They went hard from the get-go - Amplifier Worship is wild. So prolific and yet so consistently excellent. Amplifier Worship, Flood, Heavy Rocks, Akuma no uta, Feedbacker, Dronevil and Pink are their first 7 albums in order. Let that sink in.
Dont really like there merzbow collaborations dont like harsh noise but i like all there other stuff like it fucking groves in the creppiest way possible
One thing to keep in mind when listening to Boris is that they are composed with the intention of being played deafeningly loud. It's a surreal experience when the air around you carries so much energy that you can feel your clothes vibrate haha
Thank you for the honest reaction, I think Flood by Boris is much more in your ballhouse then this album. Flood is genuinely beautiful while this is so torturous that it forces you to see beauty within it. Im not saying the album is bad its just not something to listen to everyday
Seconding this. Flood would have been a better album to get into Boris. Or maybe akuma no uta. But flood is really beautiful all the way through and meditative in the end.
My fav Boris too, probably 11/10 if that make sense, but I'm worried about him taking the 4th move, cause it might be too boring for him, unless he really resonates with the theme or the concept of "Flood".
if you wanna get into more Metal/Heavier albums I recommend Sunbather by Deafheaven, it's a blackgaze album (black metal combined with shoegaze) you might not be a huge fan of the vocals but they compliment the instrumentals and it's an overall great album.
This is basically the same reaction i had first time listening to this album lmao, definetely a crazy first listen. If you do more Boris then flood has to be next
When I saw Feedbacker come up I turned to my partner and said "Oh boy, he's going to be confounded by this one." It seems like I wasn't wrong! Congratulations on making it all the way through, though, I think patience is the path to expanded tastes. You may find that stuff like this grows on you as you explore more abstract and less song-focused styles of music. Regarding my continual recommendation of Yellow Swans - Going Places - you might not be ready for that sort of thing yet, and find yourself similarly bored, confused, or annoyed with an album like that. But if you find yourself wanting to plunge deeper into this obscure and initially confusing style of music, then by all means, check that one out in the near future.
I love Boris, love the reaction. They started as a drone metal band and this is kind of a hard entry point into a very varied discography, Pink maybe a bit more straightforward but shows more of the bands range. Well done for getting through it.
Oh fuck, unexpected. Feedbacker is definitely an assault on the senses, props to you for deep-diving into Boris. This album is one of several that really have to be taken more as a single piece split into several movements - because of that, if I listen to Feedbacker I'm listening to the whole album or not at all. Boris is tone porn. Brutal, heavy, yet completely psychedelic in spirit, trance-inducing, meditative. Wata on the guitar, one of the great unspoken geniuses, she's a guitar goddess in my book.
I was aware of Boris but I had never heard this album, after watching this video I'm putting all these songs in my playlist, This is my kinda vibe. Good video and good reaction!
definitely an unpredictable pick for the first metal album to listen to in this channel, but I think that's very in line with this channel. It's always these unpredictable and eclectic picks that make me excited for every new video (so for unpredictable and eclectic, I recommend This Heat - Deceit(again), but for an easier listen and *very* different mood, I recommend The Magnolia Electric Co. - s/t)
One of the best bands in the world and feedbacker isn’t even their best release but one of many PEAK albums, I recommend checking out les rallizes denudes’ 77 live if you’re willing to listen to another long noise filled Japanese record, only difference is les rallizes were doing it 30 years prior.
Funny thing, I got this on vinyl as a total blind buy from a friend and I listened to it for the first time before watching your review lmao. This shit got me thinking about the heat death of the universe ngl. If you like Boris you need to check out ‘77 Live by Les Rallizes Dénudés, it’s on the same level of Japanese noise rock long-song epic but somehow EVEN LOUDER and as early as 1977. Mind blowing stuff!
It's may be weird, but i feel like I'm burning alive while listening to this album. I don't how to describe it in details, but track 4 feels like absolute agony of the last moments of life, and the end kinda feels like the moment millisecond away from your brain completely dying without feeling pain (This sounds really dumb when I'm reading to it now but whatever)
At 7:22 that do be me with japanese music. The world of japanese music is super interesting. Please check out Air Nini by Hakushi Hasegawa, it's so unique, hectic, complex, pretty and so on. It's great fun. It's a mix of jazz, breakcore, j-pop and ofc it's unique element that i can't put a label on and I'm trying. Also check out Flood by Boris too bc that ahit gets transcendental
I think Boris are one of those bands that get way, way better when you're into a similar sorta niche end of music as them. As somebody who's into hearing/playing guitar noise stuff, not only do they have some of the most impossibly great tone-worship of any band out there (which would be good enough for me anyways), they back it up with super ambitious concepts and genre switches and songwriting. They're absolutely one-of-a-kind, but they're definitely not for everybody. Try listening to Pink. It's my fav of theirs, and it's a way more accessible and diverse collection of all the things they're good at.
At this point you have already covered quite a lot of my favorite albums, but one I would absolutely love for you to check out is Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins.
also, i forgot to mention some recommendations which i think you might enjoy: Masayoshi Takanaka - All of me (its like a compilation album with his best songs) Death Grips - Ex Military Death Grips - Government Plates As always, much love and if you know any of these albums id appreciate if you tell me which ones you alr know, so i can stop requesting something you already know.
hearing you say "I'm gonna get a headache" or "my ears are going through a lot right you" in part 2 & 3 when i know what will happen in part 4 is so funny
13:19 on that note make sure you check out live videos by Boris either for a reaction or otherwise you haven’t really experienced Boris until you’ve witnessed a live show even just on video or a love album. There’s a reason they release so many live versions of their music
I know ive probably already written this in your comment section but you need to listen to this incredible album: Jim O'rourke - Live at Japan 2002. No spoilers but one of the songs (i wonder which one) is comparable to Fishmans Long Season (live) in terms of being the best song ever.
Other album recommendations: Mazzy star - among my swan Hope Sandoval and the warm inventions- Bavarian fruit bread (It’s the drummer from my bloody valentine and hope, the singer from mazzy star) Cocteau twins - four calendar cafe Cocteau twins - heaven or Las Vegas Lamp - ランプ幻想 (Lamp Gensō) Nina Simone - Baltimore I love you’re content so much 🫶🫶
And no you wont inflict hearing lost just make sure not to do it repedatly and its ok but still jesus christ i dont know how my ear feels like its comfortable but its weird felling dosent hurt dosent feel perfect its just facinating
I've listened to this album for over 15 years and after rigorous investigation, I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a sound system in this world powerful enough to play "pt.2" at the correct volume level.
Some metal/hard rock recs Tool - Lateralus Deftones - White Pony Metallica - Master of Puppets Hum - You’d Prefer an Astronaut The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Queens of The Stone Age - Songs For the Deaf
As many others here have said their album flood would is a great next album to listen too. For a completely other genre i would like to reccomend The Knife - Silent Shout, a very acclaimed electronic/synthpop album.
Love the videos! A few recommendations: Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan or White Pony - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)
hey man, alot of people have been mentioning Flood by Boris and i just wanna tell you its not on any streaming services, you’re gonna have to listen to it on TH-cam
Loving your channel and subscribed! Loving your reactions to albums. You give really great, honest, candid reactions. Would love to see your reactions to: "Dragonslayer" by Sunset Rubdown "Shut Up, I Am Dreaming" by Sunset Rubdown "Apologies to the Queen Mary" by Wolf Parade "Fevers and Mirrors" by Bright Eyes "Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground" by Bright Eyes
fun to note jack white, half of the white stripes, is one of Boris' fans to the point he saved flood from a label holding it hostage and reissued it on his label third man records
boris has one of the best discographies in music, so many good albums, flood, feedbacker, pink, akuma no uta and heavy rocks just to name a few
Ampifier worship too!
vein also goes hard
They went hard from the get-go - Amplifier Worship is wild. So prolific and yet so consistently excellent. Amplifier Worship, Flood, Heavy Rocks, Akuma no uta, Feedbacker, Dronevil and Pink are their first 7 albums in order. Let that sink in.
Dont really like there merzbow collaborations dont like harsh noise but i like all there other stuff like it fucking groves in the creppiest way possible
also dont really like vein as its pretty much straight harsh noise
By the way, the lady on the cover is Wata, the lead guitarist for Boris.
damn i hope she is good ant all that reddish liquid is like ketchup
they kilt her
One thing to keep in mind when listening to Boris is that they are composed with the intention of being played deafeningly loud. It's a surreal experience when the air around you carries so much energy that you can feel your clothes vibrate haha
Part 3 is pure eargasm after that long anticipation
I LOVE YOUR PFP
“I’ll get to all the music, even if it kills me” That’s DEDICATION
Suggestion (I bet you’re not gonna guess it this time): Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
real
stop recommending that wack ass album bruh like how do you compare Boris with that hipster bullcrap
I saw them live about 15 years ago. 30 minutes before the end of the show the drummer dived into the audience and never returned.
saw them live couple months ago, LOUDEST shit i've ever heard, it was mindblowing
Thank you for the honest reaction, I think Flood by Boris is much more in your ballhouse then this album. Flood is genuinely beautiful while this is so torturous that it forces you to see beauty within it. Im not saying the album is bad its just not something to listen to everyday

same honestly
YES!! You gotta do flood too at some point
if you wanna get into more Metal/Heavier albums I recommend Sunbather by Deafheaven, it's a blackgaze album (black metal combined with shoegaze) you might not be a huge fan of the vocals but they compliment the instrumentals and it's an overall great album.

"patience is the path to expanded tastes" makes for such a good quote
Opt Out literally melts my mind when I listen to it
I love Boris, love the reaction. They started as a drone metal band and this is kind of a hard entry point into a very varied discography, Pink maybe a bit more straightforward but shows more of the bands range. Well done for getting through it.

Metal moment
I was aware of Boris but I had never heard this album, after watching this video I'm putting all these songs in my playlist, This is my kinda vibe. Good video and good reaction!

Dopethrone by Electric Wizard next? 🙏🙏

goodness gracious yess lrd is soo good
I'd certainly consider Feedbacker to be their best, which ones are better? Pink is as good, so is Akuma no Uta. But better? Don't know
@@smoshbooz rock dream and flood r better
you are now my favourite YT music reviewer, cheers mate
Happy 20th Anniversary to this album.

you gotta react to songs for the deaf or Perfect from now on ‼️
this album right after bloom must have been an crazy experience bro
Giles Corey - Giles Corey. Embrace the sadness 👌 Still loving your work ethic, don't burn out brother 👍
It's may be weird, but i feel like I'm burning alive while listening to this album. i can visualize that now
I recommend Sleeps Holy Mountain by Sleep, if that heavy/doom type of feel interests you.
At 7:22 that do be me with japanese music.

100%. You acclimate to the intensity and the ability to 'let go' to the music, and it becomes transcendental.
Any Shpongle album would be the most fire reaction ever
having a drone metal album as your first metal album is crazy lol
if you're gonna get into more metal you should listen to Death - Symbolic
BRAVE LITTLE ABACUS. MAKE IT HAPPEN

Have you heard Pink or Flood? They're both amazing and beautiful albums by Boris.
And if you listen to pink make sure you listen to the vinyl edition with the extended tracks and better track order!
