      Yes, 3 people! In '03, it was Takeshi Ohtani (bass & rhythm gt., vocals), Atsuo Mizuno (percussion), & Wata (lead gt. and tape delays).
      Nagata left in '96 (didn't want to travel), and Atsuo took over the percussion. Michio Kurihara joined in '07 to cover for Wata while she was out in '08, and toured with them until '13.

    Worth mentioning... This is the end of an era. Back in '03, the Liquid Room, which was fairly large for a live-house, was still in the rather seedy Kabukicho district of Shinjuku. If I recall correctly, it was on the seventh floor of the HUMAX building at the Cine City Square (presently something of a hangout for homeless teens). Unless you knew somebody who'd let you onto the small elevator, getting up to the seventh-floor meant navigating several narrow flights of stairs. But the venue tended to bring in some really good bands, including some from overseas. Japanese Boris audiences at that time tended to be from the psychedelic crowd, totally absorbed into the music. The live-house closed in '04, relocating to Ebisu as a rather more "upscale" venue.

      Wata has commented that this is her personal favorite work over the years. I have to agree, placing it among just a few all time favorite pieces of music from anyone... ever. They played some version of this during their July '18 Roskilde Festival performance in the Netherlands. Hoping that might translate to a tour. d(^_^)

      It's not pointless at all. You have to understand some musical nuances and general atmosphere of it. I could explain if you want, but i don't think it'll make it better sounding for you anyways. It's just not pointless.

    What's hard to appreciate from these videos is that the sound is cranked up to 12. It's so loud it causes your soul to vibrate. I've seen them 3 times live and each time I've been literally half deaf for the rest of the evening. They overwhelm you with sound. It's near orgasmic.

    • @lightnesstraveling
      @lightnesstraveling 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The Liquid Room relocated to Ebisu not long after this. The old place in the upstairs of a building in Kabukicho was a big venue for Boris (500 people?), but still a cramped and very seedy "live house" environment. Loud bands (like Boris) tended to play during the day, then DJ/Techo/Rave after dark. I think the old location is a wrestling venue now.

    Lyrics - Feedbacker Part III
    重なった逃げ水の風景
    やわらかな不確かなカタチを映して
    ただそこにいるここにいる
    選びを忘れた牙の季節を撃て
    飛び散る粒を集め世界になる
    無数の世界は
    無辺に生きる
    ---
    Many layers of scenes, reflected in the mirage
    They stay here, a blurred shade
    Just stay here
    Must shoot at the season of the fangs
    That has forgotten to make a decision
    Fragments have come together to become me
    Millions of me
    Million ways of living

    this is seriously one of the best songs i’ve ever heard from any artist. do they still play this or Flood live? i have yet to see them and i missed their last US tour, i must see this band atleast once.
    edit: i saw them 2 days ago with melvin’s and i was right at the stage literally like 10 feet from watas double stack, it was amazing. they did play all of heavy rocks and ended with the cover of boris haha which was sick. while i do love heavy rocks and the concert was amazing, i still prefer the dronier side of boris, and would love to hear some next time they come near me, god i love this band.

    • @lightnesstraveling
      @lightnesstraveling 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      According to Wata, tune an ’86 Gibson Les Paul Custom down to "A", maybe play it with an eBow, then send it through a vintage Japanese Big Muff knockoff, ZVex Super Duper, Dwarfcraft Shiva, MASF Wata Fuzz, Jim Dunlop Crybaby, Roland RE-150 "Space Echo", and into a vintage Matamp GT120 (or Orange OR120) with the volume high enough to distort the signal through the power tubes.
