I did a lot of work on that thing during the 90s & 2000s during its restoration That includes the strip-down & everything.. Anyway, good to see they've got it up & running again... Don't forget to put small racing greyhoud stickers above the instruments in the cabs boys. The reason we were going to put small racing greyhound racing decals on there when finished is because B72 was nicknamed "The Greyhound" by the drivers back when it was in service because it went bloody hard for a B Class...hence the nickname. She was considered a good unit...
B72 runs on its own power again. B72 is coming back. It looks so good wearing VicRail Teacup and V/Line Orange. Can't wait to see the lovely old girl helping on Steamrail excursions.
A beautiful locomotive. Also here in Finland, in the late 1950s and early 1960s, a series of handsome round-nosed diesel electric locomotives, type Hr12, later Dr12, were produced.
I believe the EMD "Bulldog Nose" E and F series diesels are the most aesthetically pleasing ever built anywhere in the world. The lines are so smooth and convey motion so well. I always have and always well love them.
Great to see the B72 running after 27 years. EMD built their engines to run for a long time. All it takes is the will to maintain them, as all of you did. Congratulation to a job well done. I subscribed to your channel and rang the bell. I have a train layout and run trains from the 1950s,1960s and present. Why not check it out.
For an engine that operates around 900 rpm in the 8th notch she’s going to be around for a long time … regardless whether it was a gp-9, gp-7 or a wagon top ( our nickname for them on the B&O ), they had a great and dependable prime mover ….thanks for the awesome video …ms~~~
Nice to see another country help in keeping the old EMD' s alive. Worked at EMD, La Grange facility back in 1970, building order number 7198, the DD 40 x for Union Pacific "Golden Spike" heritage units.
My favourite VLine livery too (the 3:45 onwards section of video), hope they retain it. Pigeons have been giving the roof a coat of "rust proofing" too I see. A job well done lads, looking good so far.
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 I’ve never seen or heard of this B72 before. It is radically cool! The old E & F unit engines are some of my favorites! I grew up around the CSX rail shop & there were always engines around & running all night. I have some very powerful memories of my life there. Love to see her move under her own power! Hope that she gets finished. Thanks for sharing.🥰😎✌️
Many of our preserved and renovated diesel-electric locomotives in the UK have quite an active retirement on preserved rail lines, as well as on the national network hauling heritage train tours. They can even be seen earning revenue on national rail services and on industrial lines, covering loco and multiple unit shortages. As there are very limited supplies of loco-hauled coaches here on our national rail network these days, they often end up hauling rakes of preserved coaches too.
What a wonderful sight! I don't think I have eve seen a double ender like this. SO majestic! (Even if it looks like she was caught out in a Speedo!). Good work, all of you!
When I first hired out with the BNSF they were still running a few of these covered wagons. I once had to walk through the engine consist doing about 70. Imagine the sound and head when you in the belly of one of these. Pretty cool!
Love to see vintage machines getting a deserved restoration and return to operating condition! It that a GM/EMD V-16 two-cycle diesel? Kudos to all those men and women involved.
I got to drive the Commonwealth Railways Versions designated as GM 1 etc fifty years ago. Had listened to them fading into the desert towards WA from childhood. Love them.
I remember a VR T class (8V567) at Bonnie Doon (yes how's the serenity?) as a child in 1970. I'll never forget the sound as long as I live. I got woken up by it and ran outside and saw it and that's where it all started.
I really hope B72 stays in it's teacup livery. We have too many blue and gold heritage diesels running around. It would be nice to see something different.
Absolutely would be nice to see some of the Tangerine era in preservation for sure. V/line beat everyone to the punch with A66 but Teacup absolutely would be a nice one. Underrated scheme if you ask me. Also agreed, blue and gold is nice but it's kinda boring to only see it everywhere and nothing else. Then again, I guess that's historically accurate too hah.
When I was a kid, I used to get my parent to take me to the airport to watch the Spirit of Progress or Southern Aurora leave, hauled mainly S classes with X Classes turning up as I got older, I would go up on the road bridge over platform 1 when they left . I still love that sound of those EMD diesels .
The wonderful "shaking the toys in the toybox" starting sound of a 567. It goes from an utter cacophony to the wonderful lug-lug-lug-lug-lug-lug.. Nice work!!!
It's breathtaking to see this beautiful locomotive in action. 👍👍 Reminds me a little of the wonderful Nohab round-nosed diesel locomotives that were very common on routes from northern Germany to Scandinavia. Good luck everyone, enjoy this Beauty und keep up your excellent job on this powerful machine! Greetings from Frankfurt, Germany 🙋
That idlng sounds haunts me! I just hope that some of you older gentlemen that have worked on it, are able to pass on your knowledge to some younger guys. Cannot be many 567 engines still running. Well done!
So cool. I love the sound of the engine and transmission. Congratulations to all the people restoring old machines. They are a testimony of mankind's ingenuity.
I can't believe my eyes. Steamrail have got B72 FINALLY operational again, hopefully it can operate on its first mainline tour with Steamrail sometime this year!
Congratulations on a terrific accomplishment! great job! Admittedly not sure why I found this so sentimental (I'm 60 years old).. Thanks so much for sharing
Greeetings and congratulations from Denmark, These double ended round noses got the same guts and soul as our Nohab build type My locomotives. I recognize the pur of that super charged 16 cylinder two stroke engine.
That’s fantastic great to see heritage trains restored and running. Excellent share listen to that cat pure thanks for sharing the adventures with us. Have an excellent day enjoyed it I subscribed to the channel. Look forward to more shares here Thanks
Nice to hear an EMD 567 prime mover still in action in 2024. And “down under” in Australia no less!
Well done Alex and the SRV volunteers a truly outstanding accomplishment.

Bringing to life B72 after 37 years is no.mean achievement. Congrats. Such a beautiful diesel loco with curves and contours in symmetry.
Ada
I wish our powerhouses looked like that today. The things that pull our trains look like boxes. Cheers from Atlanta, Georgia.
Absolutely fabulous. Well done to everyone involved! ❤
My father drove that engine back in the day. He worked at Geelong Loco most of his working life.
Love the cutaway showing the motor/generator set. I know vaguely how diesel electrics work but have never seen the inside of one like this. Thank you!
Beautiful sound when you first fired it up! Love it!!
Congratulations from Chicago, IL. USA. Fantastic job!!!!
Well done to everyone involved. Great to see B72 running under it's own power again. A great achievement.
2:30 FREEDOM!
fantastic work getting the old girl riding the rails again. must have been a very happy moment to see her drive out those doors
Its fantastic to hear B72 under its own power. Great job guys, a wonderful achievement!

I think you'll find our English Deltics are just as good to look at.
They are beautiful, so are the Deltics.
Gotta love a deltic
😅😂😊

Congratulations, a wonderful reward for all your hard work to see her going again.
That sounds sweet ! Congratulations for bringing B72 back to life. Cheers from the UK.
How well I remember that glorious sound from many years ago. Thank you.

I have nothing to say other than this just put a smile on my face and made me happy.
Nice restoration and well deserved.

If B72 get up and move after 37 years, I guess I can get up for tomorrow (monday) after 2 days off. Nice vid!
What a beautiful locomotive! Nice to see it operating!

I've been a rail fan as a kid in the 80's and never saw a double headed f or E unit! What is next, A Trump Presidency?
B72 is a B-Class locomotive, the design of which was based on the F-units
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_Railways_B_class_(diesel)
Awesome work :) What a great job restoring iconic locomotives :)
Congratulations to the crew making this happen!

Love and miss that sound!!!! That is really cool that it's getting the care it needs!!!! Thanks!!!
From California that is very cool. I remember as a kid old locomotives like this on the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe San Francisco Chief as a kid.
nice one steamrail you did one heck of a job on B72
What a wonderful sight! I don't think I have eve seen a double ender like this. SO majestic! (Even if it looks like she was caught out in a Speedo!). Good work, all of you!
Sir Topham Hat..."B72 , you have been a naughty engine, you served your time out and may leave, make me proud and be a useful engine once again."
When I first hired out with the BNSF they were still running a few of these covered wagons. I once had to walk through the engine consist doing about 70. Imagine the sound and head when you in the belly of one of these. Pretty cool!
Bloody awesome look forward to seeing it at the Open Day
Great job on the Locomotive and also a great job on the video work of its first move! Thanks for sharing!!
Love to see vintage machines getting a deserved restoration and return to operating condition! It that a GM/EMD V-16 two-cycle diesel? Kudos to all those men and women involved.
GM/EMD 567 ci per cylinder V16, roots blown diesel 2 stroke.
I'm crying
??????????
Why? Because it took an entire generation to get something done? At that rate…..Steamrail will be doomed.
Me too. I'm not stable.
@@xr6ladThey're probably crying tears of joy. They're probably really moved to see a major milestone completed.
Well, for the company, of course.
We've all been waiting so long Leo, us too.

beautiful diesel, you dont see them in the states except old F7A/B units....These are awesome...and well done on the rehab back to life.
Except????? Come on, Americas f7’s were our workhorses, geeezzz …
I really hope B72 stays in it's teacup livery. We have too many blue and gold heritage diesels running around.
It would be nice to see something different.
it will be blue and gold

@denodon123 are you sure, what about 707's Y class?
@@james1377c15barely runs, it's a based Shunter (apparently) and when it does run it's used as a backup or behind a locomotive
X54 now wears teacup livery as of now. ECHR was like why not change something up with X54 and they went with painting it into VicRail Teacup scheme
Awesome work by all involved in her.!
I didn't know double headed EMDs existed! Pretty cool
Cool but weird looking
Congratulations to all involved. So great to see.
Gotta Love that sound.
Fantastic effort getting B72 back on the rails. I remember riding behind one of these to Albury with my grandparents, I just loved the double cabs.
Interesting. Looks like an EMD E-unit streamliner with an extra cab tacked on.
I could listen to these old beasts run all day. So powerful, efficiant, yet mechanically simple and elegant.
That's actually pretty cool to see the motor and generator. I know you will put on the side panels but that would be unique to have it look-through
I love the sound the roots blower(s) make. I have no idea what they do; but advancing the throttle generates a beautiful whine.
When I was a kid, I used to get my parent to take me to the airport to watch the Spirit of Progress or Southern Aurora leave, hauled mainly S classes with X Classes turning up as I got older, I would go up on the road bridge over platform 1 when they left . Looking forward to seeing B72 at this years open day!
Nice result. I have subscribed. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.
oh, wow!! What an great job in resurrecting this double-ended beauty. No warning bell? V-16 with roots I assume.
V12. The Winton design is a two stroke so it uses the Roots blower as a scavenge to blow air in a exhaust out.
That idlng sounds haunts me! I just hope that some of you older gentlemen that have worked on it, are able to pass on your knowledge to some younger guys. Cannot be many 567 engines still running. Well done!
Ponerle la carrocería completa igual lindo trabajo felicitaciones x la recuperación d.esta hermosa y vieja EMD
Absolutely bang up job you guys did, well done
Great work. I just love this style of train. P.S. Raining again in Scotland 😰
So cool. I love the sound of the engine and transmission. Congratulations to all the people restoring old machines. They are a testimony of mankind's ingenuity.

it's going to take a while
Congratulations ! Very Nice !
The cutaway sides are really quite informative on what lies where within.
As a man of a certain age those trains represented american rail travel like the Deltics did here in the uk. Great to see one restored.
I subscibed. Great train video. Thanks.Greetings Joe😊
Love the old school paintwork/livery
Great to see!
Outstanding footage ! Well done to all.👀👌😀
Outstanding!! Just super sound.
Eine wundervolle Lokomotive.ich liebe diese " Round Nose !
Congratulations on a terrific accomplishment! great job! Admittedly not sure why I found this so sentimental (I'm 60 years old).. Thanks so much for sharing
Just fantastic!
Can't wait to see it in Ballarat one day
Fantastic to see B72 finally coming back to life after it's restoration. Great job to all involved.
Nice to see an old workhorse like that back on the track. Good work!!
Great going guys, great team work! Respect+++++👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Fantastic 👍🏻😎 very cool machine mate . 🇨🇦🇦🇺 Robin out
Excellent work everyone! V line orange and grey would look amazing 👌
It's like a real life section view of a locomotive, complete with spinning flywheel.
As a structural engineer it is neat to see her with all her body panels off.
Awesome ❤❤
Badass ! Love it. Good job ! 👍
A very nice restoration job. Where is the restoration shop ? Thank You
It looks like it will be a while before it will be in service again 😮❤
Greeetings and congratulations from Denmark, These double ended round noses got the same guts and soul as our Nohab build type My locomotives. I recognize the pur of that super charged 16 cylinder two stroke engine.
It's Wilson from Chuggington!
Really looking forward to see this on the track
Looks so damn good in Teacup.
