None of these things matter anymore. The BBC are under financial influence from China and turned their series into a hyperwoke garbagefest. They destroyed their entire marketable canon, a literal spreadsheet of marketable elements, to impose some ridiculous canon-breaking retcon. They don't understand that the show is the core product. Turning a series and tradition into a bigger multimedia franchise simply doesn't work if you neglect and abuse the core original product and it's fans. Doctor Who has made the same mistake Trek and Wars have made and sacrificed unique plot elements that were known sellers simply in furtherance of their cultish elitist ideology. Now you have a brand in shambles, desperately pushing the older stuff in ancillary materials without a strong core show to support it, a core show that seems determined to destroy the rest of it's media potential by entirely retconning things to satisfy the whims of some pissy cocktail party dwellers. How is anyone expected to care about the main character anymore? Remember, the core nature of Doctor Who is that it's a serial adventure. Without a strong canon, not only do you lose the entire history of marketable elements and the impetus for an audience to CARE about those elements, you also lose the idea of Doctor Who that this is meant to be the same person. You can believe that Davison and Tennant are somehow the same man with the same experiences, and you can empathize. The entire Chibnall era has been a creative misfire, the result of social pressure by uninformed insular political elitists. There have been so many times I've wanted to purchase Big Finish, to check out cool stories set within the canon like Susan's War and The Diary of River Song, but every time I want to I am reminded that there is literally no reason to care about anything that happens in any of these stories, since everything is rendered moot by Chibnall's cheap and lazy retcon. Remember. The show is the core brand element. Without a strong core, sales dissipate across the whole board. Same with Star Wars, their core element was the trilogy films following the Skywalker saga. They destroyed their core product with Episode 7,8 and 9 resulting in dead sales for their entire range of ancillary media. Everyone is so quick to overtake shows and turn them into attempted multimedia universes and vehicles for propaganda that they don't care to understand why it's popular in the first place.
I understand your view here, I got into dr who around 2013 when peter just became the Doctor, but I started watching tennant first. Regarding the the series since jodie, it's crap. I don't treat it as canon. I just watch the classic era, read the novels, comics, watch doctor's 9-12, and listen to big finish. I won't let a idiot director ruin something that I've enjoyed.
@@nimblenavigator9520 yeah but Blake's 7 and Adam Adamant Lives! don't currently have a TV show running and yet they're still going strong on audio, if Doctor Who gets cancelled again it'll survive in other forms.
