Tornekos chapter is so rediculously broken. You can sit there and get 99 of everything so when you get him in chapter 5 youd have a boat load of money for the rest of the game. One of the best ways to do it is by waiting for a seller to sell a cautery sword at the clerk menu, buying 99 from your boss and filling your inventory, and astreas abascus i think they are called (its been awhile since ive played) you could buy 99 of those in endor and iron armor etc.
@@Sephyroth97 I know that but when you think about it, a lot of people say that which makes a newcomer to the Dragon Quest series drifts away from this enhanced remake (no party chat) or the original version (low quality graphics nowadays for some and can't control your characters when you all team up together) because of their opinions so I say the DS and the NES version are both equal.
I'd say a lot of the character personalities are inferred within their own respective chapters. I think Dragon Quest IV is decent but I really don't get why it was so popular and well liked. The story is very basic, heroes unite to save the world but that's really it. There's no in-between. Dragon Warrior VII offered more. Still, a decent game that I will complete one day.
@@rvd_boys122 I did watch the video but I don't have to say I love the game and agree with the review. How I feel about the game is my own opinion. Yes DQ7 was a drag but at least the characters interacted more then they did in IV. I completed IV the other week and yes I can see why some may like it.
I'm one of those weirdos who played the NES version, and it was my second or third JRPG (after Pokemon). While I playing the remake is much better, there are few things about NES version (I'll use the NES version names): 1. The limitations of Sprits meant you need to imagine what would the character be like, and that interpretation would always be better in your head. My interpretation of Taloon was more or less like in the remake, however Alena I thought from the NES version was much different. Given how strong she was, my interpretation was actually much closer to the Female HERO character(though a little ore tomboy-ish), than the cutesy one in the remake. 2. Non-controllable party members. This is a point of contention, but I thought that brought out their personalities even more. Alena was quite aggressive (esp. with the Flame sword), Ragnr was a balanced knight/tank, Chris was very defensive, Brey wasn't that good in combat(since he's kind of old), but very useful in other stuff, Mara was an insane mage, shooting spells left in right, while Nara was equivalent to Overwatch's Mercy, always on support. Oh and Taloon, oh boy. Could use any item in the inventory (not even equipped), and did random things in battle, like calling other merchants to beat up the enemies, or tell a joke so the thenemy laughs and skips a turn. Granted from a practical standpoint, it harms the pacing and combat, but the AI members told so much through their actions. I always remember this game for those moments. Never completed the game, as I'm stuck at Keelon, and I have to grind a LOT to defeat him. I gave up.
In all honesty, I am so surprised to hear that alot of people rank this as the best Dragon Quest game. My order ranks as follow: 1. Dragon Quest XI, 2. Dragon Quest V and 3 Dragon Quest VIII
Nothing wrong with that. It doesn't matter which is better. They're all good. For me, the best ones are 4, 5, 8 & 11. 3 & 9 are pretty good. 7 isn't bad. 6 is ok. U get the rest.
+Adam McDermott Ahaha, only the ones that I can get for the DS in the States! I take my 3DS to a lot of places, so having a physical copy with me wherever I go helps me get the videos done faster. I don't have to stop playing when I'm not home so I can beat the game faster, I can write my script sooner, and beating the game a second time is way faster once I know where I'm going, so I can keep my footage to as small amount as possible! Plus I REALLY like these games....I also don't have a capture card for DS or the 3DS. So I have to emulate footage.
I have the mobile version of this game (Chose that one over emulating the DS version cause it brought back the cut-out party chat system (And I heard the fan-patch that adds them back to the DS version crashes sometimes, so hopefully that wasn't a mistake. Lol)). I need to get around to playing this at some point (Well, beyond Ch. 2). :P
Best Dragon Quest game, story, and music ever made. And it was made for NES which is nuts considering how far ahead of it’s time it was. Would make a sick live action HBO series if they modernized it and got rid of some of the silly clothing like Alena’s outfit and Ragnar’s armor. But alas, I dream.
A mini-series with two or three episodes dedicated to each character, with the last three or four of the whole group doing their thing. Oh man I'd love that!
How can you consider this a retrospective when youre playing remakes? Im entirely down for saying the remakes are better, But this aint a retrospective. You straight up bash the games that came before it, and youre not studying WHY these games were good in their timeframe.
I honestly didn't liked this game. After playing dqV and dqViii, it was pretty annoying that the game just takes away your progression in every chapter. I was really frustrated for maxing one character and then been forced to start from cero but with another one.
In the remakes, it's Aamon in the extra chapter they added, but when making the video I wanted to make sure I was talking about the original game changes and features since this is a retrospective about the series's development. That's why you'll notice that in the rest of the series, I try my best not to focus on content the remakes added unless I'm explicit about it.
It's honestly kind of strange the way you have these reviews set up. You're playing the remakes but are basing the reviews on the original games and how they developed off of each other. That doesn't really work when you're looking at the remakes, which were made WAY after the originals and are chock full of new stuff thrown in from the newer releases.
I’m playing through the series on my mobile and I just got to four. So disappointed in this remake! Whereas 1-3 have the same graphics as the snes remakes this one has those shitty DS poly’s. I’m sorry, it just hasn’t aged as well as nice clean sprites. So much more personality.

@@GCVazquez that would be incredible, there are so many games they could potentially remake and I’d buy them all lol. Hopefully they remake IX at some point. Great video btw
Thanks for your reviews I finished all 4 nes Dragon Quest games I do hope that more people would play this games by there order release it really teaches you a lot of things and it makes you learn how to play other rpg games easier. ✌️👍
Man I must be insane I remember my final hour count being super high. I did not regard this as a short game.
I think Dragon Quest IV is decent but I really don't get why it was so popular and well liked. The story is very basic, heroes unite to save the world but that's really it. There's no in-between. Dragon Warrior VII offered more.
Still, a decent game that I will complete one day.
Didn't you listen and watch the video? Also dragon quest vii was a drag and has lame characters
@@rvd_boys122 I did watch the video but I don't have to say I love the game and agree with the review. How I feel about the game is my own opinion.
Yes DQ7 was a drag but at least the characters interacted more then they did in IV. I completed IV the other week and yes I can see why some may like it.
9:20 mind blowing.
The original had a game genie code to control the whole party. Final boss was great even in original.
"Hazzah!......I have found it."
I'm one of those weirdos who played the NES version, and it was my second or third JRPG (after Pokemon).
While I playing the remake is much better, there are few things about NES version (I'll use the NES version names):
Well just wait there's a randomizer for the first 4 games that make things way more interesting.
...go on?
Well you can get programs that'll pretty much randomize whatever you want
Wait, you are playing through each of these twice?!
Interesting insight. Thank you.
Healie sounds allot like healijah from dq 11!!
DS. 8/10
I'm not sure why you spoiled the final boss.
I tried to play this, I really tried. But yeah it lost my interest quickly especially following IV and V
Please make the tshirt real
I loved 11, 5, 7, 8 and 9. I didn't like this game.
I honestly didn't liked this game. After playing dqV and dqViii, it was pretty annoying that the game just takes away your progression in every chapter. I was really frustrated for maxing one character and then been forced to start from cero but with another one.
Psaro is not the final boss...
@@GCVazquez You fight Aamon in Diabolical hall. If you use the mod rod, you can speak to the monsters guarding the castle without fighting them.
Thanks for spoiling the final boss
30 years later
@@RW77777777 it was sarcasm lol. A bit ironic that you’re spending to my comment about a year too late, don’t you think 😂
Worst dq out of 4 5 6
Gamer's Survival Guide it was best 8 bit rpg
@@peterkwan987 tis wasnt
How come?
this guy's looking for a beatdown
5 & 6 weren't re-released until 20 years later
anyone who played 4 would know how long we had to wait before getting 5
who's gonna compare them?!?!
