    OK....Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, Nespresso sold it's early coffee maker called the D300. This thing has been in my garage for easily 8 years; needing to be descaled. In 5 minutes I had this thing up and running using your descaling techniques. Thanks.

    I have the same machine as your video. In April 2018 another unit as my first wore out after about 5 years (at least 2,500 large cappuccinos).
    I had always used either the Delonghi Ecodecalk ($6 per clean) or Nespresso Descaling Kit ($8 per clean). After watching your video today, I went and bought a 2 litre bottle of white vinegar for $1.20 and made up a 50/50 mix (approx. $0.30 per clean) with success. Thanks champ!
    PS. If anyone reading this is also looking for a viable alternative to the Nespresso capsules, try the L'or range. They use an aluminium capsule and work just as well as the Nespresso range, unlike all those plastic aftermarket ones which can jam or get too much bypass leakage. Woolworths & Coles stock them, so no need for a trip to the Nespresso store or wait for a mail order to arrive.

      That’s the best reply! That’s the exact scenario I’m trying to get across. And also we use Lor caps, Profondo (lungo), Papua New Guinea, sontuoso are some of our favs. Thank you for validating this with your reply.

      @@ThatCarChannelOfficial ~ The L'or Ristretto is my favourite. With Oro Sublime and Supremo for the odd change. Great coffee. Every bit as good as the Nespresso pods. Plus they always seem to be on 25% discount every 4-5 weeks, so I buy up then. At 45¢ a pod, you can't go wrong.

    I was told by nespresso not to use vinegar because it doesn’t break the scale down enough, it leaves it it bigger chunks and can clog up the hoses over time. You don’t have to use their decaying solution but use one because it breaks the scale down into tiny chunks to pass through the tubes in the machine. Vinegar is a good alternative for a drip coffee maker.

      I tend to agree, something that is a bit stronger would be better. Having said that I haven’t ever had a problem with mine and it’s 7 years old and gets used at least half a dozen times per day - everyday.

    Fantastic! I’ve just cleaned my Nespresso machine for the first time in years, 50:50 water and vinegar. Dam it stinks!

    • @ThatCarChannelOfficial
      @ThatCarChannelOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      You flushed through repeatedly with clean water afterwards yes? It shouldn’t smell like anything but warm vinegar.. hardly a repulsive smell?

    What if the descale light keeps flashing ?

  • @mary.a8551

    I am having trouble and I manage to got here I bought the nespresso delonghi descaling kit I’ve done it twice now. Used both sachets and still light is still flashing on the machine. I will give this a try

    • @ThatCarChannelOfficial
      @ThatCarChannelOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Mary, just to clarify - with the attachment piece inserted into the machine ready to de-scale, the button will flash orange. It will flash orange regardless if you have cleaned it or not. Disconnect that attachment as if you are ready to make a normal coffee again and the light should be normal white. The solid orange light in normal operation signals that you need to descale it. Let me know if you still have problems after removing the de-scale attachment and I’ll see if I can help troubleshoot further :)

      Mary. A my light was still flashing after descaling was complete. I started over (using vinegar) and during the rinse time, I kept adding more water into the container and the light stopped flashing. I used at least two full containers during rinse time. It worked and thank you to the author for the vinegar idea.

      @@angiepin916 how did you add more water? Just pouring more in while it was going?

    • @angiepin916
      @angiepin916 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mailen yes, while the machine was rinsing I kept pouring clear water in the container, as soon as the container emptied the rinsing stopped. I used 2 containers of clear water just to rinse after using vinegar.

    • @ThatCarChannelOfficial

      very odd, so you have put the piece in to get into cleaning mode, descaled, flushed and pulled the piece back out ready to make a coffee and it's still flashing orange?

    Did your coffee taste bad after descaled it with vinegar?

    • @ThatCarChannelOfficial
      @ThatCarChannelOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all - you flush it a few time with just plain water - there is no vinegar left!

  • @DirtyHarry000

    Problem is that vinegar damages rubber seals and can leave a smell and taste! Don't do it sorry...

    • @ThatCarChannelOfficial
      @ThatCarChannelOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Acetic acid in normal vinegar is quite weak 5-8%.. keep that in mind when looking at this chart vs lactic acid, now I don’t know weather or not it is ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ as it passes through the seals as there is a different rating for Lactic acid which is the primary acid in the Nespresso cleaner. Vinegar should be perfectly safe In the infrequent uses that you clean it... will it last 10 years running nothing but acetic acid, no probably not, but then again I don’t know what type of material is used in the seals, here is a list of common o-ring material and chemical resistance.

      As for taste, like you would with the Nespresso cleaner, flush the thing with plain water many many times! I can tell you now the Nespresso stuff tastes
      Worse than vinegar 😂
