I've been at this a while, and I've seen some do and some don't. I rarely ever reach for a trimmed brush anymore because they don't track as well or carry as much paint, but I do like to keep a couple in my kit. I have met some great stripers over the years, and many cut thier brushes if it suited the style they were using.
This is the single nicest comment board on youtube. I also enjoyed the video. I have a lotta love for Typography, but afraid I'd never be able to learn how to do pinstripping and definitely not lettering, but it's super interesting to me.
Just save yourself some time and just buy a Kafka brush and you won't need to trim it. His come ready to use and they are prefect! I started with Mack brushes, but since I got a few Kafka brushes, the Macks don't get used much except for long lines maybe.
Yeah..as said here below. Could you show the actual trimming. So in other words,if I understand this correctly, you keep the lenghth, the thickness but reduced the hight of the brush by cutting in a bit from the top and bottom of the brush?? (well, that maybe makes the brush a bit thinner though)
There probably soaked in oil right now( brush oil, mineral oil or something similar) you can use the thinner got the paint to clean the brush out. Depending on what type of paint your using
Hey man I just bought a few brushes. on is a touch up brush I believe. On the brush handle it self it says 2 mack. Im guessing thats the size. On the page itself it has a 00 highlighted. Any idea what I got? same for my dagger brushes. Both say 3 mack, but on packing 1 is highlighted. Any help would be cool. thanks.
im just starting to pinstripe. i have been around paint my whole life and just want to challenge myself. what kind of brushes would you recommend for a starter like me and the must have brushes?
Sr....its possible...that you send or make a video about...how to make a dagger brush....because in my country...chile...we dont have these kind of linners....please....thanks for up this video.....bye....!!!
There's no point to trimming anything other than the tip of the brush if you do you take all the point of even learning this trade away. If you have to cut your brush in half to make a turn then it means you need to practice more otherwise don't waste your money on new brushes just to cut them up just find them in the trash at car shows
Throw them Mack brushes away and get some Kafka stiping brushes. They are far superior and handle so much better than the old Macks I used to use. Macks do straight lines alright, but when it comes to scrolls and tapered curved lines, you can do it so much better with a Kafka brush. Once you try one, you'll never go back to Mack.
Hi , I like your trimming video, thank you for posting it. I have just picked up a set of mack sword brushes and other supplies . I have a video from WIZARD'S Pinstriping Basics. ...10,000 stroke method. So I like the information supplied on the video and I like the practice scheme BUT I want to see and get explained first off how to hold the brush...I will find my own feel for the brush but I'm no Jimi Hendrix and can't re-invent holding the brush. You would have to stop and focus on what you do automatically in order to explain i would think.
Just got some of these in the mail and this was super helpful! Never been able to find a good explanation on this before.
Really good instruction is rare, but you are providing it. Thanks! I'll be watching and hopefully learning.
Mack makes a 3010 dagger which is tapered on both sides . The wrap is still blue but it’s a dagger not a sword.

razor, or exacto work equally well, just be sure to use a brand new one, so it's as sharp as possible.

Mack brushes are great! You can order them online on our website: www.artistsupplysource.com/brand/231/mack-brush/
Most pros do not cut brushes.
