“You meet all the requirement to host organized play for Disney Lorcana but we are not accepting new applications right now…” This is the message that we got after they made us go through the application process, asking for this and that. This basically killed interest within our community.
Lorcana taps into something deep within adults while still allowing kids to collect, play, and otherwise enjoy the game. The few oversights from the first two releases can be easily fixed but even still it proves to be a success.
If another reprint will show up before the end of the year then the prices will definitely take another hit BUT this is good. Those who want to get in on it will get a chance at an affordable price. 2024 has no guarantees, if Ravensburger is smart, they will not print the first two sets to oblivion in order to keep the interest in the newer sets really high. 4 sets per year is EFFING too much and this is not pokemon so it's still a player's game.
Honestly, as a MTG player for almost 15 years- locally here (Tampa FL) I have never in my life seen anything close to the ravenous hype and vast number of players coming out to play at multiple LGS. Two of my LGS have completely replaced FNM with Friday night Lorcana. Magic has literally been relegated to people scheduling when to come at the shop to play with one or two other people. It’s literally being played here as much as Star Wars X-wing & Armada. I never thought I would see the day. Lorcana is not going anywhere.
@@HometownTcg will other tcgs be added? I'm an one piece player and having access to this chart would help pricing so much in my opinion and in general they look great. Good job man!
Imho, the game isn't going to take off if they continue to have the supply issues with the player base. Every comic & game store gets very little stock and they double their prices and still sell out to people who want to hoard boxes in their closets as investments. Most game store employees in my area are very open in talking about how they go to Target every day to see if they have any, then buy all of it and resell online if they do. To directly quote the lgs employee that was talking about the new supply last Wednesday evening "I've been flipping them for $180-220 within the same day when I find them" I'd love to try the game with my daughters (we're the target market), but at $10 per pack (max 2-3 pack limit if you can even find them), there doesn't seem to be much reason in trying. The 3 game stores in my area don't have anybody that seem to play the game, and they know most buyers are immediately putting it in a plastic hardshell container in a closet The unfortunate part is that if Disney is only looking at sales data and not actual play data, they'll think nothing but success, but then a few years down the line when nobody plays the game, and the investor buyers don't have anybody to sell to, the entire demand dries up and the game dies. They need to figure out how to get packs into the hands of people that want to play the game, and not bedroom closet speculators.
I don’t mean to be rude or dismissive, but you need to find a better LGS if possible. I would never shop at a store that looks to up their prices that much. I want my local LGS store to thrive, that’s why I continually shop there but what I won’t support is a price gouging weasel. There are a few stores like that in my area but I am lucky enough to have a great store locally that I go to where the owner really understands the market and is smart enough to understand that quantity is the most important factor for their business. And he sells a lot of product because of that thinking. In my opinion, Disney/Ravensburger is handling this the right way by controlling the amount of product out there, unlike WOTC. Of course there has been hiccups, but there plan seems legit. Here’s hoping that you can score some of this product if you want it this Friday! Good luck!
@@Zatoichiisimmortal35 I don't disagree that there are better LGS out there. The bigger point that I mean to make it that we all recognize that a large portion of the boxes sold are being put in closet shelves instead of being opened and played with, which doesn't help the company build an actual playerbase
I mean price crash from Lorcana would mean the opposite of hype dying down, it would mean hype picking up - because it means that players can actually get their hands on the product and scalpers can't buy out the entire stock like they did with chapter 1. Also November is NOT the release month of Rise of the Floodborn. December is! Rise of the Floodborn as of me writing this comment doesn't release until tomorrow. What we are seeing in circulation right now are the LSG only cards that were given to them early. So assuming that people didn't manage to pre-order all of the cards that were printed, starting tomorrow the cards will become available at the big retailers
I think people are ridiculous with complaining. Some just want it to fail because it's Disney. I think they're doing great. I have no issues. I've only played the Sapphire/steel combo. I'm just trying to get real good with it. Especially with the new series. Many I play against like to switch combos. That's not my thing plus it makes the game much more expensive. Now I've been slowly blinging out my playing deck with some foils. If your LGS is selling packs for too much, tell them and let them know you'll just buy singles online. Some LGSs are great some aren't. If they're overcharging dont buy it. Also, I hope all the people complaining call into work Friday and go check your local retail stores in the morning. Wake up real early and check Target and then check your Best Buy. Maybe Walmart the night before. Going to have to make some sacrifices to get this product. Especially during the Holiday season.
I’m still not the in the hype at all as it still not available at a reasonable price. Playing with the 3 original starter decks I got for my daughter. I can’t afford to pay 400$+ for basic set boxes or 250 for the newest expansion. Still huge availability issues imo
If you can't pay $223 (TCGplayer) for a booster box of the first chapter. You can't pay $159. That's a $64 difference. Your best bet is just to buy singles and stick to two colors to play.
Well in Canada the prices are not the same. 250 us with shipping import and exchange rate brings that box to 350 - 400$. I want to pay msrp. The only reason they are not is because Ravens Berger can’t print to meet supply. Also its not a question of can I pay that price or no but rather do I want to pay those prices for a game that I play with my kids!
Locally, Lorcana is exploding in popularity. Product price and availability came down a bit for ROTF and that’s brought in a ton of new people. I expect this trend to continue because it’s an excellent collectible and a very fun game I personally don’t mind that Lorcana costs a lot because the cards are worth a lot. They hold their value fairly well. That said I also don’t mind if prices fall and stabilize because I want the game to be the biggest it can be When the organized play circuit gets announced in January, things will only get bigger from there :D the future is so bright for this game
as someone who has been collecting different TCgs for the past 30 yrs, I see this as nothing more than a speculative bubble. its gonna take at least a few sets to see wether to see if this game really has lasting longevity or not. if the game is terrible long term, the collectors market will not survive.
Do you think the MSRP is a bit high though? Plus the fact that you don’t get any extra value for buying an entire box or even a case? It seems RB is using the Disney IP to demand a higher price point because they know the built in fan base will spend the money.
honestly, how do you play the game if you can't even find a pack to open... price is way too overprice for some regular peeps. If the target age is youth, then. Good luck trying get your parents to spend money on you.
Selling them the same amount also means it isn't showing growth which is something to keep an eye on, especially once the free tendies flippers go away. From a gameplay perspective, Lorcana is a simpler, less interesting spin-off of Keyforge.
Disney has so much to offer, wait til they get to your favorite character. Pull in various artist and ideas. I feel this TCG will improve and will stand the test of time. Disney has already done that time and time again. This is the Pokemon 1st edition and so many are going to miss out. There is plenty space for Disney to work with.
My thing is ravens burger should have delayed the release of floodborne. There’s a real feelsbad when people can’t even get a single card of the first set an now they already have a 2nd set to try a collect.
It may take until the 3rd or 4th set next year for Ravensberger to iron out their supply drought. In the mean time, focus on buying singles/playsets of cards. Outside of a few bombs most cards are under $1 on tcgplayer. Budget decks can be built that are more than viable at League or at the kitchen table so don't be discouraged by the prices of sealed product. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, put that $250 into a t1 deck and full send. Store League play is steady, and official comp play is going to ramp up soon. The hype train just left the station imo.
I find building MTG Commander decks much more satisfying than Lorcana, although I was quite happy to purchase 3 Tinker Bell Giant Fairies at $10 each just recently and 2 Kuzcos at $4.95 each. So, yes. Prices are crashing :) Helps ROTF just released.
Most people with comments like yours are lying to themselves. The fact that there is no supply keeps you interested. You want what you can't have. Proof? I really love this game I’ve never been THIS involved with a tcg before going to locals and meeting and playing against new people have been so fun

Glad you are finding such joy with Lorcana!

Love these cards and the game itself. Definitely has staying power and Interest. We love it!!
