Hi thanks for this very useful video guide. I hope you can help me I have some problems. First of all I was wondering in my case that I use a combo amplifier, do I have to select combo front? My connection is the following, send of the nux and enter the return of my amplifier, with this connection I really have the maximum performance try it and believe it. Initially I used the mono l/r output entering the return, as I had always been advised, but there was something wrong with the sound, it was difficult to get decent sounds out while now the sound has been reborn. The only problem with this connection (send nux/return amp) is that there are some limitations: the master does not work, no looper either and no drum machine. I can only adjust the volume from the simulations or from the expression pedal. So I was reading up on the 4-cable method, but using this connection I noticed the loss of sound output again and also something strange happens, I put the s/r block before the amplifier but if active or inactive it does not change the sound why? I also tried to move it to various points but nothing changes. Thanks I hope it is possible to find a solution.

Hi Pedal Guy, nice videos about mg 30. In another video you said to prefer rear mode, so what about the rear mode? May I use the same physical connection scheme (4 cable) or should I go from nux out directly into the amp return? To be more precise, assume I want to leave mg 30 always connected to amp and cabinet , which kind of connection should I use If I want alternatively use physical amp or simulated amp without changing anytime the connection? @@ThePedalGuy Hi there again and thanks for the answer. I tried at first with 4 cable method connected to an H&K tubemeister 18, set stack front as mode, and I got a pretty good decent sound from start. But I dont understand why with this connection scheme, every knob of the amp (gain, master, eq) does nothing. Shouldn't this behavior related to rear mode? I expected to use amp knobs in stack front 4 cable method. Am I wrong?
hello good sir, and good morning, I was planning on buying this or the mg 400 model, but I had a question, does it allow for external mic preamp connectivity, in a home studio setup, can I connect it to my external mic preamp ?
I looked at the amp, and it doesn’t appear to have a send and return. In into the input on your amp and select the output mode on the M3 called combo front.
hi mate, cheers for the vid. I am trying to use my NUX within the FX loop of my DSL5, I was hoping to have an OD in front of the S/R and delays / reverbs behind. I have dialed in a tone I want with the dsl (just a cable direct with my Les Paul) Even with every effect turned off , it completely changes the sound of my amp once engaging the nux in the loop, a lot flatter, less presence. I didnt think the NUX would colour the sound until I introduced effects etc. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Feel like it’s something to do with EQ and volume levels , not sure what to start with the get the original amp tone to come through
Hi, just curious, I would like to split my bass signal and send a dry bass signal to my bass amp and I want to send another wet signal to a guitar amp that comprises of a pitch shift of an octave up sent to another pitch shift which adds a perfect 5th to that 1 octave up signal with no dry bass signal then into some distortion so I can send this wet signal to the guitar amp when the guitarist does his solos, to fatten the sound a little as we don't have a rhythm guitarist to do this. Does this unit have these capabilities?
Just curious, if you have this setup in 4cm. Can you still use the amp models and IR's without changing cables around, by turning off the send and return and resetting the output mode? Cool tutorial btw thanks!
The acoustic IR’s tend to sound better when using the neck pickup on your guitar. When you select the acoustic IR’s make sure you’re using either the Stageman or optima air preamps. That should do the trick
Can someone clarify why you need four cables I have the fourth cable going into my quilter head it's not changing the sound I pulled it out it doesn't sound any different
Thanks man. Is there a way to use of the 4-cable method and simultaneously make the wet sound come out, from the 2 exits with the cab simulation? So I can use the amp as my own speaker on stage, and the wet sound going to the mixer Thx in advance, cheers from italy
Hello! You said that you use stack front output in mg30 but you actually don’t!? I see the IR on the mg30 device! Normally in stack front mode should bypass the IR signal block!
What is the difference between front of stack and back of stack? (besides bypassing IR). I find when I use front of stack, the sounds are kind of thin, and when I use back of stack it sounds like the gods have blessed me with the power of rock
When you use the stack front, you're essentially mixing a preamp into another preamp which can create the thin tones. When you use the stack rear and plug into the FX return, you're bypassing your hardware preamp and EQ and just using the preamp of the MG-30 which in my mind sounds a lot better.
Hi, thanks for the content I used the 4 cable method, but I noticed that the output mode equalization greatly influences the sound. Is there any way to turn off the equalization? Hi The Pedal Guy! very interesting video thank you! ( like for example a Warwick RockBoard Natural Sound Buffer ) thank you !!
Hi. Two questions. 1. Does it sound different when using shorter cables? 2. Have you turned off the IR/Cab on the MG-30? I assume you want all of the processed audio to come out of the Ampeg combo, correct? If so, then you need to make sure that the IR is turned off, as that will create a muddy sound.
@@ThePedalGuy 1.i don’t have shorter cable to test 2. Yes of course the amp sim and ir/cabs are all deactived, yes I would like to obtain all the processed sound trough the amp…just like using overdrive/distortion/wah pedal in front of it and mod/delay/reverb in the effects loop

They have slight differences in volume and eq as Front integrates the external preamp and rear simply uses the power amp section. Other than that, they are pretty much the same.
