Good tips Dev. One way I like to make space for vocals is to route all the instruments to a bus and slap the Soothe2 on it and sidechain it to the vocals.
1. Get the soothe plug in. 2. Put it on the music bus (no drums). 3. And side chain the soothe plug in to your vocal bus (so that the music buss is being altered by your vocal bus) 4. Easy frequency ducking and INSTANT clarity -- works every time.
You are incredible. I have been able to "logic" my way into understanding a lot of concepts, this finally helps me understand what I see visually on the proQ.. This video also has helped me to have better sidechaining on my kick and bass because of that. Hilarious I didn't realize the red was conflicts hahaha
Definitely got the fabfilter "pro bundle" on my things to get asap list!!! An just a btw bro.. I cant thank you enough for the info you provide, not only have you taught me ALOT about mixing in general, but you've also shown me that some of the little tricks I was doing previously,(before seeing your channel) are actually some things your quote unquote suppose to do or are atleast a good idea to try in your mix.. so I REALLY want to THANK YOU for Helping Me Devvon, (pun intended) an I'm looking forward to using that Rosetta in my Cubasis 3 (mobile daw) lol.. Much Love my brother!! ❤️💛💚 gotta #ShowLove2GetLove
@@HelpMeDevvon ahh jus keeping it REAL bro.. some seem to have lost touch with what that actually means but I truly keep it 💯.. wish I had a friend like you around frfr, even just to pick your brain about certain parts of mixing..
Excellent explanation of how the frequencies interact with each other! Excellent direction and concept of how to make a fix! Thank you so much for your post!!
Bro this tutorial is amazing as usual! I also tried something for the first time today and I think it could be a very useful trick. You can try sidechaining the Pro Q3 to the vocals, that way the instruments won't sound weird or anything if you got a part with only instruments!
Great Video, very useful information fam ,just a little suggestion brother if you can clean up a little room noise from audio from your voice(speaking) and it would be more suiting to listen to but its still great overall tbh
Bro, THIS, was a GEM!!! Loving your channel... Keep up the good work with the guys.. This will become a new staple in my mixing process. Thanks again... Salute.
Could you also do this by setting up an EQ in a track that has the music and vocals routed to it, (One that has the heatmap frequency feature). and then subtract some of those frequencies that are colored darker from the music tracks?
You tha man. That came at the perfect time. I really realty needed that. Thanks bro. Also love audio needs podcast. Now just need tips on making instruments atmospheric lack of a better word. Tried some things but can't get the sound I'm looking for.
Another one I like to use with Pro EQ is to sidechain the vocals to the music bus, put a pro eq on the music bus with sidechain input from the vocals and do the eq match (most bands) Then after matching I erase the greater shelves an keep notches around mids and highs, this instance of pro eq i copy over to the vocals and reverse all notches with selecting all and pulling the db from positive to negative or the other way around Really is a good way to make the matching frequencies go further away from each other and creates the space too ! But so many ways lead to Rome, thanks for another wonderful vid Devvon ! 🎉
is it possible to like, parrallel EQ with this? like a parrallel compressor. basically only lower the freq on the beat when the vocal is actually playing and clashing with it? how would u do that?
Is there a feature like this with F6 by Waves? I've been using that one for a long time and don't feel the need to get Q3 especially just for this feature.
Great info and I will definitely use this and I’m such a fan . I grabbed the rosseta eq and I’m having issues . I’ve been emailing you guys for 5 days now and you guys still haven’t responded . Why’s that ?
Industry standard is first 1176 because it has fast attack and it has to tame transients and the second one is La2A which is 10ms attack so it create new controlled transient and it has longer release so it will make vocals smoother. Gain reduction is very individual but target 1-3db on peaks on 1176. And maybe 2-5 db on La2A
great tips i gotta try but i do have a question, does creating a bus for the music itself create somewhat of a parallel double of the tracks? i know when i do a vocal bus it turns out like that but I'm curious on how it works and what can be done about it thanks.
Shouldn’t be creating a double. When you send to a bus you’re sending the outputs of each track to the same place, so you’re re-routing those outputs not creating another set outputs. Another way I look at it is grouping all the tracks into one channel (the bus)
I got a Job at a big studio in my city and they run pro tools which i’ve never used. I start in a month and need to learn pro tools anybody know a good place to learn?
Great video! Hey devvon I sent an email to your business email about refund policy on presets. Never got a reply, just wondering if you do refunds (I sent the the email the day I got the preset)

That’s also a great technique!

Bro please make a video am struggling getting space to my vocals. Trying with spacetrack but just don't feel as good it should be

you got that right my boy...that's my secret weapon too
@@prodbycactusjoe I knew I wasn’t that smart haha.
bro this just changed my life, thank you
Great technique, lately i have been doing this with soothe 2,i sidechaine my vocals to my all music bus,its precise....
you can use trackspacer by wavesfactory too side chaining with vocal group it's so effective 🔥
There are tons of ways to achieve this! I just like that fabfilter visually shows you it’s opinion!

It really creates some pockets and the vocals sit better in the mix and actually glues it together 🔥🔥
Neutron does this pretty well too. I usually use Fabilter myself so this is nice to learn!

Nuetron 3 does this and also trackspacer does a great job with piano sidechained to guitars got that from Joey sturgis

Hmm wonder if this technique can be achieved with the Pro-MB as well...
Naw this might be the coolest video you dropped yet
Appreciate that maybe I’ll tap more into secrets
Yes!! Best way would be also to make it dynamic and sidechained to the vocal so it doesn't disappear all the time!
That was flipping helpful. Thanks man
very helpful Devon and thank you! 🙏

hey dev. we can also use trackspacer right for the sidechain
Great feature and tutorial. The easiest way to recreate this is with the Trackspacer.
+1 on Trackspacer 👌🏻
Are there other eqs that have the analyzer feature as well? Or only pro q 3?

BRAVO!
this record sound hard bro and great tutorial as usual
Appreciate u this song will probably never come out 😅
@@HelpMeDevvon why tf not? 😢
Is it possible for you to do a comparison video between this method and trackspacer by wavesfactory
Thanks, its like you are reading my mind.

Nah u gonna be better
devon a god
what is the title of the song?
AWESOME video! Is there a reason you only took out a little of the music's clashing frequencies instead of more or all of the clashing frequencies?
Because cutting more then 6 dB can suck the life out of the instrument being eqed

Glad it helps!!!

it sounds like you hit the instruments with a compressor, i use this alot but i did not know about the proQ trick that was flame
