment of mankind", Doomguy just glances at the corpse lying on the floor.
And you can tell he's fucking pissed.
He just REALLY hates Hell and anything related to it.
And when you deactivate the Argent energy stream, and Hayden is in the middle of giving you very precise instructions as to how to properly shut it down and Doomguy just kicks the shit out of it.

This game doesn't really lend itself to full playthroughs. Quite a bit of downtime. Plus it doesn't do it justice compared to playing it because it's fking amazing.

Go to any dictionary and the entry for "doom" will just be a bloody hole because it has been ripped and/or torn out.
The invasion of Hell became known as D-day (Doomsday) and The DOOM Marine became known as The Doomslayer because he slayed EVERY SINGLE DEMON IN THE DOOMSDAY INVASION PERSONALLY, THEN WENT TO THEIR HOUSE AND KILLED EVERYONE THERE TOO
Oh, he's the Doom Slayer to the demons only. To the researchers that dug him out of hell, he's the Doom Marine.
And the demons refer to themselves as the "servants of Doom", ominously refering to the entity that controls hell... so the demons are so diarrheically terrified of Doomguy that they're referring to him with a name that is akin to "Satan Slayer" and/or "Our Mother's Slayer", case in point.

There should be a micro campaign where you play through the levels backwards as a demon during the uac siege and it ends where you get killed by doomguy
When you meet Doomguy, he should yell "YOU ARE HUUUUUGE THAT MEANS YOU HAVE HUGE GUTS"
would be fun, fighting some of the soldiers on your way through the base and destroyin equipment, and finally reaching the doom guy as the final boss that you cant beat XD
I've always loved stuff like that. I remember someone saying a while back that there should be a Suicide Squad game that ends with a boss fight against Batman that you can't win, and the credits roll over the screen until none of the team after left standing.

DOOM is just all like, "Yeah you're ripping and tearing every single demon in hell limb from limb with your bare hands, big dumb guns, and stupid power ups scattered throughout the level, this is a fucking videogame son." And we love the game for it.

So Doom lore is basically: There's a portal to hell on Mars and a bunch of science guys fucked up and let demons out of it and into a space station?

No, the story is that scientists we're trying to create super soldiers by amplifying their genes. however they found a new gene thats basically the evilness of that person but it turns them into zombies and someother fucked up shit. So they sent Bones, The Scorpion King, Gone Girl and Silver Surfer to take them out
They were researching transportation tech on the moons of Mars, and created a portal from one to the other. The portal turned out to pass through hell. Demon colonization ensues.
Doom 1: UAC accidentally builds a portal to Hell on the moon. One Marine manages to fight off the invasion.
Doom 2: Except the demons got to Earth, so he killed the demons on earth and the Icon of Sin that led the attack.
Doom 64: Even though he killed a shitload of demons, something is reviving them. So he went back to hell, killed the Mother of All Demons, and decided to stay there to make sure they didn't come back.
This Game: The demons managed to drop a tomb on him, sealed it shut because they couldn't figure out how to kill him, and made another pact with UAC. One UAC person got smart and decided to free the Marine, just in case the demons betrayed the humans.
Doom 3 is basically Doom 1, except UAC is actually smart, and one scientist betrayed everyone by joining the demons. One Marine happens to be in the right place at the right time. It's not the same guy.

I got complete Metroid Prime vibes from very early on and thought I was crazy for feeling that way. TBF and Mega64's Rocco have corroborated it now. Maps are so complex it's absolutely on Prime's level. definitely worth playing man

I love the story of Doom Guy is like: So this guy was super pissed and was running rampant in Hell, and Hell couldn't handle him. So they stuck Doom Guy in a box and said "okay, NO ONE open this box! EVER!"

Coming from the Game Grumps playthrough, this is like watching an entirely different game
that's because the best friends play the game for the sake of the gameplay. Dan and Arin milk 30 mins of a game into 50 fucking episodes for views and ad revenue. they play slow and shitty on purpose.
After watching the Game Grumps LP of this, I'm gonna abandon it just to watch the SBF version of it pretty much because Pat's skill > Dan's skill.

So I read that the reason there's less demons here than in the other games is cause doom guy reduced their population by that much while in hell
It's fucking AWESOME that they turned Doom Guy into this super soldier badass, that was so fucking brutal that all of Hell was just like "FUCK THIS" and sealed him away, instead of actually being able to kill him.
So fun fact, a few friends of mine had a garage metal band called DoomSlayer, and I had drawn their logo. And no, I hadn't use a thorny white barely understandable lettering.
But I had put Diablo-est crosses in the O, and exaggerated the S so it looks like two sickliest blades.

The Metroid games kinda suck. The story is really cool but gameplay is basic as all hell and it's fucking painfully boring to watch someone else play.
There have been SEVERAL things that the best friends gush about that I end up watching or playing. Haven't been disappointed yet.

This channel is the whole reason I got into Freedom Planet and started backing games on Kickstarter or Indiegogo when they recommend them. because it feels good to back something and then have it actually succeed.
