Saalumarada Thimmakka, a 107-year-old environmentalist who has received no formal education at all has planted over 8000 trees in her lifetime. Most widely known as the ‘Tree Mother’ from India, she started this journey of nurturing plants with her husband as an escape from the social stigma of not being able to have children of their own. In an India where people find it more essential to nurture industries rather than the life-giving green cover we require to simply breathe, is it really unreasonable to be on the lookout for more such Thimmakkas to help us Safeguard our Planet?
